The animals were being rustled from Maharashtra state and sold in neighboring Andhra Pradesh, where some communities believe eating donkey meat can increase strength and virility.

Demand for donkeys cannot be met in Andhra Pradesh itself as their numbers have been falling as farmers replace them with machines. So the thieves saw an opportunity.

The gang was selling each donkey for 10,000 rupees ($152), R.R. Sayad, an assistant police inspector, told Reuters.

3,880 kgs substandard meat seized in Lahore, Rawalpindi

Sunday, September 06, 2015- Lahore/Multan/Rawalpindi—At least 3,880 kilograms of substandard meat was seized inthree differentraids at Slaughterhousesin Rawalpindi and Lahore on Saturday. According to information,LivestockDepartment in Rawalpindi assisted by police on Saturday recovered more than 3000kg of poor quality meat from Banni area and detained as many as 14butchers.

The substandard quality meat was recovered when Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Hassan Ranjha along withlivestockdepartment and police raided illegal slaughterhousesat Jamia Masjid Road Bani area of Rawalpindi.

The policeseized fake stamps and registered a case against thesuspectsin Bani police station. Meanwhile,Livestockdepartment on Saturday raided an illegal slaughter house in Shalimar Town’s area of Ghoray Shah in Lahore and confiscated over 800kgs unhealthy and substandard meat. Police arrested at least threesuspectspresent at the scene.

Moreover at least 80 kg more substandard meat was recovered in Makka Colony of Lahore In Multan, locals in Shujabad on Saturday caught twobutchersred-handed while slaughtering a donkey accusing them of planning to sellthe meatfor consumption.

Thesuspectswere handed over tothe policeand shifted to the Sadar Police Station where both thesuspectsrejected the allegations saying that they had slaughteredthe animalto get its hide. Ghulam Yasin and Sufyan said they were to receive Rs25,000 forthe hideand didn’t intend to sellthe meatof donkey. Police have locked up thesuspectsand were carrying out further investigation.—INP

Its better to be a vegetarian in Pakistan rather than eating Donkey meat!

....and mind you... Its not a one off incident. This has been going on in Pakistan for many years! Not just donkey but also dogs, rat kebabs, corpses of animals that have been dead due to poisoning or any other disease.

Aur khao aaloo-GOSHT,daal-GOSHT, palak-GOSHT, shalgam-GOSHT etc..etc...
