What's new

Bangladesh officially recognises Kosovo as an independent country

Billu mia, your point taken.

Very true about Bangladeshi girls. The trend is changing and they arent as they used to be before. Even though, the girls my parents brought up and I am getting to know, are decent enough. However, issue is that anyone can put up a show.

1. Very high chances that will end up living abroad.
2. I is poor as f***. I pay 30 different taxes in 30 days in Switzerland.
3. Well quite a lot but its mutual. They are very open to what I like/dislike. I presume the preference for Bangladeshi girls is mainly due to culture and language.

And hell ya, she has to be a practicing Muslim. No ifs and buts.

Well if you end up living abroad then does it matter to your parents which nationality or ethnicity your wife is as long as she's Muslim? Don't limit your search to Bangladesh. It's a big, wide world. Could be Kosovar, Indonesian or even Maldivian. :-)

I know of plenty of Bangladeshis with Japanese wives (who have become practicing Muslims) and some even have been happily married for twenty some years....

If I was a parent - I'd look for my kid to be happily married (prime objective), not who he/she was married to.....

Life is short - being open-minded is the least we can become......

Choose wisely and take your time......no rush......

My apologies for the OT post.

Like a weak girly BD can judge whats stronk and not when taking a break from making cheap undies :p:
Nah. We're small fish, we admit that. But we're still laughing our *** off in our "indigenously make in Bangladesh" undergarments watching you guys trying to be part of the big fish  :p:

You can't have it both ways my friend, did the Indian army decimate you in two weeks in your opinion? That's a strange thing to boast about.

Same scenario but reversed (given the troop levels involved and hostile environment for defenders) would have produced exact same result.

No army could have defended successfully in that situation. No boasting or humbling if you look at it from neutral perspective.

Honestly I don't particularly care about that war much, I'm not here to dwell in the past, nor am I particularly well-versed in military history. I'm not one of the Bangladeshis that will argue a flame war for ten pages about who did what in 1971. I just wanted to make that first comment because the retort was there for the taking.

Vai, shudhrie jao.. :astagh:

The strange thing is that with 16 jets,20 tanks, and 45000 regular troops we made it possible to hold ground for 8 months, your Mukti Bahni terrorists failed to even capture a single district HQ from us,even though muktis were numbering around 0.2 million, add indian infiltrators and it makes a sound number of troops but still you failed and at last when Indians were sure you would be obliterated in couple of months and they attacked but funny part is that after 16 Dec they took good care of Muktis and told you what exploitation is and above all every 16 dec you have a catwalk known as Victory day...hahhahaaa.. poor guys you don't even have your own Victory day to celebrate,I feel pity on you people's.
And above all we stood and insurgency for 8 months and fought around 0.5 to 0.7 million total troops for 2 weeks,I am damn quite sure you guys will break our record if India attacks by surrendering in just one day.

I am happy Muktis failed miserably to anything for themselves at last Indians came to save there arse, and given sheer number of Indian troops and assets and level of our forces it was bound to happen but I feel pity for Bengalis a nation based on lies and surviving on lies.....

Like I said in a previous post, I'm quite indifferent to the 1971 war, and this topic has been done to death on this forum, with the arguments going back and forth endlessly on a war that finished 4 decades ago. If you choose to se that war as the valiant, brave last stand of Pakistan against traitors and Indians then so be it, Mashallah full power to you. However, it should be remembered that anyone can view or interpret history (especially in regards to a foundation of a nation) in almost an infinite number of ways. There are many Indian commentators on this very forum who view the foundation of Pakistan is some sort of last grasp for power by Jinnah and the Muslim League, and there others who see it as the bastard brain child of the British divide-and-rule strategy, and would also call Pakistan a "nation based on lies". However, I'm gonna assume you disagree with this point of view. And all of us Bangladeshis would say the same of your view on our nations foundation.

But let me ask you this question, do you honestly believe the union of West and East Pakistan was stable? That it could actually last in the long run? Two halves of a country divided between 1000 miles of enemy territory? It would be like if majority of the Russian population lived in Kaliningrad and expecting it stay united with the other 90% of the country thousands of miles away.

In all years of united Pakistan there wasn't any incident of riot except language riots and during all those years check every International static it favours us and tell us about rapid growth of Pakistan in every field, and any such statics wouldn't have been made without considering and calculating growth in East Pakistan.
And we may have formed a union with single defence, foreign and monetary policies, but that all is thing of past, the only thing which catches us is bitching of your Government.

But don't forget division under brits also means independence of east bengal from west, which we all know how culcutta treated East Bengal.

On the surface your correct, there were very few riots I must admit. However politically you can see how divided Bengalis were from the rest of the nation, we were never happy with the status quo shown by the large support for a secular, socialist party (that was founded by proud Pakistani and former Muslim Leaguer Husain Suhrawardy). This political polarization of the two halves culminated in the 1970 elections.

And on your point about East Bengal's separation from the west, I cannot deny it was 100% a good decision, which should have never been reversed from all the way back in 1905. It did benefit East Bengal economically, and that was mostly due to the extreme over reliance of the Bengali economic, political and educational hub in Calcutta, a problem West Bengal still has today (although we've almost mimicked that problem to an extent with Dhaka). I don't regret East Bengal being included in the initial Pakistan, it is an undeniable part of our history, and at the same time I also don't regret the fact that we left that union.
