'Beijing-Dhaka ties will be substantially damaged if Bangladesh joins Quad'

Well done buddy, while some of our well-wishers were fearful of repercussions for BD, you called this one correctly:

"Chinese Ambassador Li Jiming explained his recent remarks on Wednesday to Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen when they met at the state guest house Padma after the vaccine handover ceremony.

“He said he did not mean to harm ties between the two countries”, the foreign secretary told The FE after the meeting.

The Chinese ambassador also termed his remarks as ‘out of context’, Mr Masud said."

Bhais, give me some credit too...

I was first to call it, in detail.

🥺🥺🥺🥺

Joining QUAD is a military commitment between the members and associate members. QUAD is becoming another NATO of Asia. Joining it means, BD must allow the member countries' troops, logistics, and provisions to Indian NE through its land and water.

China will certainly not see it as a friendly gesture, and India will take advantage of this and play double and interfere in BD affairs. We need India as a friend but should not allow it to interfere in our affairs. If so, we become a part of Greater India.

So, BD must avoid this QUAD at any cost. However, the issue is Hasina Bibi. She was brought up in India by its former President Pranab Mukherjee. This is why she is quite capable to sell her country.

US takes note of China envoy’s comment on Quad to Bangladesh

Star Digital Report

The US has taken note of the statement of Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming that Dhaka's relations with Beijing will "substantially get damaged" if it joins Quad, a US-led initiative meant to ensure free and open Indo-Pacific.
"Well, we have taken note of that statement from the PRC ambassador to Bangladesh. What we would say is that we respect Bangladesh's sovereignty, and we respect Bangladesh's right to make foreign policy decisions for itself," said Ned Price, US State Department Spokesman, in a media briefing today.

He said the US has an incredibly strong relationship with Bangladesh and both the countries work closely with partners on a range of issues, from economic growth to climate change to humanitarian issues.
"And when it comes to the Quad, we've said this before, but the Quad, it's an informal, essential, multilateral mechanism that right now conveys – convenes likeminded democracies – the United States, India, Australia, and Japan – to coordinate in the Indo-Pacific, and fundamentally, to push forward our goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific region."
His remarks come after the Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka on May 10 said Quad is a military alliance aiming against China's resurgence and its relationship with neighbours.

The ambassador said Quad is a "narrow-purposed" geopolitical clique, and Bangladesh should not join it as the country will not derive any benefit from the initiative.
"History has proved again and again such partnership surely damages our neighbours' own social, economic development and people's well-being," Ambassador Li said.

what you described is indecisiveness. they are brainstorming what to do. my best wishes because the two sides are NOT going to wait forever and playing middle of the road is the absolutely worst choice.
What i find hilarious is that some of them are expecting the chinese to apologize lol.

China does not even say sorry to Europe and USA over greater issues. And yet they will apologise to BD.😃

Waiting paitently for that apology. Wont count it unless it is an offcial statement by the chinese Foreign minister or embassy or the ambassdor calls a press conference.

sad, the yanks will NEVER spend a penny unless they can leverage a deal that holds the host hostage, so If that is what they seek then maybe China should say sorry. :toast_sign:

Damage to ties with Bangladesh was not the goal here but show off of Chinese influence

Currently China is a global international pariah for the Covid crisis and the Chinese "wolf eating warrior" diplomat was looking for a quick self goal

The CCP diplomat knew Bangladesh would not entertain joining QUAD and warned them against it . The goal being to take for credit for Bangladesh's independent choice of not joining QUAD in the future

These diplomatic gaffes are not new to CCP
Classic Mao mouth cannon tactics when its comes to diplomacy

Back in the day, Mao was insecure to Soviet influence during Suez crisis

Mao threatened the British that he would take over Hong Kong, if the British don't hasten the withdrawal

Brits already saw Chinese as bunch of opium guzzling degenerates
and threatened nuclear retaliation

UK pondered China nuclear attack

After British threat, Mao's mouth disappeared faster than Chinese self -worth during Japanese occupation of Nanking

Don't be surprised if there some Chinese warnings tomorrow for India not to join NATO or five eyes and bunch of wumaos celebrating India did not join NATO because of Chinese warnings
Yes

But China does have Hong Kong. So what is your point exactly?

Opium guzzling Chinese brought the British to the negotiation table, took over Hong Kong peacefully. No British died no Chinese died.

If BD can make the Chinese ambassador come to the BD media and correct his statements or at least make the Chinese embassy in BD officially correct its statement---- Then it shows apology.

Otherwise, Bd minister parroting words shows that the Chinese ambassador meant every word he said, and Mr. Momen is out in damage control mode to save the govt face.

Time will tell which is it.

In foreign countries. If a Foreign ambassador makes stupid remarks, the Ambassador clears the air ,either by press conference or by an official statement from the embassy. The host minister of the host country does not run around correcting the ambassadors statement and clearing air. The host minister only condemns the idiotic statement.
I don't have time to deal with bhakt bed-wetters in Ramzan. Thanks. :-)

What is it with bhakts and their never-ending paranoia about Bangladesh turning Jamati ??
Jamat is a non entity now in BD.

Islamists will never come to power in BD.

Awami league and India are shooting ghosts. While the Chinese pull the rug from underneath their feet.

It is the ideal choice provided BD can sell the neutrality. but how will they sell that to the Chinese when awami league is in power? The same party the has a reputation of being very close to India?

Either Awami league has to purge the pro india elements in the party or they will have to step down. This is the only way BD can sell neutrality. Else sooner or later, they will be forced to choose.

The Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, Li Jiming, has offered apology for his remarks regarding the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen confirmed the matter to The Business Standard on Wednesday.

I have checked and There is NO Apology from Li Jiming either on the Chinese Embassy website or else where. When did this guy FM Momen became a Chinese Embassy spokesman??  ...... Honestly, BD is making one mistake after another. IT IS NOT GOING TO END WELL.

Relax , I don't know how you come to a conclusion it's not going to go well when in the end the China and Bangladesh will get along anyways due to economic and military reasons this isn't MUH HUH WW3 BANGLADESH JOINING QUAD.

.

The BD FM is the only one saying china has apologised. The Chinese have not said anything officially yet. Unless an official said in front of media or via an official statement the apology does not count. The ambassador must go on record to apologise. A Chinese govt official must go one record with the apology, just like a chinese official went on record with their " Don't join QUAD" statement. We are only hearing the gospel of FM Momen, the BD nation and the world wants to hear the gospel of Chinese amabassador in BD or MOF china regarding this issue . so where is he?

Why is BD has a desparate need to clear the air with China? Clearly the chinese are in no need to clear the air with BD, because its the BD FM who is working over time to clear the air in this issue, while the chinese ambassador is napping.Because right now the statements the BD FM is making, ARE the statements that the official spokesman from chinese MOF or embassy in Dhaka should be saying, not the BD FM.

So why is BD so desparete to clear the air with china, while china cant be bothered to lift a finger? This shows signs of one sided relationship. That BD needs China more than CHina needs BD. This is the bad news...

why has FM Momen been demoted from the status of minister to the status of CCP bot?

I think if Awami league is removed. Indian proxies in BD will get to work. IA will come in to secure its interests pre-emptively and put their proxies in power
Nare bhai eto power oder nai. Ora just media terrorism kore chetona gelo chetona gelo desh Pakistan hoye gelo eisob bolbe. Deshe ganjam badhabe.

Besides if China will remain our ally China can counter proxy war too that India will try to impose.
