anyway coming back to H1B - there is no chance in heck that H1B requirement can be reduced or eliminated. Atleast under H1B the workers are physically in the USA, pay taxes in the USA and do not get retirement benefits. I think they do not also get any social security / medicare benefits as they are long gone (or naturalized) before retirement age.

If H1B is eliminated, a majority (but not all) such jobs will simply be moved offshore - meaning no taxes to the USA and money simply going out.

But most importantly it is absolutely true that we do not have sufficient number of correctly qualified people atleast in IT to stop H1B.

I work for One of the Top Digital Agencies in the World.....These guys dont even know how tough it is to hire good Technology folks.....H1B program is going nowhere?

Reducing the H1 visas will automatically raise the price of American citizens in the market. Indians are derailing the price by offering cheap Indians.

I find that very hard to believe. You probably mean tough to find cheaper hires. There are numerous stories of hardworking Americans being laid-off and training their cheaper Indian counterparts on h-1b visas.

Not true my friend....In a global environment, the jobs that are out there within the IT space is not your typical 10 to 5 Job!...I work on data analytics and I know that Right from an Associate level to Director/VP level the difference is really 10 to 15 Percent on comp for a US cit to a H1B candidate.....As you know to days work space is at will employment, that means its easier to let go a US citizen than a H1B candidate..If you let go a H1B candidate, the company is responsible for a lot of other expenses as well.(Relocating the person back)....Again here I am not talking about mama papa shops...I am taking abot the Deloitte, Accenture etc of the world.....A good example the average salary of a Developer in my company makes around 110K plus bonus plus benefits(Both US and Non US citizens).....and a DOT makes the same as well.(around 200K upto 300K depending on domain expertise)....NO ONE IS LAYING OFF HARD WORKING AMERICANS...Here the word is "HARD WORKING"..... Your Technical skills need to evolve to succeed ..thats my 2 cents.

All I meant to say was there just aren't enough well qualified techies that are up on current and emerging technologies and so USA will continue getting people from wherever they can get them. India is a source and a big source.
