Bangladesh looking to set up next Nuclear Power Plant: Sheikh Hasina

I don't know you are the one saying stupid crap like:

"My argument of comparing the market share of local brands of Bangladesh and India in the electronics sector was to point out the quality of our local products and its capability to compete against the global brands, something that is absent among the Indian brands. "

....when there is simply no interest from foreign producers to make things in an LDC (that you laughably attribute to STRONK BD manufacturers that repackage/rebrand chinese white goods/components by bribing the right ppl in BD govt)....and there is literally only 59k of exports to gauge their quality on (when 10's of millions was promised by now by just one company that releases a financial return once a decade apparently).

So please either have someone of worth say something on the matter first or export (even say 10% of what you were projecting in all those threads in 2015/16) so we have some actual reviews on the product that matter.

Or keep the flim flam attitude that BBS also revels in....its really your choice to have whatever audience/choir you want to feel better.

Yeah, ok.

Samsung opens two appliance plants in Bangladesh

.

350 units a day capacity and 47 million dollars in trade.....yay for "openings" and extremely low base effect

But big news for BD...congrats. ;)

"“We are investing $100 million and Samsung's investment is technology and knowledge,”"

Hah...looks like Samsung knows better not to commit actual FDI.

"Some 13 models of televisions -- all of which would be less than 55 inches -- will be manufactured at the plant, with some of the components brought in from Vietnam."

Always gotta love that word "some"....so non-specific, so Bangladeshi....allows good laundering of units at cost of actual MVA too.

But I am confused, you were arguing BD companies are super STRONK so that's why foreign companies weren't there....so why is Samsung coming in this yuuuuge+commited FDI+standard 5k daily capacity ;) way suddenly?

Not to mention Samsung actually produces in Samsung plants in India, not some "Transcom electronics" and "Fair electronics" "joint venture" intermediaries that are laughably fronting all the money too. Yay for assembly feelz hoaxes.

The fact that Samsung let the company to use their brand name is enough to determine the quality of Bangladeshi manufactured products and the capability of our human resources.

There is hardly any country in the world to have 100% localization of a white good. However, we have been producing picture tubes since long.

What little development there was got destroyed in the 1971 civil war.
Also since BD was left with no reserves in 1971, development was very slow after 1971.
Now we can see what an independent BD is capable of - fastest growing economy of more than 100 million population in the world.
You are again distorting facts. United Pakistan had no reserve in 1947. India was supposed to Pakistan a few billion dollars worth of money, which it did not pay. Yet, it developed during that 24 years. Nothing of that quantity was destroyed during the war except a few bridges. Almost all the Zilla roads were built by then. Hundreds of mills, factories and other Institutions were destroyed (by stealing) later by the AL cronies. This is why Sk. Mujib became unpopular.

BD did not develop at all during its first 24 years. Certainly, it is developing now. One reason why it did not develop after 1971 was because jute lost market to the plastic goods. Jute had no demand by that time. BD is developing now because of garments export in the absence of jute export. However, a day will certainly come back for jute. The world is aware of the pollution when plastic is being produced.

BD jute revenue was used mainly in Pakistan.
You think BD would not now be much wealthier if it gained independence in 1947?

Samsung is going to care about this given none will be exported? In fact it will be largely imported from Samsung in Vietnam and just final marginal MVA done in BD. Of course samsung wants their branding on it, lol, they have to create some demand by brand value for the hoax flow of "tech + investment" from their Vietnamese facilities....just like the Chinese OEM companies did with Walton (but they dont quite have the brand value like Samsung, so hey Walton gets it brand on the product). In the end nothing really changes significantly as far as actual MVA production w.r.t Bangladesh in non-RMG. You can do the correlation between MVA and BD exports (and why thats significant given export profile) yourself:

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/TX.VAL.MRCH.CD.WT?locations=BD

https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NV.IND.MANF.CD?locations=BD

If you dont want to believe that, its fine, just watch the production long term here, just like the export projections for Walton made 2 - 3 years back.

India was supposed to Pakistan a few billion dollars worth of money, which it did not pay.

Don't spread fake news.

India certainly paid it. Gandhi fasted over this very issue @Joe Shearer

You are as usual thinking of 1947 in the present context. There would not have been a east Pakistan or Bangladesh if not united with west Pakistan. It would have been taken over by Indian troops within a few weeks.

Muslim leaders of those days were not day dreamers like many I find in PDF. They could foresee what would happen to a small entity called BD if established in 1947. Please be practical. It is 2018 and you are talking about a political decision taken by all those Muslim, Hindu and British leaders in 1947.

Even BD was not supposed to be established had the west Pakistan leaders handed power in 1971 to the winner party, AL, of the election. We have to understand and recognize the flow of history. Can someone change the past just by talking in the PDF?

I seem to have got in on the fag end of a conversation. For what it's worth, all dues were cleared after Gandhi's fast; this clearance, and his fast, was precisely why he was assassinated.

Also since BD was left with no reserves in 1971, development was very slow after 1971.
Now we can see what an independent BD is capable of - fastest growing economy of more than 100 million population in the world.

My father recounted that he visited the manicured grounds of the Atomic Energy Commission in 1968 (three years after establishment) to visit a friend working there and they were already in experimental stages developing carbon-dioxide-laser cutting implements. All this progress and development before the 70's was lost in the hungama of 1971. Sad.

Most of the local talent left for more peaceful shores immediately prior to 1971 and the rest was lost in brain drain after 1971. Our main issue now is immature uneducated/unqualified goonda-cadre leadership incapable of forming a clear vision of where they want to take the country. They surround themselves with sycophants and yes-men.

Unless we realize this and correct it, progress cannot be built upon the minor hopeful successes from garments we have seen in the last decade.

Leadership must become professional and career-oriented instead of being built on parochialism and corrupt selfish outlook.

Otherwise progress will flounder and stay stagnant as in other ASEAN countries as we have seen of late.

And Nilgiri gets himself banned.......again.
If you ask my opinion, I would not wish the banning of @Nilgiri, only because his inverse reactions make this sub-forum more lively. But, he always exceed the limit and seems to hate BD with a passion. Wish him to come back early. Without posters like him BD posters will lose unity and will start criticizing their own people.

Its a mental case and more likely a crack case. I put him in my ignore list since long.

I am aware but the point is that BD did not have the chance to utilise It's own resources fully till 1971.
India has had 24 more years where it was the master of It's own destiny.

1. Thats not entirely bad considering the demand (or lack thereof).

2. well as the old saying goes, something is better than nothing(read :everything imported).

3. No one is arguing that, at least, i hope not.

4. I reckoned joint ventures were good for dometsic companies;they gain some manufacturing and technological expertise and foreign company doesn't get away with the entirety of the money?

E: oh...he's banned..

And here we are quick to blame Pakistan. I think we need to look at ourselves first.
