I related to him what happened to me when I was checking in at a Hotel in NYC - When I gave them my surname he asked me to repeat my surname for him thrice before finally asking me to write it down for him 'cause he couldn't believe that anyone in their right minds could have 'Butt' as their surname !

Jairnal is what is used in common parlance whereas the proper term would probably be Sipah-e-Salar !

I think so; though I also think that because it means Leader of the Army/Soldiers even a Divisional Commander maybe called a Sipah-e-Salar but the Sipah-e-Salar of the Army would be the Chief of Army Staff !

To the best of my knowledge , there isn't any proper translation for Field Marshal in Urdu language , the same Sipah-e-Salar is used for it too .
