BSF guns down Pakistani intruder in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: Border Security Force (BSF) troopers on Sunday morning gunned down an unidentified intruder along the India-Pakistan international border in the Dera Baba Nanak sector of Punjab, an official said.

A BSF officer said Sunday that the intruder opened fire on the BSF troopers after he was spotted near the international border. The troopers returned the fire and killed the intruder.

The intruder was killed near the electrified barbed wire fence inside Indian territory along the international border.

BSF deputy inspector general PS Bains said that a pistol of Chinese make, eight cartridges and three SIM cards of Pakistani mobile companies were recovered from the intruder.

"We are trying to ascertain whether he was a smuggler," a BSF official said.

The body of the intruder has been handed over to the police in Dera Baba Nanak, 250 km from here, in Punjab's Batala district.

BSF has already been updated with night vision gadgets mounted on INSAS rifles. They are also been upgraded with Baretta sub m/c guns but it is not cleared whether BSF in punjab has been assisted with that or not.

Guys ... There was a big news last year of BSF getting huge number of Beretta sub machine guns (30000 approx). Any update on that. Beretta can be handy in such incidents.

Yeah they started receiving them. Infact one of the batch was faulty and was returned and then some senior beretta official apologized and said defected batch will be replaced. Considering Beretta is in row for CQB carbine and assault rifle contract of IA, they wanna establish good reputation with BSF contract.

IIRC, that weapon is a CQB weapon. It would be practically useless in the environment we see at the LOC. I may be wrong though.
