Bomb Blast in Crowded Daata Darbar (Shrine), Lahore

Besides the rising extremism problem in Pakistan (which still isn't terribly bad, because the public did support the PA's operations), the more worrying trend seen in Pakistan is the apathy of the masses/the moderates towards the preservation of good ideals in society. In other words, people have started believing that EVERYTHING is the responsibility of our "Western enemies", and we just need to form some kind of "Muslim Brotherhood" to defeat them. They would claim "Islam is against terrorism" and wouldn't personally support terrorism, but would be willing to accept the extremism of others in the name of Islam. That is worrying to me. The lack of condemnation is troubling.

There is no such thing as "Muslim Brotherhood" in Pakistan. The peaceful Muslims are being destroyed by factions (in the name of "Muslim brotherhood" and desiring the "restoration of the caliphate") moderates are apathetic to nowadays: these groups should be condemned, and this evil needs to be nipped from the bud. The Pakistani government need to get tough with these people, Ataturk style.

We need to adopt ideals such as the Declaration of Independence/fifth amendment, which protects the "life, liberty and pursuit to happiness" for every citizen. We need a more secularized approach, and demolish this Madrassah culture. Religion needs to be de-institutionalized once and for all. The moderate majority of Pakistan can't sit on the fence anymore in the name of Islamic Brotherhood, they need to outright condemn this terrorism, and realize that religion should be a personal matter between the person and God. We need to realize and accept that a non-Muslim Pakistani is just as much of a Pakistani as anyone else. We have to get out of this notion that Arabs are anything like us, or want what is best for us/Muslim brothers.

I am starting to believe that Prof Pervez Hoodbhoy (who I still respectfully disagree with on many issues) was right in his assertion that the "hijab" in colleges and universities has for the most part stifled public discourse and discussions.

What a sad time in Pakistan. Data Darbar was one of the most important Shrines of Sufism on par with maybe Golra Sharif. I am a mureed(disciple) of Golra Sharif and i will be in Pakistan next month and will be visiting Golra Sharif alot. Haven't most Pakistanis noticed that these attacks on religious sites have been aimed precisely at the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, apart from the ones on Ahmedis. Dr Sarfraz Naemi was a scholar of the Ahle Sunnat. International Islamic University is administered by the Ahle Sunnat. Ahle Sunnat is heavily fused with Sufism. As it is one of our beliefs to believe in the Awliya of Allah (SWT), most shrines of great saints are administered by the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, even the khateebs are members of the Ahle Sunnat.
Ahle Sunnat have stood up against and denuonced terrorists as non muslims. Great Ulema have destroyed the ideology of these terrorists. The ideology of Salafism, Deobandis and Wahabbis has pretty much been exposed with major flaws etc by the Ahle Sunnat according to the Quran and Sunnah.
GOP cannot even keep food affordable for the common man anymore. Providing security is like mission impossible for this lot. I have already heard accusations thrown at the Army. That is unjust and stupid. Army is fighting many battles on the Afghan border, has to keep a presence on our eastern border and now it should be incharge of internal security matters.
Zardaris deep regret and Maliks investigation aproach is BULLCR*P. These people need to be finished they have caused Pakistan soo many problems. Our economy cannot progress coz of these exact freaks, NOT coz of India or America.
At every level they need to be challenged. You cannot challenge these people by the pen because their own Aqeedah is not strong enough to respond.
The great tragedy of Pakistan is it has never really invested in a police force. Just look at the appearance of most of these police officers, if i was one id be scared for my life to. Armed with poor weaponary, no protection provided.
Pakistan has to invest in its police. the Army cannot do everything for this country.
Pakistan should launch a covert operation in the Punjab province using commandos and intelligance. These Freaks should be butchered.
Pakistan has to be RUTHLESS on these freaks now its about time, unforgiving.
If these freaks carry on like this our economy will criple, the Punjab is Pakistan's breadbasket, vital industrial region. Pakistan needs investment needs trade with other nations outside the usual. We cannot make progress until these freaks are butchered.
Once our economy progresses there will be MORE jobs, we can invest HEAVILY in education, providing people with a sense of life.
The radical mullahs of Pakistan have easy preys at the moment partly so due to the financial circumstances. When you cannot feed your own family, cannot afford to live, pay your utilities. Inflation is so rocket that prices change by the day even of basic food. Ends dont meet and now we all know the result.
GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN WAKE UP.

REALLY sad incident.

Perhaps for the first time Minister Religious Affairs has admitted that though planners may be outsiders ... but the actual ppl being used for the purpose are local and they are Muslims. However he still tried to justify the scenario by saying that actual suiciders are in childhood age. They had whole blank mind. They were purposefully taught wrong things about religion.

But ... he should also accept that they are not in early childhood. They are 17-18 year ppl. Before when foreign planners brainwash them, they already get ill education from insiders. Making it easy for foreign planners to use them for their own purposes.

TTP denies involvement

On Friday, the Pakistani Taliban denied any involvement in the attack.

“We are not responsible for these attacks, this is a conspiracy by foreign secret agencies, you know we do not attack public places,” Azam Tariq, a spokesman for Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan told AFP by telephone from an undisclosed location.

“We condemn this brutal act. Our target is very clear and we only attack police, army and other security personnel,” he added.

has anybody accepted responsibility yet?

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Of course, they will deny it. If they do not deny it, how will we able to blame a foreign power as always. Now , they will use their paid media to manufacture a conspiracy theory blaming it on everyone else under the sun except the Saudi Oligarchs.

And now people will say this is a Western conspiracy against Islam. Sad, isn't it? These bloody terrorists a threat to the existence of Pakistan. They are not even freedom fighters. They are willing to kill their own fellow Muslims, yet people are more willing to listen to them than the West, because they are the "enemies of Muslims". Despicable. The "West" is also against China, North Korea, Chile, Russia: all non-Muslim countries, yet they use "Western propaganda" as motivation to prove them wrong. We use "Western propaganda" to hide behind our failures.

Pakistan under pressure to act after Lahore violence

LAHORE, July 2 (Reuters) - Pressure mounted on Pakistan's government to curb militant violence on Friday after suicide bombers killed dozens in the country's most economically important province and traditional seat of power.

In the second major attack in the eastern city of Lahore in the Punjab heartland in a month, two suicide bombers struck a Sufi shrine on Thursday night, killing at least 41 people and wounding 175.

Security was beefed up at Sufi shrines across the country as the U.S.-backed Pakistani government sought to project an image of stability in the face of mounting violence.

"We have always remained peaceful but our patience should not be tested any more," said Raghib Naeemi, an anti-Taliban cleric whose outspoken father was killed in a suicide attack in Lahore last year.

"The government should not just ban the names of the terrorist groups but should also curb their activities. The banned groups are freely operating in the country under new names."

Taliban militants generally abhor the Sufi strand of Islam and disapprove of Muslims visiting shrines, which is popular with many Pakistanis.

Militants may have been trying to whip up emotions by attacking sacred religious sites in a bid to destabilise Pakistan.

Militants linked to al Qaeda and the Taliban have unleashed a wave of attacks across Pakistan in revenge for the military offensives in their bastions in the northwest of the country near the Afghan border.

While most of the reprisal militant attacks have taken place in the northwest, militants have stepped up attacks in the heartland of the country, mainly the central province of Punjab, in recent months. Lahore is the capital of Punjab.

Hundreds of devotees were visiting the marble shrine of the 11th century Persian Sufi saint, Syed Ali Hajwairi, commonly known as Data Gunj Bakhsh, in the heart of the city when Thursday's attacks occurred.

Scores of people also held a protest in Lahore on Friday morning against the attack. Wider demonstrations are expected at the shrine and other parts of the city after mid-day prayers.

Officials have blamed attacks in the province on the "Punjabi Taliban," a term used for the militants drawn from Punjab who have joined ranks with Taliban in the northwest.

More than 80 people were killed in twin attacks on the mosques of the minority Ahmadi sect in May.
