Bangladesh unveil defence budget of $3.45 billion for 2018-2019.

More like worthless BAL. why blame the medium of exchange? It is only reflecting the crappy BD govt policy and complete disregard to even try reforming banking and finance sector.

@bluesky

Well the BD Taka has gone down from 78 to 84 to the dollar between 2013 and 2018.

Indian Rupee has gone from 56 to 68 in the same period.

So which country has the more worthless government/economy?

Factoring in India accumulated 100 billion in USD forex in that time period (6 - 7 times what BD did) and the effect that has on an exchange rate (if you know anything about it, which you dont)....easily India is run magnitudes better than LDC +stagnant and terrible corruption BD.

Cherry picking a timeline goes both ways, why not do it for the last cpl years...when USD forex levels are largely stationary for BD...( India managed to still add 50 billion USD forex level and actually appreciate for significant portion of it) now? That is actually way more relevant given stagnant forex change shows some of the underlying trend of an economy.

@Chak Bamu @madokafc @Major Sam @bluesky @Ryuzaki

Actually bluesky seems to be one of the few BD members that intrinsically understands what is going to happen now for BD. Its not going to be pretty at all.

Bangladesh announces USD3.45 billion defence budget
Jon Grevatt, Bangkok - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
11 June 2018

Bangladesh has announced a 2018-19 defence budget of BDT290.66 billion (USD3.45 billion).

Budgetary documents published by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) on 7 June show that the new expenditure marks a 10% increase over the revised allocation for 2017-18 of BDT264 billion.

The 2018-19 defence budget also amounts to 6.2% of total annual government expenditure and about 1.3% of GDP.

The new military budget allocates BTD279.1 billion for “non-development expenditure”, including military salaries and costs for maintenance and operations, and BTD11.52 billion for “development expenditure”, including military acquisitions. These allocations represent increases over last year of 9.6% and 24% respectively.
