First generation converts are most dangerous people. Their bigotry knows no bound.

How is it that Pakistani's are high on Islam then? They are in there 3/4th or more generation of Islam now.

I find that Arabs are less likely to harp on Islam than Pakistanis. Its Pakistani's who try to be more Islamic than the Arabs!

Could one then extend this discussion and say that all religions that had essentially mortal Prophets went on the evangelize and try and spread via conversion?

My only issue with this is that many of our Dharmic faiths, like first Jainism, then Buddhism, and finally Sikhism, all in their own way also had mortal humans holding the primary position. Not called Prophets per se, but similar in hierarchy?

I am trying to understand why some religions seek to convert, while others move almost 180 degrees in diametrically opposite direction?

One reason could be the basic premise of whether there is only one path to the divine.

Now, for us it just doesn't make sense that an all powerful divine could be as "narrow minded" as is portrayed by some religions, that he would burn his own creation in eternal hellfire (and make life hell even on the Earth itself) just for the "crime" of failing to be persuaded by what apparently were very weak arguments on the part of the persuader.

Or worse, they never could reach them!

If you believe that there are multiple paths to the divine, you don't need to forcibly (or otherwise) convert people. The only thing would be peaceful spread through the means similar to what made Buddhism the grandest success in history.

It is not so much about the number of generation as the insecurity about the identity.

Basically, since the Deng Xiaoping Era the Chinese government has been rebuilding Taoist and Buddhist Temples in particular.

Christianity is trying to spread, and every time the Government demolishes one of those "underground churches" the Western media goes crazy and says that the Chinese government persecutes all religion.

The preference for the former is because Taoism/Buddhism do not answer to outside/foreign authorities like the Vatican. Also, the Chinese government wants to be seen as the guardian of Chinese culture and nationalism.

Especially after the Cultural Revolution, which was widely condemned, even by the Chinese government itself.

And yes, the Pakistan studies and curriculum obviously help in making such unlikely guesses.

Islam vs Christianity? What is this, the Crusades??
There have been conflicts between the two, but to say that the two are at war like that.
The West is at war with some Muslims and extremists, however, it is not at war with the majority of Muslims, the only Muslim states the West was at war with was Afghanistan while under taliban law, Palestine (it seems to me), Iraq and maybe Iran.
The GCC countries are all allies, Pakistan was once an ally.

How on Earth does that equate to Islam vs China?

Islam vs Zionists. This one happens a lot, the majority of any Muslim population, you will find that they are anti-Israeli and pro-Palestinian. Not so much on a state level. But ask yourself why that is, are we just war mongers filled with hate for others?

Islam vs Hindus. Last I noticed Hindus don't have a nation, however, they are seen rarely outside their own nation, unless of course we talk about Western nations. The only Muslim vs Hindu conflicts, based solely on that have been in India. But you insult your own country by calling it Islam vs Hindus. You insult your own secularism and identity. Aren't there any Muslims in India at peace? Or are they all busy fighting the rest of you?

It is so strange as well. These days, Abrahamic religions are getting bad press all over the place (even in the Western media) while Dharmic religions get mostly good press, apart from this recent Burma issue.

So why does it feel like Eastern religions are on the back foot right now. (Or maybe it is just the cycle of history?)

The CCP again realized the importance of Eastern religions only recently, and only due to fear from Christianity making significant inroads. Maybe too little too late.

India was a Hindu majority nation during Chandragupta's rule then it became 80% Buddhist during Ashoka's rule and again moved to Hindu majority. But there was no religious violence involved.
But if you look at the history of Middleast around Jerusalem, you will realize all Abrahamic religions propagated through wars, force, violence,crusades. Christians killed Muslims, Muslims killed Jews, Jews killed Christians and so on. More over they also destroyed other cultures. When Islam arrived in Persia, Parsis took refuge in India, Islamic invaders burnt libraries of Nalanda University, in South America Christian Missionaries destroyed Mayan books/history.

Why some one would like to erase history of the region and super impose its belief forcefully to locals

Cause what happens to the Rohingya's is the onus of all ASEAN members. We haven't seen the atrocity of this like since the Rwandan genocide. That it happen when the country is about to open up. Is a stain on ASEAN reputation.
