The controversy surrounding PM Modi's educational qualifications has refused to die down for over a week now. The plot thickened today with both BJP and AAP holding press conferences to aggressively target each other over the issue.

None less than two of the three most powerful persons in the present regime - BJP president Amit Shah and finance minister Arun Jaitley - have put in public domain the degrees of PM Modi. Despite BJP's attempt to put a cap on the building controversy and AAP's penchant for the politics of allegation and sensationalism, there is substance to the latter's suspicion over Modi's degrees.

Addressing a convocation.
There are five anomalies that give credence to the charge that the PM's degrees may be fake:

1. Multiple entries of date of birth

As the storm around Modi's degree started to brew, a prominent newspaper carried similar reports with quotes from unnamed PMO sources and a photo of Modi's MA degree.

The matter would have been put to rest, but for the fact that according to this reported degree, Modi's date of birth is August 29, 1949 as opposed to the officially stated date - September 17, 1950.

This same MA degree was presented today by the BJP. It can't be passed of as a mistake due to carelessness as every entry - the day, month and year - is different. The BJP and Modi have not yet come clean on this aspect of his qualifications.

A copy of the degree.
2. Different name and year of attendance

In Modi's BA marksheet, his name is shown as Narendra Kumar Damodardas Modi, while in Modi's BA and MA degrees, his name reads as "Narendra Damodardas Modi". This discrepancy wouldn't have raised an eyebrow if there was a corresponding change of name affadavit, but no such document has been made public.

Surely, in the interest of transparency and confidence in integrity of holders of public offices we deserve an explanation as to why this mismatch exists.

The tale of mismatches doesn't end here. Even in the year of attending the course, there is discrepancy. While Modi's marksheet shows 1977 as his final year in college, the same is shown as 1978 in what has been presented as his BA degree.

3. Suspicious name of the course

The MA degrees of the PM that have been made public show the specialisation as "Entire Political science".

Now political science is a known discipline, but where does "entire" fit in? This suspicious name adds to the mystery surrounding his degrees. Also, it has been alleged that the college from which he obtained his MA has no political science course. Again, all this may amount to nothing, but like other instances, Modi's silence here is only making things look worse.

4. Where are PM Modi's classmates?

Since Modi is the most prominent public figure in India today, it shouldn't have been difficult to find people who attended the course or took the exam with him. Even while attending normal courses, multiple acquaintances are made in college, but since Modi is a celebrity and the biggest one at that, hordes of batchmates should have come forward to confirm with pride that they attended a course with him.

However, till date, we are yet to come across even one batchmate who can verify Modi's degree claim. This is another puzzling and disconcerting aspect that gives credence to the naysayers.

5. Why is his alma mater hiding information?

For any institute, it is a matter of pride to share that famous personalities have been affiliated with them. This helps the institute gain publicity and improve their image, and thereby help attract better students to strengthen the institution's present and future. This is why Punjab university never grows tired of flaunting its association with former PM Manmohan Singh.

Not only does PU publicise that Manmohan was a gold medalist from PU, it also created a chair in Manmohan Singh's name and now has enlisted him in professorial capacity. So it's surprising that both the institutes where Modi claims to have done his higher studies have been so coy about their association with the PM. Their suspicious secrecy around the whole issue seems to have been at Modi's behest as if they fear to reveal anything that may contradict their boss' (Modi) claim.

Now when nothing from the date of birth to the name to the year of the course is in order, one can't help but feel there is something fishy regarding the whole claim. A prima facie case has been established and the onus now rests on PM Modi to restore the nation's confidence in his credibility. It won't suffice to shoot the messenger and make light of the alleged crime. A fraud is a fraud. The question is not of how educated or not our PM is. The question is whether the nation deserves to be in the know of its PM's educational attainment. Should India be cheated when it comes to such information?

It's said Caeser's wife should be above suspicion, but here Caesar himself is under suspicion.

If the PM can cheat and trick when it comes to his degree, can we guarantee that he won't cheat or commit fraud in other matters? The trust and credibility of the most important public office of the world's largest democracy is sacrosanct. So it's essential that the cloud over Modi's degree is cleared either way, sooner than later.

Also, we can't just wait for him to come out clean. The fourth pillar of democracy - Indian media - deserves to do its job of scrutinising the matter with more vigour and courage than it has displayed so far.

It is inexplicable why the media has not undertaken an independent investigation into the whole affair. Its silence makes one fear that the worst may be true.

massacring muslims is difficult to prove but false claim of degree can be proved... hope somebody files PIL in court.
Why don't you file PIL? Considering how badly you want to get rid of chaddis i thought you wouldn't wait for someone else to do it. Be a man and step up.

Next step, file a defamation case against AAP politicians including Kejriwal and Ashutosh. Kejriwal has already apologized once to Gadkari against the defamation case filed against him, they shouldn't have any problem apologizing again. Shameless creatures.

Narendra Modi's so-called 'fake certificate', Delhi University (DU) came forward today and clarified that the PM's records have been maintained in DU and he cleared his BA exams from the University in 1978. He was awarded the degree in 1979.

DU also said that two different roll number's were allotted to Modi in 1977 and 1978 and his name 'Narendra Kumar Damodar Das Mody', which was seen on a marksheet flashed by AAP leader Ashutosh on TV, is nothing but a spelling mistake.

Moments after Amit Shah flashed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BA and MA degrees at a press conference and demanded an apology from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for raking up a false issue, the AAP hit back, claiming that the degrees displayed by the BJP president were fake.

"PM Narendra Modi's degrees shown by Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley are fake and forged," senior AAP leader Ashutosh had said as he asked how the two degrees have two different names. "The BA degree {shown below} has Narendra Kumar Damodardas Modi while the MA degree says his name is Narendra Damodardas Modi," he said.

Accusing Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of turning a "blatant lie into truth", BJP chief Amit Shah today displayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degrees as his party tried to clear the air around the Prime Minister's educational qualifications.

"We are putting both the degrees of the Prime Minister, the Bachelor of Arts from Delhi University and the MA from Gujarat University in public domain," Shah told in a press conference he addressed with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The BJP on today made public the BA and MA degrees of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought an apology from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for accusing Modi of lying about his educational qualification.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA from Delhi's Babarpur constituency Naresh Gaur on Monday vouched that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stayed with him in 1974 when he came to Delhi to appear for his B.A. first year exams at Delhi University (DU).

"Modi ji stayed with me at the ABVP office at 33, Bungalow Road when he came to appear for his first year B.A. exams. He was an ordinary party worker back then," Gaur, a three-time legislator from Babarpur constituency in north-east Delhi, said.

However, Gaur said it was the only time that he saw Modi appearing for Delhi University exams.

"In 1975, during the Emergency we were arrested and stayed in jail for close to 10 months. I don't know what happened after that," Gaur said.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the press conference held here by BJP chief Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Modi's educational qualifications.

But, said Gaur, he was "sure" that Modi's degree from DU was real.

"I am one thousand percent sure that Modi's degree is real and not fake," he said.

Gaur said that there were spare rooms at the office where party workers from outside Delhi could briefly stay, and that he himself stayed all the time at the office as a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak. Bungalow Road is close to Delhi University.

The Aam Aadmi Party alleged that the degrees of Modi produced by Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley were “forged”, saying there were “glaring discrepancies” in them.

After the Aam Aadmi Party alleged discrepancies in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name on his BA marksheet and that of the MA degree, the vice-chancellor of Gujarat University on Monday said that some difference in names is common. Dr. Mahesh B Patel (officiating VC, Gujarat University) in response to AAP’s allegations said that the university receive thousand of applications for change of names as discrepancies are common.

Patel added that since the marksheet provided by Delhi University mentions his name as Narendra Kumar, the admission was given to him on that basis. “That is why marksheet of 1981 mentions Narendra Kumar, but he wrote Narendra in exam form of 1982,” said Patel.

Earlier in the day, the Aam Aadmi Party alleged that the degrees of Modi produced by Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley were “forged”, saying there were “glaring discrepancies” in them.

AAP leader Ashutosh said Modi’s name does not match in the BA marksheet and that of the MA degree and even claimed that there were discrepancies in the year of passing as well.

“Nakal ke liye bhi akal ki jarurat hai (One needs brains even to copy). The BA marksheet is dated 1978 while the degree is of the year 1979. His name in the BA marksheet is Narendra Kumar Damodardas Modi while in Masters degree, it is Narendra Damoderdas Modi,” said the AAP leader.

He said there were discrepancies in the PM’s name even at the BA level with it being recorded as ‘Narendra Kumar Damodardas Modi’ in one of the marksheets while it was spelt as ‘Narendra Damoderdas Modi’ in the degree certificate.

Even in BA marksheets, another AAP leader Dilip Pandey said, surname is spelt “Modi” in one case while it changes to “Mody” in another.

I wish there were provision for retesting VVIPs in such controversial situations.

Why don't you file PIL? Considering how badly you want to get rid of chaddis i thought you wouldn't wait for someone else to do it. Be a man and step up.
I dont have time, resource or ability to do it. But I will give moral support via pdf to whoever does it. :)
