Can Iran develop a hypersonic weapon?

oh my god why cant you people understand iran is not a super power building a hypersonic weapon is not easy.

Hypersonic missile with a scramjet engine is BEYOND Iranian current capabilities, but hypersonic weapon with a solid fuel engine is within Iranian capabilities.

Iran is not a global superpower, but how many countries in the world can produce a missile like Sayyad 4 or a long range air defense system?- Very Few.

Sayyad 4 itself flies at a hypersonic speed.

Making a solid fuel missile that flies at hypersonic speed and quasi-ballistic trajectory is within Iranian capabilities and it will create an invincible weapon that can target any place in the region without being intercepted.

Iran needs an invincible solid fuel quasi-ballistic missile - a project for the next 7-10 years.

Where is your evidence for this? Logically it makes sense, but I don't think it has even been claimed or revealed for this to be the case...

S-300 missile flies at a speed pf 2100 m/s - mach 7

Sayyad should be comparable

Building a hypersonic missile, based on short-range solid fuel ballistic missiles is possible.
What do you mean it is possible!! Its already there..

Zolfighar and more importantly Dezful are both Hyper-sonic with respective ranges of 700 and 1000 kms.. Old Fateh-110 missiles had a speed of Mach 5 (1.5 km/s) but as it is visible from aerodynamics of Zolfighar and especially Dezul missile, they have much higher speeds.. You could also see this on guidance kit shapes and expendable nose material..

I think Dezful and Zolfighar did already surpassed Iskander-M missile in almost every aspect (range, warhead, speed, detachable warhead, etc)... so if Russia can make an Iskander missile a Kinzhal hyper-sonic missile... Iran already has the vehicle..

48Н6E2 has a speed of 2100m/s and it is mach 7 since Mach speed at 11km height and beyond is 295 m/s

Yes, but these are ballistic missiles that can be intercepted by an anti-ballistic missile defense system due to their ballistic trajectory.

Iran needs truly quasi-ballistic missile that flies at trajectory different from ballistic, but at hypersonic speed and height of 40km and higher

Could be right..
Although this is what is mentioned of this missile:

Mass 3,800 kg (8,400 lb)[4]
Length 7.3 m (24 ft)
Diameter 0.92 m (3 ft 0 in)
Warhead 480–700 kg (1,060–1,540 lb) [5][6]
Engine Single-stage solid propellant
Operational
range

50 km (31 mi)-400–500 km (250–310 mi) for Iskander-M [7][8]
Speed 2,000 m/s (Mach 5.9) Burn-out velocity (hypersonic)[9]

Or hypersonic cruise missile.

More powerful BMs also cannot just be "intercepted" easily, the more powerful they are the more warheads (decoys etc) they can carry, BMD is not proven against MARVs

I have biggest respect for Irans missile engineers, but russian Iskander outclasses everything in the world...
I agree, there is no shame in being less good than the leader of missiles... Especially considering Russia spends magnitudes more on missiles than Iran's entire military budget. Russia is years ahead of even the U.S. with hypersonic tech.

Hypersonic missiles is not realistic for Iran in the next decade at all, but there are other feasible options for Iran that have been mentioned in this thread.

The problem with ballistic missiles is that they fly ballistic trajectory and can be intercepted by anti-ballistic missile defense systems. Hypersonic cruise missiles are INVINCIBLE.

Designing a hypersonic missile with scramjet engine is extremely difficult and even US, Russia and China have problem designing such a missile.

However, Russians went an easy way- they took Iskander short-range ballistic missile and modified it to be a hypersonic cruise missile.

Kinzhal's engine is the same as Iskander's engine, diameter and length is the same as Iskander. With a speed of Mach 10 and a range of 2000km, Kinzhal survives extreme environment for 9 minutes.

While building a scramjet engine hypersonic missile is beyond Iranian capabilities. Building a hypersonic missile, based on short-range solid fuel ballistic missiles is possible.

1) Iran has solid fuel engines: 1.25meter solid fuel engine of Sejjil, or solid fuel engine of Fateh 110.
2) Iran has materials that can survives extreme heat- materials for Khorramshahr missile's warhead and materials for making Sejjil's jet vanes
3) Iran has engineers experienced in designing missiles and guidance system
4) for designing an invincible weapon Iran can invest millions of dollar into necessary infrastructure including wind tunnel for hypersonic speeds.

So, investing hundreds on millions of dollars over the next 7-10 years to turn a solid fuel ballistic missile into a Kinzhal-like invincible missile that can penetrate all air and missile defense systems is a possibility. Iran has all the basic technology and engineers.

Next phase of Iranian ballistic missile evolution:
1) maneuvering warhead
2) quasi-ballistic missile
3) hypersonic cruise missile based on solid fuel engine technology
Yes,that would be the logical next step for the fateh 110 series and its extended range offshoots,to increase its present maximum velocity of mach 3.5 into the low hypersonic.
Now if only iran had something like the mig31 to air launch it from,as I`m not sure if the f14 would really be up to the job.
