ugti murder case: Supreme Court refuses bail to Musharraf
Islamabad: Upholding the decision of Balochistan High Court, the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday refused to grant bail to ex-president Pervez Musharraf in the murder case of Baloch chieftain, Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.
Akbar Bugti was killed in 2006 in a military operation in Balochistan and a case was registered later in 2009 against Musharraf, who is presently lodged in his farmhouse on the outskirts of Islamabad.
The Balochistan High Court (BHC) had turned down the former army chiefs bail plea in the Bugti murder case. Musharrafs counsel Ibrahim Satti had challenged the BHC decision in the Supreme Court in July.
A two-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, heard the petition about the rejection of bail.
The ex-presidents counsel pleaded that his clients plea for bail was rejected because he was not produced before the trial court or within the territorial jurisdiction of the trial court in Balochistan due to security concerns.
Satti said it was his request that the court should decide the matter keeping in view the law and order situation and the facts surrounding the case. Issuing notice to Jamil Akbar Bugti, son of the slain Baloch leader, the court adjourned hearing of the case for two weeks.
