Burma riots: What the media isn’t telling you

Yes, by letting them(Rohingas) in would be playing into the Burmese hands. Burma wants all Rohinga out of their country and would love for them all to settle into Bangladesh.

However, you would need to consider the situation of Bangladesh versus that of others like China and Thailand. Forget China as that is so much more powerful than Burma it is not worth comparing
the two. Thailand is so much more developed than Burma that they had a lot of resources that they could throw at the issue. Thailand is currently nearly SIX times wealthier per capita than
Bangladesh.

A comparison of the airforces of Thailand and Burma shows an overwhelming Thai supremacy in the air.

Thailand has 56 F-16s, some are equipped with the AIM-120C AAM missile. It also has 6 Gripen and
they have 12 more on order.

In comparison. Burma has 32 Mig-29 fighters. Thailand has a much superior airforce to Burma.

What does Bangladesh have to face the 32 Burmese Mig-29s?

Just 8 Mig2-9s!!

Before you know it Burma will be bombing Chittagong if the situation escalates.

Once BD gets the 8 extra Mig-29M2s and if BD also gets the talked about 16 SU-30s then arming an insurgency will make theoretical sense militarily(but still not economically)
but that time is not now.

How long will it take for us to get these? What about the Burmese, I am sure they are also purchasing more planes, no? When do you think it will be feasible, if at all? Why not recruit help from other sympathetic nations, is that a possibility?

I completely agree that the ideal way to counter what the racist Burmese are doing is to arm an insurgency backed up with BD military force in case the Burmese go nuts and try large scale massacres in response.

However, BD is not in a very good situation militarily and I have already highlighted the fact that Burma has 32 Mig-29s versus the 8 Mig-29s that BD will be getting. Never undersood why BD recently purchased 16 F-7 fighters from China when 6 Mig-29s could have been purchased for the same price.

Currently BDs options are limited. You are in a much better position to say whether it would be feasible for BD to work wih China and Thailand in a joint fashion to arm our respective ethnic kin in Burma as I do not really have much knowledge of the situation in that respect. If that could be arranged, then BD could well go down the armed insurgency route however I do not know whether this will be wise with the current state of the BD airforce, which has really been neglected badly by both the BNP and Awami league.

I also think that BD should approach other Muslim nations such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan etc and see their views on this. If some indicate that they are willing to help in terms of diplomatic, finanancial and military support(e.g Pakistan is willing to transfer a squadron of JF-17s to BD at short notice if the need arises), then BD would be better placed to arm a Rohinga insurgency.

Put simply, BD would need diplomatic, economic and military help in order to carry this out successfully. It cannot go alone.

The boy who raped the girl and started the riot is not rohingya, his parents are Rakhaine! Labong was crying on that point!

This is the thing I've been trying to say. One junta and its followers don't make the whole nation animal. Almost all bigots have followers, good or bad don't matter in fan following. Burmese president Thein Sein is supposed to be in Dhaka in July, now what's going to be main agenda during his visit, definitely this sectarian issue whereas there were some new dimensions of relationships in development like air communication between BD-Burma, the Chittagong-Kunming connection an old talk also would get some new light.

I bet all of its going to be empty talk, they are sneaky. They are playing off both China and India and fooling both. Bangladesh is child's play for them. They already have air superiority over us, where as I am not sure what our Airforce and Defense strategists are smoking. Any connectivity talk will be empty rhetoric to fool us and give us false hope. If they have been killing and purging our ethnic kin, while we did nothing but suck our thumb, then they already know how much respect they can have for us. No nation or tribe will have respect for people who do not take care of their own.

Lets not forget that this is the same Mog that were raiding us and taking our people as slaves teaming up with Portuguese pirates. Mughal army had to take back Chittagong from them to put a stop to that. Unfortunately we have no Mughal today, but may be we can ask other friendly nations for help.

Well its pretty clear that there is widespread anti-rohingya sentiment in Myanmar. Then its fair to surmise that the security forces would also be biased and Rohingyas are then pretty much on their own.

Its a human tragedy and I feel sorry for the Rohingya.

However there are limitations to what a neighboring country can do. The best way is to engage the Myanmar govt and convince them to handle the issue. Lets not forget Myanmar govt is a poor govt too and maybe some wealthier govts interested in the welfare of Rohingya could incentivise the Myanmar govt.

While BS anger is understandable, an armed insurgency will lead to more bloodshed and human suffering and bitter relations between Myanmar and BD, something NOT in BD interests given their geographical location.

Dear friend

Yesterday Aung San Suu Kyi was finally able to deliver her Nobel Peace Prize lecture, 21 years after receiving the award.

Significantly, she used the occasion to make an impassioned call on governments to increase funding for refugees from Burma who live in camps in Thailand. She recently visited one of the refugee camps, and was concerned to hear stories of the situation in the camps, where people have faced ration cuts of 25 percent and no longer get support for clothes and shelter.

Speaking in Oslo, she said: “Can we afford to indulge in compassion fatigue? Is the cost of meeting the needs of refugees greater than the cost that would be consequent on turning an indifferent, if not a blind, eye on their suffering? I appeal to donors the world over to fulfil the needs of these people who are in search, often it must seem to them a vain search, of refuge.’

TAKE ACTION NOW!

Please send an email to Andrew Mitchell, Secretary of State for International Development, calling on him to increase British government funding for refugees. You can send an email here:
Aid to Burma - Actions - Campaigns - Burma Campaign UK

It will only take two minutes, and could stop a child going hungry.

Thank you for your support.

Burman Suu Kyi conveniently forgot to mention the Muslim refugees being massacred in Arakan - BD border, and those few millions of them living all over the world. She is a politician after all, and her base of power is the Burman community.

Never thought I'd see people calling bengalis terrorists but for bd rohingyas I get to see this day.

Now on I will root for the munshi and idune cause of not referring Bangladeshis as Bengali, which according to them is a conspiracy of raw to undermine Bangladeshi nationalism and deviating pious Bangladeshis to tagore loving culture of west Bengal

Yeah, that looks like an objective and reliable news source.

prothom alo is the number 1 newspaper in Bangladesh! The editor is more powerful than Awami Ministers...... They have no reason to lie... They are anti-jamat and share similar secular ideology with Awamileague! STFU!

According to Prothom Alo, father of the rapist is Rakhine but the guy is living with Rohingyas after his fathers death. It doesn't make much sense.

common! it was Rakhaine penis........! they are murdering Rohingyas for that!
