Police are quizzing a man after a plane was forced to land in Sweden after a tip-off that a passenger was carrying a bomb.

The Boeing 777, carrying 273 people, was flying from Canada to Pakistan when officials contacted the pilot to tell him about the threat.
The Pakistan International Airlines aircraft was diverted to Stockholm's Arlanda airport, where it landed this morning.
Passengers have been evacuated from the plane and police are questioning the suspect.

The suspect is a Pakistani national with a Canadian passport, officials said.
Stockholm district police spokesman Janne Hedlund said that no explosives had been found on the man but his baggage was being searched.
The alarm was raised after a woman in Canada contacted the authorities there from a payphone.
The plane was on its way from Toronto to Karachi, Pakistan. Arlanda airport remained open to air traffic.

Could this woman by any chance be related to this man? Maybe she is an upset girl friend or wife who threw up a temper tantrum.

could very well be....but even if they know it was a false alarm they wouldnt take the risk... i am pretty sure the guy was an innocent passenger...

Police arrest passenger after plane makes emergency landing in Sweden

Anti-terrorist police secure a passenger as a Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 777 is evacuated at Stockholm airport.

(CNN) -- Authorities arrested a passenger after a plane made an emergency landing in Sweden on Saturday morning, police said.

The plane -- which had 273 people onboard and was flying from Canada to Pakistan -- landed after a caller told authorities that a passenger had explosives with him.

All passengers were later evacuated from the plane, Stockholm Police spokesman Kjell Lindgren said.

The man in custody is suspected of "preparation of aviation sabotage," Lindgren said, adding that no explosives had been found yet.

"Right now we are still searching through the plane and the baggage, but we have found no expolsives on the man," he said.

He said police still are determining what exactly was said during the call that forced the plane to land. "Our priority is to find out what happened on that plane," Lindgren said.

The man was arrested in a "very nondramatic fashion" as passengers filed off the plane, he added. While the man was carrying a passport, police are still investigating his identity.

Pakistan International Airlines Flight 782 was heading from Toronto, Canada, to Karachi, Pakistan, when it landed because of "security reasons," said Sultan Hassan, an airline spokesman.

The plane landed at Arlanda airport in Stockholm, Sweden, at 7:30 a.m. (1:30 a.m. ET) Saturday after a woman calling from a pay phone in Canada tipped off police that a man on the plane had explosives, police spokesman Janne Hedlund said.

Canadian authorities contacted the plane while it was in Swedish airspace, Hedlund said.

The man is from Pakistan and has a Canadian passport, Hedlund said.

Authorities do not know whether the man has explosives, what kind of explosives could be in his possession or whether he knows the person who notified authorities, Hedlund said.

There was no direct bomb threat against the flight, he said.

Hassan said he did not have more specific details about the cause of the diversion. All passengers on board are safe, he said.

Threats to airliners come almost daily to major airline companies. Internal security teams consider the validity of the threat, and only very rarely do they issue any kind of warning to the crew, because once they do, they are pretty much committed to this sort of a divert. But actual bombs on board remain a problem.

I also suspect some sort of female "vengeance" thing in this case... if it turns out she made it all up, she WILL go to jail.

Another conspiracy against Pakistanis living abroad.
Now the future target will be Canadian Pakistanis.
Be careful dear Pakistanis from the wolves around you which are most likely hiding in the skin of lambs.

It doesn't matter whether this is true or not but just think. Now those 270 passengers will have a negative impression of Pakistanis forever.

Such things do a great damage to the image of any nation.

Doesn't matter as majority of passengers were Pakistanis anyway. But i must say that idiotic woman should be arrested straight away.
