Bangladesh will send 10,000 male and female workers to Macau every year after imparting two months training on Cantonese and English language, sources in the Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry said on Saturday.

Macau, an archipelago near Hong Kong, will recruit housemaids, security guards, hotel boys, bell boys and construction workers from Bangladesh, sources added.

The employees on an average willbe given wages of $480 per month each along with medical and insurance facilities.

The workers will not need to pay migration cost at the time of their departure. They can pay it from their salary in installments.

Around one lakh foreign workers, mainly Chinese, Indonesian, Filipinos and Nepalese have been working in Macau,a favorite spot for overseas tourists.

Dr Jafar Ahmed Khan, Secretary of Expatriate Welfare and overseas employment, told The New Nation that it is for the first time, Macau authority has shown keen interest in recruiting a large number of Bangladeshi male and female workers.

"We will keep vigil so that female workers are not victimized or harassed sexually," he added.

A high-powered Bangladesh idelegation visited Macau last month and held talks with the human resources division of that country for sending workers, said Begum Shamsun Nahar, Director General (DG) of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET).

A delegation of that county will visit here shortly to provide a curriculum for training for the workers and afterwards, the circular will be published in different media for the recruitment of workers, DG, BMET, said.

Employment figure of Bangladesh ifemale workers in foreign countries is going up as government is exploring new job markets in different countries and taking various initiatives, Naharsaid.

"It will require around US $1,500 to send each worker to Macau and the cost would be paid by the workers infive installments to the recruiting agencies of that country," said Selim Reza, additional DG of BMET, who visited Macau from June 18 to 20 as a leader of Bangladesh delegation.

He submitted a proposal to the expatriate welfare ministry giving priority to select female housekeepers from ethnic groups of different districts including Khagrachari, Bandarban, Rangamati, Mymensingh, Gazipur, Sherpur and Gopalganj.

I have faith in my country still. Especially, now--considering how bad it used to be. I am not affected by random comments by obscure internet trolls--just not that insecure.

Anyway, i am taking things slow this month. You can abuse all you want--just dont expect much in return.

You don't have an Industrial Base to speak off. You can't even make Sewing Machines.

LOL.

Shipbuilding and pharmaceuticals are taking off now.

Building a ship is much more complicated than a simple sewing machine.

If there is a need, then BD will make sewing machines.

BD's economy has been growing at around 6% a year since 2000 and the IMF predicts that it will be around 7% by the middle of this decade.
