Cars are very nicely maintained here in Europe and most of the people use for it for work purposes. I am only concerned about the reliability and fuel economy since i am gonna commute quite much.
@bold, the crown princeTo be fair same applies to MBs, Audi's. The only issue I had was last year the auto caused some problem.
Buy Audi A4 instead of BMW or Mercedes

Buying a 2-3 years old car is really a smart thing to do because most of depreciation occurs in the first three years and afterwards it stays pretty much the same depending on the condition. Rather, I have friend in USA who only buy 3-4 years old car, repairs it (if needed) and sells at a higher price than the purchasing price. BMWs are reliable and 2-3 old are in pretty decent condition generally.First of all mileage, mileage, mileage. That's the main thing that dictates price. Now considering its 2-3 years older, it should have a millage of about 70,000 or less. Nothing higher. Secondly none of these cars are gonna be easy on the wallet. The service is what's gonna get ya. Also I've been told to stay away from secondhand mercs, BMW, or any of those luxury cars. They tend to come with a lot of issues. If you really want one, save up for a new one. My 2 cents.
Oh ya, that's a given, always buy used cars, it's just that some are better then others.Buying a 2-3 years old car is really a smart thing to do because most of depreciation occurs in the first three years and afterwards it stays pretty much the same depending on the condition. No idea about Germany but in UK Merc E200s are not for 'low income' family unless they buy a old cronk. It would fit more in middle income bracket car. As I said I had one in 1997-2000. It was nice, spacious but handled like ship.2013 saloon E200 is ideal car for low income families

The ride was extremely smooth but around bends when pressed it would wallow about. UK is not like USA. Most roads are twisty and narrow. So it was not great fun driving it. Although the front hood with MB tri-star looked amazing.Ship or spaceship
I am a huge Audi fan. They are built like a tank and extremely powerful. However, all of these cars are built on the same principle. These are luxury brands. They aren't cheap even second hand. If the mileage is low they are obviously more expensive.
However, I must admit that almost every brand nowadays produces generally speaking quality cars. Japanese, South Korean, European and American. It will be quite hard to spot an unattractive car as design has become so refined and improved.
Guys i am planning to buy second hand car (2015/2016), and i am leaning towards BMW 3 series (saloon) and Mercedes A class. If any one have experience with both cars can you tell which one is better with fuel economy and is easy to maintain/ easy on wallet.
