What's new

Bangladesh is negotiating with China on F-10 aircraft procurement

Mig-29s did not cost much too, may be around 30-35 million only for a new multi role SMT model. And they operate the same for long and there would not be more ground works to be done. In case JFT, they need all infrastructure & facilities as new.

I read that the competition was between J-10 and Mig-29

They already are operating F-7's and F-6's and the infra-structure can be replaced for jf-17 ,also Jf-17 costs 15million which is far less then mig-29

And not to forget that mig-29 is a twin engine aircraft while jf-17 is a single engine, twin engine is always difficult to maintain specially in the lights of small air-forces who have limited budget and limited infra-structure ,also the additional weapons of F-7's can be used on jf-17's as well ,which is also a plus point.

So jf-17 has 3 advantages over mig-29 in terms of price

Finally a new procurement news...!

Well i personally prefer J-10 for multi-role and JF-17 for intercepting purpose...and gradually we should replace our old bunch of birds with them...

And believing our defence relations with china has been very good...we might also get good discounts, allowing us to purchase more...which i also think can be an issue wit Pakistan, given its the AL govt.

Cheers!!!

According to the Russian military news network reported on December 1,2010, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh Army in the country before his speech at the ceremony said the government would purchase a large number of various types of weapons ..............................................
Bangladesh military budget after only 15 billion dollars.

First of all this article seems translated(notice sheikh hasina became he)

Other than what Hasina had said is there anything definitive on these purchase or in the report? We all know how much BS Hasina can talk. I am lost where Russian report found Bangladesh military budget "15 billion dollars"?

And with this economic picture

Country's BoP in negative territory
Decline in remittance flow, higher import payments blamed
Country's BoP in negative territory

Govt subsidy set to soar by 40pc for oil price hike
Govt subsidy set to soar by 40pc for oil price hike

I ask agin where the money for all these purchases Hasina mentioned will come from???? People typically go quite just about now.

Well the f-7bg was a stopgap solution for us.
For budget constraints jf17 should be a viable solution so that later on j-10 can be purchased. MIGs are quite unlikely to happen because recently there were some tenders regarding the construction of a workshop for c-802 missiles(will post in another thread). Both J series and f-22 frigates can launch them. So lets see what happens. Good to know that the APC's hav arrived.

I sure hope this news is true, I've been waiting to see how the current govt. plans to improve the air force.

JF-17's and J-10s eh? :pakistan::china: :agree:

When C-802 missilles were tested by our navy I have read that the weight of this missiles were reduced by quite a few kgs so that it can go farther. Now, my question is, are C-802 and also C-803 Chinese missiles are light enough for J-10s to launch? Or will there be other types of missiles for J-10 planes?

Yes J-10 can launch these missiles as well as jf-17 can also launch these missiles both are capable of it and more interesting thing is both the aircrafts can deploy same kind of weapons ,they have all the weapons in them common

J-10 can carry YJ-8K anti-ship missile (C-801). so can assume it can carry upgraded version: C-802 & C-803.

It have 11 hard point, six under the wing and five under the fuselage. Can fire PL-8, PL-9, Python-4, R-73, R-77 missiles and other PGBs.

You forgot the most important missile it can fire and that is SD-10 (PL-12) Bvr missile

C-802 is a heavy missile with about 700 kg weight and is used mostly as anti-ship armament. But, this PL-12 is about 200 kg and is used in surface to surface attacks. These two types seem to have two different functions. PL-12 may be very effective against enemy planes.

I acknowledge mate, but I was talking about the capabilities to fire anti-ship missiles from J-10X.

Our C-802X have 200km range with 700kg weight. 100-120km range will be enough for it to fire from J-10X, so the weight can really be reduced.

Do you thinking what I am thinking.

C-802 is an anti-ship missile where as PL-12 (SD-10) is a beyond visual range Air-to-Air missile ,so both have different purposes ,you can't compare them on weight

Reducing weight will increase its range further, but it will need a lot of modification or it should be a completely new version of missile like in case of Sd-10A and SD-10B.

By the way i was referring to SD-10 (PL-12) because it will give Bangladesh airforce the capability which they currently don't have, it will boost their defence in a tremendous way .

No, J-10B is not for offer to anyone except for PAF and is not available before 2015/2016..

Thunder has everything that Bangladesh Air Force is looking for, I don't have to repeat what it comes with. Logical choice would be as JFT's price tag is attractive, as AESA is PAF's requirement, by 2013 we could see something regarding AESA, It would be a must have upgrade with JFTs for BAF as well you get a $20M AESA JFT; does Mig-29 offer that? probably not as price tag would go as much as $35M.
