Bought it in 1985 and kept running even after every panel was dented. The diesel engine never died. It would just leave trail of smoke behind for the green lobby to complain. Servicing was dead cheap. I travelled UK and parts of Western Europe in this snazzy car. I even slept in it.

That looks like an E-class coupe. The S class coupe does not have the split in the window behind the door.

Yes, indeed you are right. The one I had back in 1990s had round lights and was saloon. They still handle the same way as 1990s models.

Nah. I think the previous iteration was better. By mid 1990s I think MB quality began to slip.

MB 190E from 1980s were joy. By the time I could afford to buy them they stopped making them. It was a car TDf.

i actually considered volvo as well, a friend of mine use it. V60, it has extremely well fuel economy.

Very strong car. Built like a tank. Try to look for an all-inclusive. I have an acquaintance who has a Volvo V60. Leather interior, seat heating, navigation etc. It is a very complete and beautiful car. Most cars in this category aren't bad choices. They fit your bill.mich better.

If you want a true fuel effient and good on your wallet car go for a hybrid.

Back in late 1990s I had a E-class Merc but it handled like a ship. The Beemers handle like they are stuck on rails ...

The one I had back in 1990s had round lights and was saloon.

That design was made famous by Clarkson for his comment about the surprised look of its headlights and a certain yellow colored fruit and the car's rear end I believe.

Guys i am planning to buy second hand car (2015/2016), and i am leaning towards BMW 3 series (saloon) and Mercedes A class. If any one have experience with both cars can you tell which one is better with fuel economy and is easy to maintain/ easy on wallet.

If you can get a Brand new Hyundai (I-30 or Elantra) in same price, go for it. A trouble free Second hand European car maybe hard to find sometimes.

Side note, Canada absolutely destroys cars. All the snow and then all that weird dirt mixtures they put on the roads. They rust like there's no tomorrow. Nowadays they coat the bottom, but that doesnt last long.

One of my neighbors down the block he is in his late 70s and early 80s owns a Peugeot 505 he bought it in like the early 1980s when Peugeot use to sell cars in the States it works fine for a 35 plus year car but she is very smokey Peugeot stopped selling here in the 1990s but Fiat and Alfa Romeo have came back to North America thanks to Fiat buying out Chrysler
