Beijing to hold first ever India-China strategic economic dialogue

It's not about gloating, the question I asked above is: What more can you give to us?

Since we already have access to your markets, and a large trade surplus.

"New Delhi: India and China will on 26-27 September hold discussions on doubling bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2015 and ways to plug a yawning trade gap in China’s favour."

"But in areas where India has an edge—including information technology and pharmaceuticals—there are many barriers inhibiting Indian imports into China, Dutta said."

Yes, I love it when politicians have discussions.

But what has the Indian government actually done to reduce the national trade deficit?

From the same article

China was “not listening” to India’s repeated requests for addressing the bilateral trade imbalance, India’s commerce secretary Rahul Khullar told reporters earlier this month.

In view of this, the ministry was working on a specific strategy to discourage unrestricted Chinese imports, particularly of power and telecom equipment, Khullar had said.

The official cited earlier said a high-level meeting to discuss the subject took place on 6 August, where specific measures to correct the skewed trade balance were discussed.

Which specific fields in IT does India have an "edge" in, and how would they work in a country like China, where everyone speaks and reads in Chinese?

It is actually IT enabled services . China maintains trade deficit with India by not allowing import ITeS and pharma. Keep in mind that IT, ITeS and pharma are India's important exports. There is no denying it.

A short guide to protectionism - Telegraph

Recently, China and India have been locked in debate over trade, with India accusing China of expanding overly aggressively into its silk and satin markets. India argues that Chinese prices are so cheap that its key domestic industry is simply unable to compete.

But India has got an edge in cheap labour, since India's average income per capita is several times lower than that of China.

So if you still can't compete on prices, then there must be some serious inefficiencies going on.

labor is only 15% of the added value of most physical products, the rest is in equipment and transportation.

I know buddy, but the Indians always love to go on about how they can't compete with China, because we have "cheap labour". :azn:

China is still 10 times behind Japan and USA. We are also behind much more.

We should focus more with developed countries rather than developing country.

China's Manufacturing Jobs Moved Overseas - TIME

There you go. India may be next 'factory of the world'

Buddy you have a VERY long way to go, just check the data.

The crown of the "largest manufacturer" once belonged to the British Empire, who then passed it to America.

America held the title of largest manufacturer for 100 years, before recently passing it to China.

China has become the world’s top manufacturing country by output, returning the country to the position it occupied in the early 19th century and ending the US’s 110-year run as the largest goods producer.

Financial Times - China noses ahead as top goods producer

Why we are buying from China ? I don't know a single item like Nike or Microsoft. All are cheap items for small purpose because they are cheap.

We should focus more on Quality. It may not be cheap, But life will be 100 times more.

Not only labour. Chinese items are cheapest, That's why they export more. But Quality is pathetic.

You buy any Chinese item, it will die after 2-3 use.

Don't know about raw material, steel.. But about product, I never buy any Chinese item, no matter how cheap they are.

A Chinese shoe will cost 5$, Nike 100$.....I can give Guarantee, Nike is 100 time better than Chinese shoe.

Yeah, our goods are "cheap and low quality".

China's exports in 2010 - 1.5 trillion

India's GDP in 2010 - 1.5 trillion

Yet our "cheap and low quality" products, are worth more than the entire Indian GDP. :azn:

It doesn't matter. You post everyday same thing as copy-paste.

Even, Your GDP will reach 100 trillion $ and we will remain at 1.7 trillion $, Still Chinese items will be worst. Ask anyone in any country.

Japanese products are best, even their GDP growth is 0%. What GDP has to do with Quality ?
