Bangladeshis depend on India for many things but losing sovereignty is very difficult to accept because it was India which played crucial role to create Bangladesh. Bangladesh can be under Indian union along with Nepal and Bhutan but religious extremism from both sides won't let it happen. Bangladeshis are far more strict type Muslims than Pakistanis these days and having an union with Hindu Bengal (West Bangla) or India as a whole is out of question for Bangladeshis. Bangladesh is mainly for Bengali Muslims and West Bangla is mainly for Bengali Hindus. Bengali Muslims are mainly converts from Buddhism. Hinduism and Buddhism had conflict in Bengal. Islam came to dominate Bengal over Buddhism. Bengali Buddhists got converted to Islam but Hindus remain more or less same. Bangladeshis and Indian Bengalis will never merge with each other because of religious mistrust between two sides of Bengal.

To hell with fake surveys. Bangladeshis are two types. Islamist Bangladeshis are very radical type people. Liberal, secular type Muslims of Bangladesh are becoming minority in Bangladesh. I am one of them. I am very proud Muslim, really, a practicing Muslim but day by day Islamist Bangladeshis are increasing. Pakistanis, Afghans are nothing in front of Bangladeshi extremists. I always try to stay away from these type of Bangladeshis.

You know why Burqa clad women are increasing in Bangladesh? It is because slowly the nation is becoming religious state. Saudi Arabia has funded 500 model mosques in Bangladesh. Lot of Madrasas are in operation in Bangladesh. America, England, Canada has a LOT of Bangladeshi extremists. ISIS has lot of Sylheti Bangladeshis. They are affecting image of Bangladeshis in global platform.

Bangladeshis are far more religious than Pakistanis. This is not 1971. This is 2019.

Why do you think an inter-relationship between Hijab and Islam? In the case of Bengali Muslim women, it was Burqa, Urni and Ghomta (a way of hiding face with a part of Aanchal). Even Hindu women used Ghomta, now may not be that prevalent. Hijab is a new introduction to BD. So, why do you think it is relevant? The relevant point is to dress loosely but not without showing face.

Jai Bangla is glorifying undivided Indian Bengal. There is nothing Bangladeshi about it. BDs should rather discard this altogether. And jai sri ram is glorifying a mythical figure. All Hindus dont follow same religious rhetoric. For example Ram followers are traditional Northies. Imposing Ram slogan on Bengalis mean slow and steady encroachment of Northies on present day Indian Bengalis, similar to takeover by earlier Hindus who imposed Durga culture on local Bengali Hindus. In BD Sri Ram adherents are traditional sweepers migrated during British time. WB has significant high intellectuals compared to BD. If Ram adherents take over WB, Bengali intellectualism will degrade itself. It will be easier for BD to impose cultural hegemony on west bengalis, easier deals with India sidelining west bengalis. Which isnt possible at present. WB dont posses any benefit to BD presently. Hasina should send more of her assests to take down Mamata

Also there is a largely unknown but quite flawed assumption in thinking NSDP is exact same as GDP esp when using say nominal USD or even PPP (but also just standard INR reference)....and then comparing to other countries based on that.

Tons of companies are registered and pay taxes in the states they finally export/import from (where the ports/biggest frontier cities are) which influences the exchange rate the most....and also distorts the base presence of countable rupee liquidity (say for bombay compared to say interior UP city) compared to actual production/wealth when it comes to NSDP. i.e think if 70% of value additition done for a product done in UP, but its only accounted as near 100% exported from its final appearance in Bombay...so its production is skewed towards MH NSDP compared to UP NSDP. Not to mention whole equivalent of GDP vs GNP issue also arises internally for NSDP (i.e internal migrants to other parts of India and how their production/wealth gets accounted).

India should (down the road, if it matters enough for better social dev targetting) look for an internal PPP style metric to use that takes account of this better compared to NSDP. GST however will also kick in more and provide better calibration by itself for NSDP for this issue over time I feel though. Let's see.

Pakistan kept the spirit of Pakistan alive, our ethnic groups sacrificed their hegemony in the name of the nation and religion.

No, considering the politics of those days and people's sentiment, it was not possible to make two countries in 1947 on the basis of two-nation theory based on religion. Moreover, other than a few Vadera in the west, most of the population were not hating Bengali Muslims only because we are not as handsome as Pathan-Punjabis are. There was quite a goodwill for west Pakistanis in the east as well, especially for the Pathans.

Only your Vaderas and their scissions did not like east because here we had successfully abolished Zamindary system. They were fearing their own demise within the framework of united Pakistan once an east Pakistan-based party comes to power.

I do not think any leader in the east could have saved himself after uttering "Pakistan M*rdabad" in public. We both felt we were Pakistanis. Even, Mujib did not declare independence in his 7 March speech. Whatever may Hasina Bibi tells now, he actually finished his speech with "Joi Pakistan". It was a message for a united Pakistan.

In his speech, he also stated, "Janab Yahya Khan Sahab, you are the President of the country. Come and see what your Fouj are doing here". It was also a clear political message that his PAL will retain him as the President when it forms the govt. Actually, only a very limited few of his follower leaders were in favor of complete separation.

However, that Kazilbush Yahya Khan and ZA Bhutto made things easy for those PAL hawks.

They speak a more 'urban' accent of Bangla and we speak 'rural' accent of Bangla with many Arabic loan words but all Bengalis are one irrespective of religion.

Bangladesh will have a very strategic location if this becomes the map of Bangladesh and entire north east become independent states. Imagine how much you could earn from all these lands locked states including Bhutan Nepal for beaches tourism, even Chinese will go there. Not to mention the shipping transport.

BD has a long term plan and the Indians have secretly agreed to it as they had no choice since W Bengal and NE states are not developing!

That is to bring West Bengal, NE states, Nepal and Bhutan under it's economic orbit.

BD will be the centre of this 300-350 million population economic region and so BD industrialists will have a pretty large "home" market to grow their industries before even needing to think about exports.
