British Defense Secretary Des Browne has arrived in Pakistan for talks with top military officials and new government's ministers on expansion of defense ties and security issues, a Defense Ministry official said.

Browne arrived in Pakistan last night after holding talks in Afghanistan, the official said, adding he will hold talks with Pakistani counterpart, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, later today.

He will also meet Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and army Chief General Ashfaq Kayani.

This is Des Browne's first visit to Pakistan since the new government in Pakistan has taken over in March.

He expressed concern over Pakistan move to hold talks with Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsood and urged Islamabad to stop his attacks.

He also expressed reservations over peace deal between Pakistani government and militants in Swat valley and said such deals should not pave the way for attacks in Afghanistan.

Sources said that the British defense secretary will convey his concerns to Pakistan over the peace deal.

Pakistan government inked a peace deal with the militants in Swat valley this month under which the militants will stop attacks on security forces and the troops will be gradually withdrawn from the restive region.

Pakistani authorities are holding talks with Baitullah Mehsood to end violence in the tribal regions and rest of the country. --IRNA
