The year 2014 was a very bad year for the Malaysian aviation industry.

Again an error, if this didn't happen before take off who knows it might have been another crash, AirAsia sucks

AirAsia plane engine cuts out minutes before takeoff in Indonesia – report — RT News

“The plane was ready and moved, but suddenly a loud sound was heard, the sound of the engine disappeared and the plane moved backward. We were shocked and panicked. The plane was then pulled back to where it parked and we were asked by the stewardess to leave the plane,” passenger Yusuf Fitriadi was quoted as saying.

Firstly, we don't know what brought the accident flight down.

Secondly, I wasn't aware AirAsia was responsible for the design and manufacture of the CFM56 engines involved.

They're responsible for maintenance, with so many errors and one again today people start questioning their maintenance of the aircraft.

There is no evidence to suggest Air Asia Indonesia (or any affiliate) has been taking short cuts where maintenance and safety is concerned. This is further corroborated by the fact that the EU regulator EASA which regularly conducts safety audits on foreign airlines has kept them off the airline black list unlike their competitor Lionair

Peejjet comments on AirAsia plane engine dies just before takeoff from Surabaya. 90% of passengers refuse to re-embark plane for takeoff after problem was rectified

These engines start using compressed air from another engine or the APU (tiny, no thrust engine in the rear of plane) and when dealing with the plumbing of this extremely hot, compressed air the valves sometimes stick. The engine takes this air and has a starter to convert this energy into rotational force to start the engine and this is usually done via a shaft and gears. If the starter valves don't close, the starter will stay engaged and the engine will run but it just won't be happy. On most planes it is a simple fix of manually closing that valve. Sometimes we can do that while the engine is still running and continue to our destination to have maintenance fix the valve there. Usually maintenance can just exercise the valve and it will test and work just fine.

Professional pilot - 4000 commercial flights seen it about 3 times.
