It was not the govt's job to provide security for Benazir. She was an ex premier who was coming back to the country on her own. The govt should have stuck to their plan of shipping her by a helicopter to the site of her convention. Any deviation from that program and the govt should have threatened to walk away and not to provide security. But they succumbed to the pressure and guess what----.

The longer the distance from point A to point B and on top of that speeds below 5 mph of the moving target is a dream come true for a suicide bomber.

Is this woman Benazir so stupid---are her party members equally less intelligent----they just escaped death by a whisker and instead of acknowledging their mistake, they are blatantly blaming the government for that---specially Sherry Rahman.

This is Musharraf's 3rd big mistake in a row.

Salim----Benazir won't get any mileage out of this incidence. She is done for good. America made another mistake by accepting her support. They should have stuck with Musharraf and should have carried him through.

KARACHI: A suicide bombing in a crowd welcoming former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto killed 130 people Thursday night, shattering her celebratory procession through Pakistan’s biggest city after eight years in exile.

Interior Ministry has confirmed 70 deaths in the attack.

Two explosions struck near a truck carrying Bhutto, but she was not injured and was hurried to her house, police and officials of her party said.

Officials at six hospitals in Karachi reported 130 dead and about 550 wounded, making it one of the deadliest bombings in Pakistan’s history.

Leaving the airport, Bhutto refused to use a bulletproof glass cubicle that had been built atop the truck taking her to the tomb of Pakistan's founding father, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, to give a speech. She squeezed between other party officials along a railing at the front.
Her procession had been creeping toward the center of Karachi for10 hours, moving at a snail's pace while dancing and cheering supporters swarmed around the truck, when a small explosion erupted near the front of the vehicle. That was quickly followed by a larger blast just feet from the truck, setting an escorting police van on fire and breaking windows in Bhutto's vehicle. Party members on top of the truck scrambled to the ground, one man jumping while others climbed down a ladder or over the side.

The former premier had just gone to a downstairs compartment in the truck for a rest when the blast occurred, an eyewitness said.

Two PPP leaders Begum Abida Hussain and Fauzia Wahab, who were standing at the truck were wounded by splinters.

The party leaders in the truck were transferred to other vehicles and carried to safer places.

Medical emergency was declared at Jinnah and Civil Hospitals of Karachi immediately after the blast.

At least 44 bodies among many whose only body parts were recovered were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. In Civil Hospital 33 bodies and 91 wounded were shifted, while bodies 42 bodies were taken to Liaquat National Hospital. Moreover, four dead bodies and 93 wounded were taken Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and a body and 55 wounded persons were admitted at Aga Khan Hospital.

Appeals for blood donations have been made to meet blood requirement for large number of the injured.

Police officer Raja Umer Khitab said evidence at the scene suggested it was a suicide bombing. He said it destroyed two police vans escorting Bhutto's truck.'' He said the legs and head of the suicide bomber has been found.

CCPO Azhar Farooqui talking to Geo News said a man tried to move towards the vehicle when he was stopped, he blown himself.

Ministry of Interior Spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema has said over 70 deaths have been confirmed. He said a new strategy would be made for movement of Benazir Bhutto in the country.

The US and NATO cannot stop suicide bombers!

This is about reforming societies, and changing hearts and minds - our people cannot even decide if we should "fight" our "terrorist Muslim Brothers".

We forget that NATo and US are not operating in their own countries. Since 9-11 no major or minor event has taken place in USA. Western countries are almost safe from this scale of bombings. We should not draw comparison of our so Security forces' failings with NATO's or USA's. Cos they are battling way out of their homelands. And we cant even make iomportant cities like Karachi safe. Why?? Beacause our own people, in mosques, in army, in intelligence, and so on.. believe that killing innocent people for a bigger objective is acceptable.
I am convinced that we should seek Israel's help in averting these bombers, If we dont wana become next Iraq.

The difference between Pakistan and US is that there are much fewer american jehadis than Pakistanis.

The only way to become "like the US" as far as suicide bombings is concerned is to root out the ideology.

A suicide bomber needs just a brainwashed mind and some RDX. Both very easily obtainable.

No amount of Intelligence gathering will stop suicide bombs if people are hell-bent on blowing themselves up. The only solution is to take away their justification for doing so.

The GoP might as well be trying to provide security in a hostile foreign country, its attempts to remove terrorists in LM were criticized, and it was blamed for "murdering thousands of innocent children", its efforts to strike at the centers of terrorism in FATA are criticized for "killing our Muslim brothers and mujahideen".

No sane muslim disagrees with the "rooting out of reasons and justifications for suicide bombings". But is it really possible?? or is it in the hands of muslims?? NOT AT ALL.

Karachi Blasts: DIG Manzoor Mughal to head investigations

KARACHI: DIG Investigations Police Karachi Manzoor Mughal will head a team that will investigate about bomb attack over Pakistan Peoples Party’s rally at Sharea Faisal Karachi.

Chief investigator Manzoor Mughal has said he was 100 percent sure that the incident was a suicide attack but the concluding findings would only decide the matter.

KARACHI: The chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has vehemently condemned the bomb blasts at PPP rally in Karachi on Thursday night.

In a statement he said this dastardly act on the part of anti-state element is highly deplorable.

Altaf Hussain termed this incident of terrorism as a national tragedy. He sympathised with the PPP Chairperson and leaders and workers of the PPP.

MQM chief also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of those who suffered injuries.

He called upon the authorities to grant exemplary punishment to those involved in this act of terrorism.

BB was elected by people confirming all legal requirements, wishing her death is not the ideal way. If you dont agree to her policies vote against her next time. If everbody wishes people whom they dont support death, then even god wont be able to save Pakistan.

Killing is never justified but BB is the reason so many innocent people have been killed. Her party actually took oridinary pakistani worker giving them 500 each to participate in the relly, so its her fault when the government told her not to come on 18th and when she did, they also said that dont prolong the rally, its dangerous yet she decided to go on, obiviously she wasnt afraid as she was on a bulletproof truck but what about the people who died. God bless us all, from these leaders, from the ones that kill innocent people.
