Bangladesh suspends funds for 'less important' projects as austerity drive ramps up

. .
“The release of funds for 'C' category projects will be suspended for now. However, the concerned ministries, departments and other institutions may, as required, reallocate the funds allocated for the 'C' category projects (with the prior approval of the Planning Commission and the Finance Department where applicable) to the 'A' category projects," the circular said.
Where is the list for 'C' category projects? Is not the Atomic power plant an unnecessary project that will produce only 2,400 MW of power and the cost including the interest is about $16 billion.

A 2,400 MW gas power plant would have cost the country only $2.4 billion. A country should cut its coats according to the available clothes, and not by borrowing as if there is no tomorrow.

Not to talk to commi lunatics.
These Commi lunatics love north Korea and think whoever does not love Kim Jung Un is certainly a Topiwala Mullah or a Tikkiwala Pundit.

^^^ Illiterate and half-educated keeps repeating the same nonsense over and over again despite the fact this has been explained to him multiple times already.

With nuclear nearly all the cost of the electricity is building the plant and so fuel, operations and maintenance are lesser factors.

With a gas power station, most of the cost is the gas fuel and gas prices are extremely high now and likely to remain so as demand keeps outstripping supply - that is if you can get shipments as every country is fighting over the precious resource.

The other tid-bit about gas is that it is both a pollutant and generates greenhouse gases - not as much as coal or oil but still does nonetheless.

Let us do a few calculations to prove my point:

Each kWh takes 0.14 kWh/cubic foot of gas to generate.

Assuming that the plant generates electricity 24/7

And so that would be 2,400,000kw * 365 *24 = 3.5x 10^9 kwh of generation per year.

So you would need 3.5x 10^9 /0.14 = 2.5 x 10^10 cubic foot of gas to power the plant each year.

This would be 25 billion cubic feet of gas.

Gas is now priced at 25 billion usd per trillion cubic feet. It used to be 5 billion US dollars just over a year ago.

So to run a 2.4GW gas plant would cost in fuel 625 million US dollars per year - far more than the yearly payment BD would need to start paying once it starts to repay the Russian loan from 2027.
