Biman will become the South Asian Emirates : Negotiation for four more 787-9s starts

Biman might become a giant in South Asia.

The South Asian Airline industry is witnessing a rising star from Bangladesh. Biman Bangladesh is getting all the attention in South Asia after it acquired the Boeing 787 Dreamliner with two options. The airline is not only witnessing a positive image building across the region but the increase in productivity is also noticed.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines earned a profit of Tk 272 crore in the last fiscal year after incurring a loss in 2017-18 Financial year. State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali announced in July 2019. The airline’s revenue for the fiscal year was 5,791 crore Tk and 5,519 crores TK was cut in expenditures. After the induction of Boeing 787-9s, the airline is increasing the frequency of its high yield routes.

Rapid Expansion
Another news popped up last week that Biman Bangladesh is eyeing for six more aircraft. The new ambition is part of a plan to expand the fleet eventually to become the best airline in Asia. The order is consisting of turboprop Dash 8 Q400 manufactured by Canadian Bombardier. The negotiations will be started between both parties soon. A total of two Dash 8s are expected.

Moreover, Biman is aiming for another four Boeing 787-9. The deferred order from Indian Vistara could be taken by Biman as they are in negotiations with Boeing already to settle a deal. The decision is still pending and Biman is expecting to crack a deal with a lucrative price. Biman has seen a rapid fleet expansion and significant improvement in performance in terms of carrying larger numbers of passengers and earning profits.

Future prospects?
With the current pace on expansion plans, Biman could become the Emirates of the region. The product offered on the Boeing 787 fleet is state of the art. If Biman would sustain such product and service on the majority of its network, with expanding wings to new destinations as well, The chances of Biman becoming the best carrier in South Asia are extremely immense.

well done keep it up and wish the country becomes the asian tiger

once again PIA is not good brand ether they have too much mess and i did not say they will be world class airline in next 20 years . unless we have oil wells and we pay them 10bn$ yearly as aid . no one can defeat ME5 because oil money is being pumped in airlines heavy subsidies airlines with low price jet fuel and even gov hide real balance sheets there . they need names not profits . ettihad is best example
Oil money is not the fault my man. Corruption is. PIA was pride of Pakistan for a reason. Corruption fucked it up. Same with BIMAN Z

The article was by an aviation enthusiast who took the news of Biman being in negotiation to pick up 4 more planes and got carried away.

I certainly do not wish for Biman to go the way of Emirates which is losing money hand over fist.

Biman needs to leverage BD diaspora demand and grow reasonably. It should also be privatised as a matter of priority. GOB should not under any circumstances subsidise it. With a new set of planes it will be investable in a manner that it was not the last time privatisation was tried.
the real news is biman is looking more loans for investing in fleet . these 4 will keep paying the investors for very long time and also they will keep maintaining these 4 too . this is where real problem is . biman better buy 4 old 777s with 40 to 60mn$ each and keep pushing them for next 10 years rather then buying 4 new for 1bn$ and keep paying investor for next 10 years .

moral of story is airlines business is very very tough and its offer very few profits . a little bad move and here you go . private go bankrupt and gov go for bailout

corruption and over staffing political hiring in airlines destroyed it . i wish paksitan sale it ASAP and get rid of it . its not good idea to keep paying them 50bn rupees yearly .

Biman is a strategic asset. Even if financed through loans they with proper management can turn a profit due to massive unmet demand.

However I would hope GOB divests as much ad possible quickly so as not to get into the trap you described

we have same example of same leauge

shaheen air fleet - 22
dest - 27

and it was some 30 year old airline . but when fuel prices increased they bit the dust . its same size as biman and it was private airline but owner could not save it to die . because it was not possible . recently so many airlines fall .
there is nothing called staratgic assest sir its false idea . BD gov can buy 4 VVIP gulfstreams cost 40mn$ each and enjoy next 20 years . public will have seats on ME5 and other airlines . i am against this idea personally .

2019 was bad year for bussiness .

We must stop Bangladesh, fastest growing to Walton exporting fridges to EU to now Baiman taking over Emirates....where will all this stop

bigger you are easy you fall just learn from jet airways .they have fleet of 124 airliners and went bankrupt . why ? because 70 of them were on dry lease .you are talking like 5 years old kid they are 5 years leased to us so they are ours too .
I told you not to compare Biman with private airlines. Biman will never go bankrupt as govt. will always bailout it if needed. Nor will Biman return/sale purchased plane. Govt. will repay the loan.

Biman's dry lease involve the 6 smaller plane, so even if Biman return those plane for some unexpected reason, it's operability will not face much difficulty. And I have never said Biman own those leased plane. Show me where I said that? I said Biman has currently 18 aircraft, which is true. Both purchased and leased. You unnecessarily brought ownership here to dispute my statement. According to your dumb logic, I can not say, Sri lankan Airlines has 26 aircraft. Because all those are leased. Right?

you are more smarter then i thought . if they are leased you have to pay millions of dollars monthly to the owner and what you earn horse d1ck ?and if you not earn anything you will remain biman and not emrates .as expansion need money . yes the same money you are giving to leasers . its simple but it seems you are again in dose of ultra nationalism

it will stop when people start using common sense and come back in present .

Why are you giving so much importance to leased aircraft of Biman when as I have stated, out of 18 plane, six are leased, those six are the smaller plane. So lease installment is not overwhelming for Biman. And most of the airlines in the world use leased aircraft. Some airlines even have most or all of their aircraft leased. Yet they make profit and expand. I do not know why are you so eager to predict the doom for Biman. Although it is now improving in small yet steady steps.

its full fleet info of BD are these 6 small planes ? no they did not make profit to even buy new buses let alone aircrafts after you pay leasing amount for example a-320/737 leased on 250000$ + fuel +ground services+ground staff+onboard staff+overflying charges+airport parking and landings takeoff charges+hoteling and overstaying +catering+ maintenance +A&D checks +Parts +taxes - and then you have to think what to do remaining 5000$:cheesy:

These are even smaller plane leased. Only 74 seat each. And Biman has no problem paying installment of these small planes.

So tell me where I was wrong?

not gov but airline will pay from its revenues . if airlines failed then gov will pay so all these planes earn will go to banks and leasing companies . which money you will use to buy 230 more airlines for became emirates ?
as biman is 300 airliners airline ? leased one are almost half of its fleet and 40% of its seating capacity but you are just arguing for sake of argument . dear i have wasted my life in this and i will told you biman will be biman even in 2050 . you may look its as brand but no sane mind sitting in south asia will ever think to go london via dahaka . as i know there is no transit terminal in dahaka too . this airline is just a joke but you guys are over reacting here even you know it .an airline which if sale everything of it will be 250mn$ .

4 leased B737 has seating capacity 162x4=648
2 leased Dash-8 seating capacity 74x2=148
Total =796

Purchased
4 B777 seating capacity 419x4=1676
4 B787-8 seating capacity 271x4=1084
2 B787-9 seating capacity 298x2=596
2 B737 seating capacity 162x2=324
-------------------------------------------
Total = 3680
So out of total 4476 seating capacity 796 involve leasing. How it is 40% ? Or how 6 leased plane(all narrow body) out of 18( 10 widebody) make ''half of the fleet''? In which school you learned maths?

now look again and teach us how many of them on pyroll of others too so we may learn something from you? 12 of them are working to pay owners and 6 of them owned by biman and revenues go to biman accounts . once again mr homo bin sebian al khalifa where goes all the money ? to owners and lessors and mortgages
