Burma riots: What the media isn’t telling you

prothom alo is the number 1 newspaper in Bangladesh! The editor is more powerful than Awami Ministers...... They have no reason to lie... They are anti-jamat and share similar secular ideology with Awamileague! STFU!

The fact it attracts such an impassioned response from a guy with a terrorist as his avatar tells me that it's probably not all that objective.

Ok Racist Burmese,
My avatar represents Keffiyeh

This is Keffiyeh

Keffiyeh is related to Palestine. In case you don't know Palestinians are also fighting against Racist Zionist for their land just like Rohingyas, Kachins!

Traditionally worn by Palestinian farmers, the keffiyeh was worn by Palestinian men of every rank. It became a symbol of Palestinian nationalism during the Arab Revolt of the 1930s.[4][5] Its prominence increased in the 1960s with the beginning of the Palestinian resistance movement and its adoption by Palestinian politician Yasser Arafat.[4]

The keffiyeh would later become a trademark symbol of Arafat, who was rarely seen without a distinctively-arranged black-and-white scarf. (Only occasionally did he wear a military cap or, in colder climates, a Russian-style fur hat called ushanka). Arafat would wear his keffiyeh in semi-traditional way, around the head and wrapped by an agal. He also wore a similarly patterned piece of cloth in the neckline of his military fatigues. Early on, he had made it his personal trademark to drape the scarf over his right shoulder only, arranging it in the rough shape of a triangle, to resemble the outlines of the territory claimed by Palestine. This way of wearing the keffiyeh became a symbol of Arafat as a person and political leader, and it has not been imitated by other Palestinian leaders.

Another Palestinian figure associated with the keffiyeh is Leila Khaled, a female member of the armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Several photographs of Khaled circulated in the Western newspapers after the hijacking of TWA Flight 840 and the Dawson’s Field hijackings. These photos often included Khaled wearing a keffiyeh in the style of a Muslim woman’s hijab, wrapped around the head and shoulders. This was unusual, as the keffiyeh is associated with Arab masculinity, and many believe this to be something of a fashion statement by Khaled, denoting her equality with men in the Palestinian armed struggle.

The colors of the stitching in a keffiyeh are also vaguely associated with Palestinians’ political sympathies
. Traditional black and white keffiyehs became associated with Fatah. Later, red and white keffiyehs were adopted by Palestinian Marxists, such as the PFLP. Today, Palestinian Marxists have virtually disappeared, and red and white keffiyehs are instead identified with Hamas.[4][6]

The color symbolism of the scarves is by no means universally accepted by all Palestinians or Arabs. Its importance should not be overstated, as the scarves are used by Palestinians and Arabs of all political affiliations, as well as by those with no particular political sympathies.

I AM A PALESTINIAN ACTIVIST, AT PRESENT TRYING TO SPREAD IT AMONG MY FRIENDS. NOW I THINK WE HAVE TO WORK FOR ROHINGYAS, TERRORIST TOR BAAP

Racist Burmese? i've been called a genetically inferior, low iq, neanderthal cave monkey jungle creature on here and not once have I made a racist comment back.

I want to ask. Did the rohingyas protecting the raper, ex. hide him, protect him, don't want to give him to the authority?

Your ambassador in Thailand had the audacity call our kin Rohingyas as black as ogre (ablush). This seems to be your way of denoting us with such a horrendous racial slur. So, what kind of words do you expect from us in exchnage? Will Bumese or more clearly Burman MONKEYS will suffice for non-Bangali Burmese? This is what you guys look like in our eyes. Just like other orangutans in the trees.

Hey, Burman, you seem to have read the Prothom Alo report that also says about the first muslims in Arakan, when it was not a part of Burma. It was 1433 when the Muslim troops of Bengal went to Arakan to reinstate a Budhist King. These people settled in Arakan and their descendents you are calling now Bangali ogre and claiming them as illegal immigrant from Bangladesh.

In reality, Burmans are the illegal occupiers of Arakan. Rohingyas must fight to get back their land from the Burman occupation.

AFAIK, something that was reported but quickly forgotten was that three men were caught by the police pretty quickly and were due to stand trial (I don't know what the outcome was). But I don't know if that's relevant or not. This is an explosive situation and it was only a matter of time before a spark like this set it off. As is common in these situations.

.
1. The media forgets that this genocide is part of a continuous massacre and physical elimination of the Muslim population started during the Japanese occupation. As the murderous commander of Arakan region Gen Ne Win had earned the name of The Butcher of Arakan. Killings with a view to expelling Muslims as a result never stopped.

2. The media isn't saying that these are all planned to time with any weakness in Bengal/E Bengal/E Pakistan/ BD. The Burmese King Bodapaw had invaded Arakan when Bengal was in a state of shock with the English Co just usurping power. After Partition these continued compelling CM Sher e Bangla to organize Mujahid training camp at Comilla Cantt. When Ayub just took over, the Burmese thought Pakistan was in a crisis, and again pounced on its Muslim population. Ayub had immediately sent the Governor Zakir Hussain to personally see what was happening on the border. That was message enough to Gen Ne Win that Pakistan was alert.

3.Just after emergence of BD Burma again tested the new state's reflexes by occupying an island on upper Naf. BD Army carried out recce and drew plans for recapture. The Burmese sensing BD's seriousness withdrew. During a meeting with Sk Mujib, Ne Win had said, "Mr President, please tell your people to observe our laws and there will be no trouble." The Sheikh retorted, "Mr President wherever there are Bengalees, that is BD". Ne Win often quoted this when he met diplomats, and particularly expressed his guarded concerns to Khwaza Kaisar, BD Ambassador.

4. The 1.20 mlln Muslims of Rangoon are always prepared. A long history of riots targeted at foreigners in Burma has taught them to be on guard. Last Friday they had advance info that the Burmans had organized killing groups to be stationed at selected spots to massacre Muslims returning from Fri prayers in groups. The Muslims simply said that prayers earlier as a special case. FYI, the Rangoon Muslims are a mix of various origin. There are Rohingyas also, but they are less. For instance, Bawanis, AK Khan,Dr Ibrahim of BIRDEM and many eminent families in SA are from Rangoon. Rangoon has always been a S Asian city with Muslim domination. Now Mandalay is dominated by Chinese traders.

5. In Maungdaw Muslims skipped the Fri prayers. So also in Buthidong, Rathidong and Sandway to escape the planned massacres. However, in Akyab Juma prayers were held.

6. In this spontaneous uprising thousands of Muslims have been killed in Maundaw, Buthidong, Rathidong and Sandway. Whole Quarters (that is the lowest admin unit in townships) of Muslims have been burnt down. For instance Qr #2 of Maungdaw, a Muslim quarter, does not exist any more. However, in Akyab the Muslims are well organized. The Rakhines suffered major casualty here and the state capital is under Muslim control.

7. Rohingya leaders complain that even if BD had made a display of troop mobilization on the border, the Rakhines would not have dared to continue the killings for days. In fact they would have run away from the major townships.

Whatever. I don't really take notice of racial abuse from a Bangladeshi. But if you're going to start sending racial abuse, understand that you have no position of moral superiority in calling us racists. BTW it was the consular general to Hong Kong and clearly he's an idiot. Probably got the job through nepotism.

If you want to believe in the fanatasy of Rohingya being descendents of ancient warriors then go ahead. The reality is that the vast majority were coolie labourers brought over by the British. Now, I don't think that's a sufficient reason for the Myanmar government to be so discriminatory but I won't entertain your bullshit propaganda from some tawdry sounding rag of a newspaper.

That asad71 sounds like a political agent. Just a heads up.

No...they have only 10 at the moment.

So we have parity in Airforce fire power with Myanmar?

Is it true that the accused rape perpetrator is a Rakhine Buddhist?

Indeed. Assad bhai's knowledge of Arakan alone is staggering...

So we have parity in Airforce fire power with Myanmar?

As I have said before, it is not the size of their army or fancy equipment we have to fear.

It is just that we do not know anything about their military's capabilities! It was one of the most secretive and isolated states in the world. How on earth can websites gather even general information about Myanmar's military is just beyond me!

And I do not think we did our homework as far as intelligence gathering on Burma is concerned.

Man fears what he doesn't know. I believe the Bangladeshi generals couldn't even think about going to war with Myanmar for that reason. And they never considered Myanmar as an enemy.

But we can hold our line in case Myanmar spearheads an attack (which is unlikely).

Is it true that the accused rape perpetrator is a Rakhine Buddhist?

Oh damn...

There was no infrastructure project ran by British in Arakan state so that they will be needing so many coolies. There were whole bunch of Railway workers Coolies as well as Engineers, Supervisor from India who paid their visit in Myanmar and most of them were chased out by the Junta and Burmese after the coup.

Arakan is a contiguous land and was an extension of Chittagong. It was under same country in different time of the history so people had settled according to their will. After the partition in 1947/48 some Bengalis did fall under the political geography of current Myanmar and are Myanmar citizen. Same goes for Bunch of Rakhaine, Marma, Chakma who were once Burmese became Bangaldeshis. Your coolie theory do not apply to Rohingiyas. You are living in delusion.

I want to ask. Did the rohingyas protecting the raper, ex. hide him, protect him, don't want to give him to the authority?

Yes they were held and the main culprit is Rakhaine not Rohingiya.

I bet all of its going to be empty talk, they are sneaky. They are playing off both China and India and fooling both. Bangladesh is child's play for them. They already have air superiority over us, where as I am not sure what our Airforce and Defense strategists are smoking. Any connectivity talk will be empty rhetoric to fool us and give us false hope. If they have been killing and purging our ethnic kin, while we did nothing but suck our thumb, then they already know how much respect they can have for us. No nation or tribe will have respect for people who do not take care of their own.

Lets not forget that this is the same Mog that were raiding us and taking our people as slaves teaming up with Portuguese pirates. Mughal army had to take back Chittagong from them to put a stop to that. Unfortunately we have no Mughal today, but may be we can ask other friendly nations for help.

This is the thing, we don't have leadership to hold the driving seat and we can't do anything. Other friendly nations' help will work only after we become stronger one with strong leadership.
