Boeing and the U.S. Navy proved recently that the F/A-18 Super Hornet can operate from a "ski jump" ramp, demonstrating the aircraft's suitability for India's aircraft carriers.

Boeing press release

The demonstrations, held at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, showed that the Super Hornet would do well with the Indian Navy’s Short Takeoff but Arrested Recovery (STOBAR) system and validated earlier simulation studies by Boeing.
“The first successful and safe launch of the F/A-18 Super Hornet from a ski jump begins the validation process to operate effectively from Indian Navy aircraft carriers. The F/A-18 Block III Super Hornet will not only provide superior war fighting capability to the Indian Navy but also create opportunities for cooperation in naval aviation between the United States and India.”
Ankur Kanaglekar, India Fighter Sales lead for Boeing
The Indian Navy is evaluating its fighter options. If it selects the Super Hornet, it would benefit from billions of dollars invested in new technologies by the U.S. Navy and others. Those technologies include advanced networking, longer range through conformal fuel tanks, infrared search and track, and a new advanced cockpit system.
“This milestone further positions the Block III Super Hornet as a versatile next-generation frontline fighter for decades to come. With its proven capabilities, affordable acquisition price, known low documented life-cycle costs and guaranteed delivery schedule, the Block III Super Hornet is ideally suited to meet fighter aircraft requirements of customers in India, North America and Europe.”

Thom Breckenridge, vice president of International Sales for Strike, Surveillance and Mobility with Boeing Defense, Space & Security
The ski jump demonstrations follow the delivery of two Block III flight-test aircraft to the U.S. Navy in June. Boeing is on contract to deliver next-generation Block III capabilities to the U.S. Navy beginning in 2021. The Super Hornet provides the most weapons at range in the U.S. Navy’s fighter inventory, including five times more air-to-ground and twice the air-to-air weapons capacity.

super hornets in indian colours, would give me goose pimples, here in uk.

what a,sight hornets,on board the new vikrant carriers, would be amazing

my guess the vikrant at 40000 tonnes is,a,medium sized carrier and will field 24 to 28 fixed wing fighters and a dozen helicopters in war situation.

I expect a hornet order of 32 to 36 fighters, with 8 to 12 on land based as repair reserves and rotation.

that deal will cost India around 6 to 7 billion dollars with weapons and training.etc .

Rafale will be similar in cost

Indian Navy sent request for info. From all leading manufacturers for 57 Naval Fighters with base thrust , load carrying and weight limits.
So all in all if F-18 BLK 3 are selected over Mig29K, Rafale and Sea Gripen, thr will be 57 coming.

57 hornets will.cost a lot of rupees no way will India buy gripen.its single engine and Rafale is too expensive imo.

I think it will be a watered down order of 36

I.did see 57 in media last 2 two years but financial reality will kick in

it will still take couple of years to sign the deal, but yes looks likely F-18s are coming.
57 was the quantity signed off by MOD and Indian Navy dont see any change yet thr, but pretty sure its not analogous to Rafale saga, as in that case we were literally expecting TOT from french for thr latest tech. so cost was just too high, thats why 36 Rafales were selected as part of strategic force to carry nukes.
The MRCA is still to be decided 100 foreign fighters are coming to IAF...

I say UsA will allow some form of ToT as F-18 is gen behind thr latest now.
So we might see 150+ fighters coming for UsA

be good then the US could turn off the missiles and planes off. Soon India would be America's bitch.

F-18 will burn a lot of fuel and thrust trying to take of from a deck without catapult, also it will have to drastically cut down on it's weapon load juts to be able to get in the air.

Flight deck of that ship is tiny for F-18

let Indian Navy worry about that and regarding run way length of IAC-002, its more than what is required even for Su-33 lets alone F-18 haha,
Indian Navy was satisfied with the Boing Demo for same.

hornet is great if we had a catapult launch system but no so much in ski jump carriers, now there are reports of India and UK possible collaboration in developing CATOBAR carrier but we need to wait on that till UK PM visit next month (I doubt the visit will take place owing to this new covid strain)

He isn't talking about IAC 2 / Vishal but for Vikramaditya and Vikrant

SH for IN makes sense. Can be delivered quickly and will have commonality with USN.

that is what smart people get for creating things and trusting evil retards to use them. Retards spread the technology to the enemies of the smart people. Smart people cannot live with retards. People are not the same.
