According to this page, it is also capable of carrying 500 pounder

. .
Probably more capable than FT-5 but where does it stand in comparison to any of the potential adversary?
The only scenario I can think of might be against attack helos, but still what is its range and endurance to perform any such duties in real combat? However it might be a good choice for early A2A combat training for the rookies

Remember earlier we even armed the FT-5 with AAMs, the K-8 is much more capable platform.

ft5-39-large.jpg

A10 is built like a tank to take AAA fire, have long endurance and carries huge quantity of armament to do what it is designed to do. Just like you cant strap a cannon on top of a car and send it out to tackle real tanks, you can't strap missiles on a trainer and send it out to tackle prime strikers from your enemy

Everyone hating on the K8.
It's relatively low stall speed and ceiling make it perfect for engagment of slow flying ACs, Helicopters and UAVs.
Also remember that the best Ground Support ACs are slow ones like the A10 and SU25.
So stop bashing the K8.

Some people see positivity in that saying, I see unprofessionalism, lack of planning and desperation...........next time you say that (in a war scenario), imagine the outcome of 100 stone pelters going against a single assault rifle....... you don't go to a fight with "lets do this and we will see what happens" or "Let's do that and hope for the best", you go with ONE objective and a sound plan to achieve that objective. Period.

There is saying, something is better than nothing..............if nothing else it can be used to drop bombs on TTP hideouts in Zarb-e-Azab......

Well PAF has used such aircraft even against India during wars, so it is nothing new.

Like This incident:

A young flight lieutenant was flying over Chamb sector in search of a target. Just a couple of days ago, he was in PAF academy Risalpur as a flight instructor. As the war broke out, he and his fellow instructors volunteered for active role in the operational area. Enemy had more resources, so the Vintage Harvard TG-6 aircrafts were also brought in the war zone. Carrying only 400 rounds of machine gun and four 60 pounder bombs, it was a suicidal mission to fly just at the speed of 145 MPH. whereas enemy had superior aircrafts.

Flight Lieutenant was ordered to deliver his payload on the enemy column advancing in the area. Soon he noticed the movement of enemy convoy in the area.

"Contact I have visual on the target", Flight Lieutenant told the base.

"You are clear to engage", Base acknowledged.

Getting the approval, he dived on the target. Dropping the 60 pounder bomb and firing the machine guns, the Flight Lieutenant stunned the enemy. Enemy vehicles were destroyed but the location of the pilot was also exposed.

Enemy ack-ack started intense firing on the aircraft. Neglecting every fear, he again dived on the enemy; firing and dropping the bomb. A shell exploded near his aircraft which shattered the canopy and damaged the aircraft. Not only the aircraft was damaged but it also fractured his right arm which started bleeding profusely. With a broken arm and absence of canopy it was nearly impossible to control an out dated machine. Ground control advised him to eject. But the flight Lieutenant took the aircraft away from the battle field to Pakistani territory, flying the aircraft with just his left hand, landing safely on the Chaklala air field. He not only destroyed the enemy but also saved the aircraft.
Later, the flight Lieutenant was awarded with Sitara e Jurrat. The world knows the brave aviator as Group Captain Asrar Ahmed, Sitara e Jurrat, Sitara e Basalat.

Pakistan Air Force - currently operates 60 K-8 aircraft (12 K-8s and 48 K-8Ps)

K8 being armed is a good measure , considering it can play a vital role
  • Can Patrol border
  • Can take out Helicopters transporting Enemy Terrorist by means of Air (Helicopter ride)
  • The platform can engage
5 Hard points to offer for the plane , in Case of Emergency the 5 Hard points offer bonus ability to defend / Supplement the existing fleet of Fast Speed Fighter Jets

Speedwise the platform is about 700km/hr or 800 km / hr , that is faster then any Helicopter platform so it can serve as a Helicopter Hunter

The speed is sufficient to take on any Large Aircraft / Surveillance craft , successfully perform a task

The Air-Air Missile does not have mercy fired from any platform if you are in range it will cause damage

k8p-1-large.jpg

60 planes x 5 = "300" Missiles for Addition to Air Security

100-120 planes would serve well to Patrol the Western Frontier as well or UAV which ever is reliable

Plus point : 100% Made locally , can be used in ground Operations / Air protection role

Just receiving news that PAF has successfully test fired AAMs from K-8P thus clearing it for air combat duties.

  :enjoy: I've been saying it on here for years that the PAF needed to convert these aircraft for AAM and light ground attack as these can become real handy for either role. You produce a licensed version of GRIFO with good range (45-50 KM if I am correct?). Meaning sidewinders / PL-7 and may be SD-10 can be used with this plane too. Great point defense and light ground attack option, for a cheaper price tag and in numbers.

The K-8s in your picture are carrying AAMs as well. Don't look like training rounds either. Why the breaking news in the thread? I always thought K-8 could carry these from the get go.

Strange I was thinking the same thing :P

Must be a .... new "Option" with suprise "Range"

What would be nice on this platform

1- Recon Pod
2- Triple Missile charring pods
3- Rocket Pods

We really should add 100 more crafts , we have 48

China has about 400 ordered for their needs

Nice utility plane, if you want to recon a large area and also want to have option to engage immediately (Rouge Helicopter , Rouge Ground Unit , Rouge Establishment building or Spy agency)

Also it sucks for the "LARGE Big name fighter jet" that the little K8 has a little suprise

Payload is 900kg ish, can't put so much stuff on it.

Well I mean not all fleet may be going for Air-Air role , some might be customized for Ground role , enemy won't know which little K8 has a special gift

  • Helo Hunter - no helo can escape it
  • UAV Hunter
  • Tank Hunter
  • APC Hunter

Ocassional help in Air-Air role for Support of JF17 Thunder fleet
