ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The meeting between PM Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif is underway.
According to sources, the meeting is discussing the current political and security situation of the country.
The COAS will also brief the PM about the important decisions being taken during yesterday’s Corps Commander meeting, the sources added.
Earlier on Sunday, the Corps Commanders Conference headed by COAS General Raheel Sharif decided to continue supporting democracy. It was concluded in the conference that the use of force against protesters will deteriorate the situation.
The conference recommended finding political situation of the issue as soon as possible.
An emergency Corps Commanders Conference was held at General Head-Quarters (GHQ). Conference was held for more than three hours in which Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) General Zaheerul Islam and Principal Staff officers were also present.
‘Reviewing the situation with serious concern’ military leadership expressed great concern over the current political crisis and expressed sorrow for the loss of lives in Islamabad.
Pakistan Army spokesperson told that the military leadership hoped for a political resolution of the matter during the conference and recommended to solve the political crisis in a political manner and as early as possible. Corps commanders opined that using force over the protesters may worsen the situation so violent means should not be adopted for resolution of the crisis
