Good that the defence budget has increased.

However it is still less than inflation + nominal gdp growth which will be around 10% for the previous fiscal.

In terms of percentage of GDP we shall see a slight fall but times are hard and the government needs a lot of money to support the economy, pay for vaccines and probably this is the best the military could have hoped for.

It's still less then 2% of GDP,.. I would stress on the 2% ratio more than a set figure but I would have liked this current allocation to be more to the tune of $5 B but I suppose its alright, most big procurements are done from the hidden budget anyway.

2% would be ideal but the problem is the government is not raising enough tax as percentage of GDP. There are lots of others pressing demands like education and health like the pandemic right now.

Like you say you also need to add in the extra allocation for weapons imports that come from outside the budget and so BD is spending 0.2-0.3% of GDP more on defence than the official figues show.

4.4 billion dollars is not much for the military and hopefully Bangladesh's economy will grow rapidly so that it can support a higher military budget. In 2035, with a per capita GDP of $10,000 and a population of 190 million, Bangladesh's GDP will reach $2 trillion, which can provide a military budget of $35 billion.

If the percentage of military spending reaches 2% of GDP, it would be $40 billion, this amount of military spending would allow Bangladesh's military capability to go out of the Bay of Bengal.

BD is spending taking into account its threats and capability to fund the military. It does not have any real threats as of now since Myanmar is too small and weak(apart from their airforce) and India has no interest in conflict with BD.

While 4.4 billion US dollars is not much, this needs to be compared to 1.8 billion US dollars in 2011.
It has one of the fastest growing defence budgets in the world, admittedly from a low base and this will keep growing around the rate of the hopefully fast growing economy.

.
Looks improvement on the paper only. They will revise it down after they realise that actual government revenue is not what they dreamed of. Happens every year.

They need to improve their air defence. No point of having a great economy if you can't defend it. Su35 and J10 would suit them well.

Pakistanis have been sold a particular worldview by people who benefit most from a high defence budget.

Even with nukes Pakistan has more warfare than almost any country. I think this shows that brute force is not the answer in a multi polar world.

Even with a mortal enemy like India, there is diplomacy and the benefit of competing powers (like China). China has made you safer than all of your weapons put together.

The embalms of the Bangladeshi armed forces looks very identical to their Pakistani counterparts.

just for information, either lakh or crore is not an English words

Sorry brother, for future reference, Crore is Ten Million and Lakh is 100,000.

These terms are only used when counting local money most of the time and have been in use since thousands of years.

After all - the units and numerals you see today (1,2,3) are all invented in Indian subcontinent, though they are called Arabic numerals. Arabs learned it from India.

In Indonesia, I'm sure they have local terms also for counting large amounts of money or population.

In Thai and Vietnamese, 100,000 is called แสน or SAEN.

Same for India , what's the difference even
How so? India's budget estimations and realisations are mostly in sync with margin of may be 5%.

Bangladesh revenue budgets are overestimated by at least 30% every year. They make these inflated budgets just to make peeps like you happy.

For 2020-21, they set a target of 3.4 trillion taka but will manage to may be 2.2-2.4 trillion before end of the year. For 2019-20, Bangladesh revenue was about 2.2 trillion taka. Who would in their right mind, put 3.4 trillion in the very next budget as revenue target. Can any country raise their revenue by 35% in one year? GOB takes everyone to be a fool.
