BMW 3 Series or Mercedes A class

Disagree. When you say 'dull' which car are you benchmarking it against?
F30 to the .. .
Benchmarked it against Cadillac ATS, C300 and Alfa Romeo Giulia... the Giulia drives circles around all of them at 70mph with the ATS not far behind.
The F30 series is NOT a drivers car.

Most of the cars you mentioned are American I have no experiance with them. The Giuliais pretty and handles but AR have terrible reliability and value drop like bag of spuds.

Not the current gen. Recent surveys show both BMW and Merc have similar or worse reliability issues.
Oddly enough, if not for the front wheel drive swishing even the current generation accord in its high end form sprints to 60 in 5.5 seconds.

Alfa Romeo Giulia is selling pretty well here these days I like it better than the Ghibli

The ride was extremely smooth but around bends when pressed it would wallow about. UK is not like USA. Most roads are twisty and narrow. So it was not great fun driving it. Although the front hood with MB tri-star looked amazing.
As I'm getting older and more involved with work and business so I really find driving a tedious and unnecessary so leaning in favour of comfort.

Guys i am planning to buy second hand car (2015/2016), and i am leaning towards BMW 3 series (saloon) and Mercedes A class. If any one have experience with both cars can you tell which one is better with fuel economy and is easy to maintain/ easy on wallet.
I've had a Mercedes C320, BMW 5 series, Audi A4, and I currently have a BMW 3 series...my advice is steer away from German cars. They are amazing in quality and fun to drive but they take a toll on ur wallet when it's time for repairs. If all u r looking for is good fuel economy, easy to maintain and easy on ur wallet...I would recommend sticking with Toyota/Honda.
It's question of pesonal choice. I would go for BMW 3 but then I am biased. I own a black BMW 3 series coupe and love it. It handles like a razor on ice and reliability is rock solid. I was going to replace last year but it has been so reliable that I will wait for this summer to buy another Beemer. Either a 4 series or 6 series.
I would recommend 6 series based on personal experience...and just like u I'm also biased towards beemers :p:

One of my tall friends had 3 series, his height used to make it hard for him to drive. If you haven't, try out 3 series first then decide.

A-class is not exactly meant as your primary vehicle. It is well, somewhat sporty for some occasions kind of vehicle.

If you are looking for a primary vehicle, go for 3-series. Its a driver's car for a reason. Its a fun car, decently fuel efficient and best is BMW's maintenance contract that comes with it. If you can get a deal with some warranty left on the car, even better. If you can purchase some warranty, do it without any further thought. The expense of maintaining a BMW out of warranty is massive.

If you want another beautiful car for some occasions, go for A-class.

If you would rather like to be in backseat, then I will say neither is great. I am partial towards japanese cars in that class. To be honest, I like Toyota Camry there but it is associated with 'Taxi' image so hard that its a no-go.

I'm on my third 3 series, absolutely love them. I've had the E36, E46 and am currently on the E90 model. I plan to run it into the ground before I upgrade.

I've driven Audis, Seats and Toyotas before, nothing feels as fun to drive as a beamer does.

Mercedes do make excellent cars, I've had two different types of the CLS as hire cars for extended periods and they were lovely to drive (rear wheel drive ftw!), but my beamers felt just as fun in terms of handling (the hire cars were a lot more powerful).

It depends on what you want. The A class is a hatchback so it's more practical, but if that's not a concern, get a 3 series.

Was thinking of buying a E46 3 Series second hand car, around 8 years ago but then when I get to the dealer, I ended up looking at used Lexus. And never lay eye on another Beemer again.

Then I was trying to get rid of my old Volvo S40 last year, have around $70,000 to spend, I went to look at Mercedes C-Class, ended up test driving a Toyota 86, but in the end I did not get neither and still driving my 12 years old Volvo, that was last year...

both are crap and if 4 year or older be prepared to spend half of your salary on repairs, go buy a brand new Toyota and you will be happy for next 10 years. 3 Series and A class are not status symbol but only shows a wanna be status.

The Mercedes A-Cass feels like a toy to drive, you wouldn't enjoy it unless you were a first time driver or a female. It's interior is made cheaply, the engine isn't good but it's cheap on insurance. The drive has no gravity and the steering is light. I don't know anyone who likes it.

The BMW 3 series is a much better car than the A-Class. The drive is closer to the road, the steering is solid and the engine is great. The downside is the interior isn't great and it quite an ugly car, unless you go for a coupe with a fully loaded m-spec package. It's cheap to run, with good MPG and the insurance isn't bad.

With either of these cars you won't be spending much on servicing, tyres and maintenance.

Don't buy Mercedes for the brand name. You will regret it.

.
buy a Mercedes E class 2014-2015 ..... bmw3 and MercedesA MercedesC sucks

I am considering to buy Mercedes E Class 2016 or newer model as I do not want to pay ULEZ (new daily charge soon to be introduced in London)

The alternative option is Volvo V90 depending on the deal I can get

Normally i dont indulge in this topic.

But BMW is a grease monkey automobile(Sorry in advance to the turks reading this).

Why dont you Go for a car which is more akin to your Character?

No idea where you live but a thumb rule is always to buy local for practical purposes.
