Bimaru states make India poorer than Pakistan, says World Bank report

Social scientist Devender Kumar said, “India is densely populated than its South Asian neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, Pakistan and more. Bangladesh and Pakistan came into existence only after the partition, while others already existed.” Subsequently, the poverty calculation methodology indices will be based on the population of the country and naturally less for those that are low on population.”

Whole bloody nation believe as if they were the rulers of the lands called India before 15th August 1947. These peasants have not been taught that they were the subjects of British raj of India, a colonial entity.
and even with an almost 2.5 trillion economy they r still giving excuses even in 2018 thats 70 years after their inception, while Pakistan also fought extreme poverty where the int. standard is of 1.90 Dollar per day and a record migration of almost 2 cror people from india to Pakistan, and still after 70 years it turns out our extreme poverty is only 7.9% of our population as of 2011 while their's is 21.2%
All this while Pakistan's currency is even lower then Indian.
@Karna_007

From my reading on this subject I was surprised with two facts. On the objective international standard of $1.90 Pakistan had far lower % in extreme poverty - you know the ribcage sticking out poverty where poverty means you see a breathing skeleton.

But each country also has their own poverty rates. In UK for instance if you don't make $78 a day your are in poverty. In India the government deliberately chose a ridicalously low figure [lower then international standard] to produce false figures making it look like it has less poverty. In Pakistan on the contrary the domestic poverty line has been set higher then international dollar standard giving us higher poverty figure.

Having a artificially low figure might hide the poverty from the outside world - the poor by definition have no voice but it does not help to resolve the issue. On the contrary having the poverty line set higher like in Pakistan causes policymakers to address the problem as opposed to pushing it under the carpet. Examples of this are the $1 billion BISP programme that hands direct cash to the poorest in the country helping the ribcage poor with basics like food etc. This is in fact the first example of the foundations of a welfare state in South Asia.

Agreed. Since then you will have reached all the way to Pluto and we will have been buried in Dead Sea. 7 years ago was not 7000 years ago. It was the same India and Pakistan. Unless Modejee waved a abracadra and your now kissing Norway.
Zindabad Babao!!!!

yr not as big of a fool as i thought u were.

Yup my friend, we all have long way to go across the board. Poverty, development etc really boils down to what you mentioned at the start...definition. It is hard to have good enough definitions and then say those definitions are black and white (when really such things are quite continuous and complex) in countries as large as India and Pakistan. We both need to become much more wealthier and productive to really shift things significantly enough.
then do something abt it, rather then shitting in here, we r not trying to D-grade yr country!

Dont be so sensitive!

Useless exchange of arguments over statistics of poverty here.

1. Poverty measurement approaches vary from country to country. Some countries are using outdated approaches to measure poverty, and Pakistan is one of them. Many are not even tax filers here.

2. A person's fortune is likely to shift from time-to-time. Many do not have a steady source of income. Businesses also fail. These variations influence poverty situation.

3. Given the sheer size of Indian population, its poor will outnumber Pakistani poor in sheer numbers.

I refuse to believe that Pakistan is prosperous in terms of human development. Not in current times.

Pakistan still despite all the shit we faced in last decade have more income equality hence less poverty compared to eastern neighbour.

Poverty reduction can only be done through a multidimensional approach of various governmental , private and civil society institutions.
Reducing poverty by giving money is not a sustainable approach i.e BISP program.
The money could be utilised in creating job's or a source of income from them that way the poverty reduction can be sustainable.

Hyderabad: Making the country the poorest in South Asia, over 270 million people in India live below international poverty lines. India’s poverty rate is around 21.2 per cent which is worse than its neighbour Pakistan (6.1 per cent), a study by the World Bank has revealed.

I did a quick read on this few days ago and it seems to be a tricky subject. How do you draw the line in poverty. In UK you don't own a car and can't afford to go on holiday is poverty. In other parts of the world you can't feed your child less then twice a day is poverty. Then whose measure do you use. Each country and even government lower or raise the lines to suit their agenda. The best one I think is World Banks dollar measure as it gives us a common referance point.

These numbers are essentially extreme poverty where a person cannot afford 2100 calories daily. Thats how 1.90 USD PPP is used as a poverty line.

New article based on 2016 report which was reporting 2011 data.

The source of this data is this :
http://iresearch.worldbank.org/PovcalNet/povOnDemand.aspx

Needless to say the data is till 2011 mid. No wonder it is reporting 22.3%

then do something abt it

Oh I am, I am involved in school project financing in a number of areas...and hope to make it a long term thing when I have more time (retire etc). Give a man a fish, feed him a day...teach a man to fish, feed him for life etc.

Hope you are doing something for your country too.

rather then shitting in here

Excuse me? @waz

Thus the rather crude term I used "ribcage poverty".
Extreme poverty is less visceral and insulting than 'ribcage poverty'. Infact I have never seen anyone use that term before. Extreme poverty or abject poverty are more or less norm in usage.

The study found that Indian states like Uttar Pradesh (60 lakh), Bihar (36 lakh), Madhya Pradesh (24 lakh), Odisha (14 lakh), Jharkhand (13 lakh), Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh (10 lakh), lead in the number of poor people with low incomes that fall below the international poverty rate. Of the 270 million people that have been categorised below the standard, 70 per cent live in rural Indian and 30 per cent in urban India.

New Delhi should give all the poor states their own independent countries. That way they can be labeled as a rich country instantly. But knowing how these backstabbing instigators work, they wouldn't give up an inch of illegally occupied land. Which makes up most of their ganga gutter territory.
