Battle between two ideas of India

I don't support the writer's protest. But this was an opportunity for the government to show it can work with opposition. Modi has no friends. He doesn't know how to make friends or probably doesn't even care. This is bad politics. All that was needed was a statement assuring these people saying violence will not be tolerated and freedom of expression will be protected. Instead the government attacks the messengers. At least ignore them with some respect.

Law and Order is a state subject
UP -- Dadri and Kalburgi -- karnataka are NON BJP states

.
Nobody is supporting such killings but there are fringe elements in the
Sangh parivar who will carry out such things

These people just want to Bring down Modi using these incidents

Anything happens ; Blame Modi

This is a HUGE country ; A billion plus Hindus
Modi is not responsible for such incidents

Do The secularists blame each other for violence in Bengal ; Bihar or Godhra train accident

This beef related violence cant be stopped

It is a REAL problem in villages

I agree wholly with you.

Except for the last part.

Not that beef is not a major issue in the villages and non metros. Its very is.

But that it cannot be stopped.

That I disagree with.

If you have a law, you have an executive that is there (should be there) to enforce it. Rigidly. Quickly. Unerringly. Fairly.

The villages are also part of our country. 70% of India resides there. Surely we should spend at least 50% of our efforts and resources policing this mass?

Is Modi to blame. No, of course not.

But it is on him to disabuse those who have mad their own assumptions about what his being voted to power means.

No one else can do it. He is apex karyakarta of bhartiya janta. He has to speak and lay out the lines.

He has not done so yet. Hence the many threads here, the hysteria on the TV, and the other print and social media.

Cheers, Doc

There are lakhs of villages and hundreds of towns in India which have a sparse
police presence

And police in India ; even in the metros can only react after a incident

Have you ever been to these areas -- Western UP
where there is a large population of Hindus and Muslims
living in proximity

They are like disasters waiting to happen

In this respect the neat demarcation of Aurangabad and Malegaon in Maharashtra is
more sensible

Modi can only condemn each incident ; but the secularists will ask for MORE

They are after him basically ; A large section of the political class
hates him and his rise

In fact we can expect ORCHESTRATED incidents in future
simply to blame Modi

These Con-gressis and and the SP goons can do anything

UP goes to polls in 2017

Just to set the record straight, I am part bhayya myself. My dad is a Kanpur boy. Schooled in Lucknow. And a large part of my paternal family is from there.

Me, I'm a Bihari. A Jamshedpur boy. A town which has seen some of the worst Hindu Muslim riots. My dad and I were almost lynched by a mob in one. Till a Muslim man saved us (my friend's dad).

I am no stranger to Hindu Muslim dynamics. I'm not your vanilla genteel Dadar Parsi Colony bawa doodh paanv. :)

LOL.... you want the govt. to show respect to those jokers who show disrespect to the PM, the Nation and BJP ? ...... so that they can then go on to claim some sort of Moral Victory ?

Thanks ........ but no thanks.

Best thing to do is ignore their drama and consign them to become invisible and unknowns again.

Modi wants people to protest cow slaughter and even take active steps to prevent it.

Of course he does not want lynching, but if he speaks against it then the most logical step will be to ask him to scale back the cow protection moment.

Its a catch 22 situation so the best thing to do is keep quite and let the storm blow over.

Any words against the very people who voted him to power is the day his charisma wears off ...... his loyalist (like me) will leave him and the "seculars" who want him to "say a few words against attrocities" will laugh at his downfall and proclaim they were right all along.

I thought his speech were brilliant considering the situation.

OK. I just said what the consequences would be. What is the problem if someone claims moral victory? Government will lose this drama drag for its win. Let both sides take the victory. In any case, the people who are running the country should be more responsible.

Forget about making friends, the government will lose sympathy if they continue with the 'in your face' attitude.

Everyone understands this dynamic. Modi is a war-tested politician. He should now how to placate one segment without estranging the other. He might still retain power if he choses his 'base' at the cost of his new found supporters. Let us wait and see if that happens.

Govt. don't need "friends", they need people to fear the law which the govt. can implement.

Elections are won on perceptions. Modi's greatest asset is his image of a Strong man. An Emasculated Nation like India needs such an powerful Mascot.

They day that image wears off .... Modi will find it hard to command respect. He will become another ADVANI.

Any moral victory for the "seculars" at the cost of his image is the day he will loose the battle and the war. He can sit on the throne only when people believe he is invincible, as he is today.

They do, which is why they want him to "apologise" and "say a few words for the Dadri victim". That is enough to change the dynamics and weaken him irreparable.

Its is silence over Gujarat Riot that earned him his respect. That same policy has to hold now.

He needs sympathy for being misunderstood. He is not required to be well loved, only well respected and maybe even feared. Such are the rules for the game of thrones.

You see in Bhakt brain writer goes against modi, writer is a moron/ pseudo sickular etc. Bhakt is totally brainwashed.

.
Bhakt think they're euivalents to the intellectuals. Why not? They put an illiterate HRD minister because she played Tulsi in a TV serial. And made Gajendra Chauhan head of FTII coz he played Yudhishtir.

Ohh..at least she is far better than when Congress planning to make an Non Indian resturant bar tender as a Prime Minister...

So let some minister say the same thing with a respectful tone. Why call them Congress chelas and undeserved recipients.

This is not about Modi's personal image alone. If not Modi, some minister could have gently and respectfully told the writers that their protest is meaningless. This confrontationist attitude does give a strongman image. People will realize what the common theme is in all the incidents - and that is this government disses all opposition without respect. This government does not know how to get people/other parties along with it. Blaming others of automatic hatred towards BJP will get them only so far. Being in government, the credit/responsibility for a smooth reign lies with them.

I feel sorry for the loyal muslims, the muslims I grudgingly have to admit exist, the Indian muslims. Waiting so many years, trusting India, trusting the Hindu neighbors and friends only to watch this disease of a government win an election and that also with a mass murderer associated with muslim genocide at the helm.

They may have difficulty becoming Pakistani even if they choose to since todays Pakistan is a lot more hostile to immigrants and on the other hand they could never truly be Indian-only second class citizens with no rights, poor treatment and their Hindu brothers having nothing but absolute apathy for their plight.

I mean how about India try to increase the ratio of muslims from 3.5% in the army to their real population? It will never happen, mark my words. The only option is Pakistan. They will never give you equal rights. If you want to hear the truth let me give you an example. Modi the PM and Afzal Guru who had given up militancy hanged.

To be brutally honest, who the phuk cares if these complete nobodies outside their elitist liberofascist cocoons return their awards or dance buck naked on the streets?

I am a reasonably well informed Indian. Pretty up to date about what's happening around me and impacting me.

And for the life of me, each baboon (and babooness) coming daily on national TV is a brand new face for me.

Let's move on and leave them to their miseries.

Hypocrites.

Cheers, Doc

Though I dislike my country's Hussain Haqqanis, Nadeem Parachas and Ayesha Siddiqas I do believe freedom of speech must remain and if we want to challenge these people it should be through the power and content of our words or the pen, not the sword.

Let free speech flourish I say.

Ohh..at least she is far better than when Congress planning to make an Non Indian resturant bar tender as a Prime Minister...

BJP made a chai wala a Prime Minister. Surely a Bar Tender isn't very different?

The best way to neutralize protests by irrelevant people is to ignore them. Not make them relevant by responding to them.

This govt. respects the opposition enough to let it exist, nothing more is needed or required. There is certainly no need to "appease" them. Such "appeasement" politics is exactly what BJP is against.

BJP stand is based on its value system, not appeasement and political expediency.

You are asking the BJP govt. to negate its entire Raison D'être. ............ it just shows how little you understand BJP or its relevance.

You want it to become another CONgress or at least act like them. That is the ONE thing they must NEVER do.

. .
I have not been keeping track of these events. Can someone clarify if all the planned returning of awards has all been completed or will this be dragged for another couple of years until the UP elections are also complete?
