Ambassadors certainly are responsible for what they say, but in an less-than-ideal world that isn't always the case, and hence in times of crisis their words should be evaluated for what they are - words - unless a more authoritative body could corroborate them.

Well, sounds like the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon got carried away and should be censured for the boast he made. Very similar thing was said by Pakistan Airforce Chief recently when he talked about shooting down US drones if they fired inside Pakistan--a posture not supportable and not supported by Pakistani military leadership publicly. Both of these instances are embarrassing.

Anyway, I, for one, do not believe that Assad used chemical weapons especially when the tide was turning in his favor. This is a drama staged by someone else. And I, for one, am glad Russia didn't go after American vessels in last 24 hours. Unless Russian citizens are targeted, Russians wouldn't want to escalate. And it's also possible that Russia will use this as an excuse to be more aggressive in Ukraine--which is presumably more important that Syria.

Maybe this mayhem will stop now and not escalate.

This discussion won't get anywhere because you have preconceived notions of virtually everything. Cruise missile strikes are not publicity stunts; they fly towards a target in terrain-hugging manner and are incredibly difficult to intercept because majority of radar systems are not able to obtain a lock on them.

Time and time again you provide to be ignorant in the simplest of matters even when I dumbed it down for you. Not meant as an insult but just stating the obvious.


Cruise missile don’t always fly low, certainty not in urban environments where they risk hitting buildings, power lines, and high antenna towers.

Important thing to not is that Damascus is surrounded by tall mountains, meaning even if the cruise missile is in terrain hugging mod it will be flying at a much higher altitude then you would think. Once the cruise missile clears the mountains it will be exposed as it makes it way down the valley.

There was also aircraft that participated in the attack, something like an AGM-158 would have to be dropped from an aircraft.....

Do you seriously think Syrian air defenses are firing flares at cruise missiles?

Some journalists that don’t know a rocket from a teaspoon made an embarrassing blunder and you fell for it. Those videos clearly showed missiles, think for a second and ask yourself why the videos of support flares have identical flight characters to videos of missiles? Why do those flares not behave like flairs?
