Bangladesh PM says illegal migrants taint national image

Douchebag - that article is from 2013!

Japan is assisting with a soft loan for Matarbari - Japan will give nearly 4 billion while BD will put in nearly 1 billion dollars.

Roopur deal is done - 500 million dollars has already been pumped into the project and there is no going back now.

You are talking to a citizen of a country where their government anounced 10% and above growth rate since 1992 yet their living standard did not move a bit. After opening up seems like some external cash is flowing in, and we have to wait few more years before we can say in which direction their economy is moving.

If we just offer Banaya India the sea access and few sacks of Hilsha then they will turn nuts and start bombing Calcutta and Rangoon instead.
As I said don't use your peanut brain so much to find logic. Our aircrafts got a habit of bombing dhaka and they will repeat 1971.

With this logic only we turned east pakistan into bangladesh!!! Now its turn for bangladesh to become myanmar. :D

I couldn't rely on your brain either who lost their way to India...

I think India should intervene and help out Bangladesh in their time of crises.

Thousands of Bangladeshis are dead and thousands are dying. Obviously Bangladesh doesn't know how to handle this situation which is turning out to be a game of political ping pong on the international arena.

iIlegal Bangladeshi arrested by Myanmar Navy

Migrants trying to leave Bangladesh illegally are tainting the country's image, its prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, has said.

Ms Hasina said their attempts to leave had made them "mentally sick".

Describing them as fortune-seekers, she said they should be punished alongside middlemen who arrange their travel.

Bangladesh and Myanmar have seen an exodus of people fleeing south by boat through the Bay of Bengal towards Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Thousands of people - economic migrants from Bangladesh and Rohingya Muslims fleeing persecution in Myanmar - are thought to be stranded in boats.

Also on Sunday, several mass graves thought to contain bodies of migrants were found in Malaysia, authorities there said.

Trafficking networks
Ms Hasina said: "Side by side with the middlemen, punishment will have to be given to those who are moving from the country in an illegal way.

"They are tainting the image of the country in the international arena and putting their life into danger."

She said: "There is sufficient work for them; still they are leaving the country in such disastrous ways."

Ms Hasina said measures were needed to prevent migrants handing money to middlemen and "falling into a trap".

The prime minister was addressing senior labour and employment officials.

She said those trying to leave think they will "earn a huge amount of money if they go abroad", but this showed a "mentally sick" attitude.

In addition to migrants stranded at sea, thousands have landed in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

Malaysia and Indonesia have agreed to stop towing boats out to sea and will provide temporary shelter to those who have landed. Thailand has only said it would stop rejecting boats.

On Sunday, Malaysian Home Minister Zahid Hamidi was quoted by Malaysia's Star newspaper as saying graves had been found in 17 abandoned trafficking camps near Padang Besar and Wang Kelian, close to the Thai border.

He did not know how many bodies had been recovered.

Several mass graves have also been found in Thailand along a route used to smuggle Rohingyas, but these graves would the first discovered in Malaysia.

An investigation by the BBC's Jonathan Head has found entire communities in Thailand helping the traffickers.

The Thai trafficking networks, he found, bought boatloads of migrants from other smugglers and held them in the jungle until their families paid a ransom. Many migrants are believed to have perished from disease or starvation.

So she is completely unaware of human smugglers network and the utter poverty that is plaguing the country, does she think that its reaching distant shores on a dingy boat, putting your life at risk is an easy journey? Its her and the political elite of the country that is bringing more shame than anything else.

More often than not, these people are under the wrong notion that they will have a substantially better lifestyle in the other country.
More education and awareness must be created about life they face if they manage to reach these destinations and show opportunities at home that can improve their life.

First part of your statement is spot on, but education wont help them. Many of them are being sold a dream that life will be better on those shores and I guess once they get on those boats, those who are naive enough to believe those dreams are wakes up to the grim reality. The blame is on the BD government and there is no way it can blame others for its own mess.

Shouldn't the bigger part of the blame lie with the people who are so easily duped?
If they are being kidnapped and then shipped like this, then I can understand the blame on the BD govt. But more often than not, these people pay a hefty amount to the smugglers to take them out. Tough to root that out completely.

Dude why are you so interested in his physical whereabouts? Interested to meet him?

As far as I can tell - he won't respond to your 'tum kahaan' gay overtures...

And awful or not - there's a saying in Bangladesh,

'Shokuner dowa-tey Goru morena.' ask around to find out what this means...

Like most Bangladeshis here @iajdani hates India, so I was curious about his "Entire life in India" comment!

Btw, is homosexuality common in Bangladesh? Just asking because you jumped to such a conclusion for my simple query! :)

Bangladesh is the only country which is soft towards Burmese.

As if Bangladesh has too many options! :P

LOL Indian

BD is at 1300 dollars US dollars GDP/capita and 200 billion dollar total GDP. GDP growth at 6.5% and forecast at a sustained 7% a year to end of decade by major economic forecasters

You may want to check out some of the current massive infrastructure protects like the 4 billion dollar Padma bridge which BD is building with it's own money, 4-5 billion dollar Matarbari coal-fired power plant and up to 9-10 billion dollar Roopur nuclear powerplant.

You are ignorant and so no point speaking to you further.

The figures are still among the lowest! :P

Btw, where did you spend the 4 billion dollars that we gave you? :)

Nope.. never.. we feel that since a long time ago.. that's why we put an air base with long range rader and air defence system and navy base and other forces near BD border... and we held combined exercises ,as well, at that area since long time ago.. we have been sent some scholars to BD and they will do know what bd is.. now we have been prepared very well for a threat from bd..and also watching ur steps.. :D BD is now about to start to be a threat to Myanmar.. while we had been played war games there many years ago.. Good luck..!! LOL

Bangladesh military is no match for Myanmar military, if there is a war, it will be a matter of days, if not hours, for Myanmar to crush Bangladesh like a cookie! :)

Apparently Bangladeshis think that they are too big to take our help.

The awful state of Bangladesh doesn't give much confidence about the quality of its gene pool.

You are silent about your "entire life in India" though.
what do you want him to answer that he lived in this malun country. mr Rawshan @iajdani . mighty bangladeshi talking about gene pool.

Let's not judge them, we dont know what were the circumstances of these people. They go though hell, most of them are going for the hopes of having a better life. No matter what at the end of the day this is the responsibility of the government to ensure its people are looked after.

Lol @ Indians saying BD needs help when they have mass-starvation that is not seen
anywhere else in the world apart from sub-Saharn Africa.

@Rain Man :

So what is the current GDP/capita of India then? Probably not much more than BD. Remember that only
5 years ago, India had twice the GDP/ capita of BD.

Bangladesh is still among the poorest countries in South Asia! That is not a bad thing as long as you are improving, the bad thing is the bragging that most Bangladeshis including you do here! :)

Lol - India and the rest of S Asia had 20+ extra years of independence over BD.

BD would be light-years ahead of India in GDP/capita if it had started in 1947 like India did.

PS - BD is using the 2004-2005 base year while India has now shifted to 2011-2012 base year to calculate GDP.Guess BD would be around equal with India in GDP/capita when it uses the 2011-2012 base year:azn:

.
Bangladeshis must vacate Chittagong hill areas and give to Rohingyas. That is the only solution.
Great idea... bro.. so-called Rohingya also love to live with their Muslim brothers... Win-win solution..!!

If you two knew that our Buddhist population is mostly concentrated there, would you still say the same thing?

More bragging. Your country also got freedom in 1947, after that you couldn't live with your loving brothers, but even in that period you were ruled by your own, or at least by your loving brothers. :)

Btw, compared to other major countries, Bangladesh will remain small & insignificant even after 20 years. :)

LOL - so factual information is bragging then?

You Indians are not in the league of a unitary state like BD.

BD is most similar to Sri Lanka in S Asia and that is the only country that BD looks up to in S Asia.

BD will soon pass India in GDP/Capita and then the idea of comparing India and BD will be laughable.
