Can this be true? US had supplied F-16s to Pakistan under a condition

F-16s have proprietary source codes for the fighters’ weapons systems. Till today, only Turkey has been given US congressional approval to automatically modify the software source codes of the fighters’ weapons systems with national software source codes.

Turkey has become the first nation among 26 who have the F-16s in their inventories, to have the ability to receive information on the F-16 fighters’ software source codes thereby enabling it to replace them with their own software source codes whenever necessary.

In other words, any F-16s weapon systems can be rendered ineffective as and when the Americans like. That sucks, what? :fie:

Turkey has limited access to the IFF module only. The rest of the software is not accessible to Turkey. Only Israel has greater access to some other portions, but even they cannot access the entire software suite.

THERE IS A REASON WHY MOST PAKISTANIS INCLUDING THE USERS,THE PAF...NO MORE LIKE OR WANT AMERICAN DEFENCE HARDWARE...

TOO MANY STRINGS ATTACHED.
So the question is: Why is Pakistan still wanting to buy American equipment? Why can't they fill the gap with Chinese platforms? The answer is simple. It's all about reliability, maintainability, dependability and most of all cutting edge technology. Chinese equipment lacks all these and the Pakistani Armed Forces know it! Never mind the 'higher than the mountains' friendship, which sounds dandy on paper but doesn't mean much in the real world! :P

F-16 was a very old deal which has finally concluded now...
Don't think Pakistan is asking for any more American equipment...

Isn't Pakistan hoping to get some leftover equipment from the ISAF withdrawal from Afghanistan?

According to Wikipedia page regarding killing of Bin Ladin, US had supplied F-16s to Pakistan under a condition that they were kept at a Pakistani military base under 24-hour US surveillance.

Can this be really true ?

Death of Osama bin Laden - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bro its Pakistan and i dont think thats Possible i mean what is the the purpose of an 80 $$million plane if we cant use it in war and okay accept it for a while usa has sealed its components do you thinks we Pakistani are dumbbbbbb look what we did to Suzuki motor Rickshaw :pakistan::pakistan::pakistan:

I dont think they will leave F-16s behind

Not F-16s maybe, but lots of other "equipment" may be up for grabs. This is what you said:

The infatuation for American equipment is still there, not just F-16s, but anything else that might be available.

it's partially true....
it is like that that US agreed to provide PAF with block 52 if they are put on one base which hasnot any chineea fighter nor any chinese person.....
and Pakistan can't fly these out of Pakistan i.e in any exercise....
without US permission....
and these all suggestions were suggested by PAF.....:coffee:

Somebody else may have a better well informed opinion on this,as this isn't my field of interest...
But as far as i know the policy makers have long since drifted away from American Equipment..
Young Pilots i used to talk to in 90s ...who used to fly F-16s without working Ejection seats are now High ranking PAF officers an know very well how Unreliable the USA can be,and the fear of Going down with the plane without being able to eject.

So the claims of the PAF being able to properly maintain the F-16s despite sanctions were not true? Why risk the lives of our precious pilots like that?

My friend its easy to be sarcastic while sat on our chairs...

The planes were flying despite Not a single nut or bolt being provided by USA...
Being a keyboard warrior you are disrespecting and nullifying the Patriotism of the Pilots, the airmen, the embassy staff abroad, the volunteering Expat Pakistanis and Security services...All of whom worked together to keep the spares coming from unlikely sources.

The equipment, just like any other time, would be stolen by the ANA or Police and sold in Black market. A lot of American hardware given to Afghanistan's forces is available in Pakistan especially KPK with prices not even 20% of actual worth. Same thing follows, for sure.

No Sir, you are incorrect in saying that.

I am valuing the precious lives of our trained pilots very highly, that is why I am asking the question.

After all, the claim was that the sanctions did not hurt the readiness and safety of our valiant fighting forces. You mentioned that that might not be true since the pilots were flying without ejection seats, which would expose them to additional risks.

What is the truth? No sarcasm intended.

If we can get the armoured vehicles and other ancillaries at good prices, that would be good.

53 is WSJ caption "Spy, Military Ties Aided bin Laden Raid".
If Wall Street Journal is not authentic than what is?
Weak reference?
My foot.

The weak reference is because of a video which speaks of individual POV not facts-
Cannot be considered as evidence until it has actually shown the tracking devices-
Which it did not-
So Take that foot up your A55- thank you-

If US is giving you something it is taking back a lot of things. thats pure business smokie. They have the best think tanks in the world from different countries and many are Indians
