BJP : Only Hindi is India's Official Language

Hindi belt creates the majority in India. And in a democracy majority is more important.
And if they include Tamil then they should also include thousand other local languages which is totally impractical. So Hindi is the only option.

It's India, the country with the largest diversity in the World. There are certain things that cannot be enforced. You will just have to learn to live with that.

modern state transport buses have boards in two or even 3 languages, its just the local ones which don't write more than 1 language...

Yes, when there is a nation then a national language is required. English is after all a foreign language, it can't be a perfect substitute to the Indians.

Hindi and English are the official languages for communication in India. It is so, more because of the practicality than ethnicity.
States of India have been created mainly in the lines of linguistic identity. All the states have the lib1erty to specify their own official language and we have 22 of them in India. Since India is a country with so much of diversity, hence it is not possible to define a single language for the country.

At least one Indian language must be used Nationally, when ever i go to a different state i cant read the bus boards as they are in their local language...

English is the accepted language of India.

My Tamil co worker told me that if India force Hindi on Tamils. Tamils will seek independence. Is that true.

I think its no wrong. There is no law that makes knowing Hindi compulsory for joining central govt. No need to add all languages as official languages. For all practical purposes, Hindi and English as official languages, makes common sense.

Is the official constitution of India in English or Hindi? Which ever is official is the de facto national language of India.

English is the official language of India to many South Indians. If two Indians with different backgrounds get together, the expected communication medium would be English.

What's an "official constitution", and how is it different from any unofficial constitution?

The Indian constitution (there is only one) is written and available in every recognized national language of India.

We really don't need advice from a self loathing Chinese fellow who pretends to be American. Not even from a real American, for that matter.

Thank you for pointing out that the language that rule India is the English language.

The constitution as pointed out in the post after you is officially in English. As you stated, the constitution can be in any of Indian language. But the interpretation of it is in English language in the Indian court. This in effect mean that if there are any discrepancies in how a word means in the court between Hindi and English, the English interpretation trumps the Hindi meaning. This also mean the language that rule India is English, not Hindi or any other language. in regardless of the status of any particular language.
