Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesperson announced on Saturday that the Taliban will observe ceasefire for a month, Express News reported.
Shahidullah Shahid also added that all groups linked to the TTP have also been asked to commit to the ceasefire.
Rustam Shah Mohmand, one of the four mediators appointed by the government, welcomed the ceasefire and said that the government should take advantage of this development, adding that the peace talks should continue.
Speaking to Express News, Professor Ibrahim, member of the committee appointed by the Taliban, said that the Taliban want to “give the gift of peace to the country.”
Earlier on Thursday, the top advisory council of the TTP had agreed to announce the suspension of hostilities against the government, one of the three members of the TTP negotiation committee had told The Express Tribune on condition of anonymity.
