ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Sunday supplied 3,000 machine guns and MP5 guns to the Balochistan police to make the force well-equipped with modern weapons to tackle effectively the scourge of terrorism in the restive province.

Sources said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, in a meeting, had decided that the army would provide as many weapons to the Baloch Police as possible to fight terrorism.

Accordingly, the provincial security force was also provided with 360,000 machine gun bullets and an additional 120,000 bullets for the MP5 guns, they added. It merits mentioning here that the decision to empower the provincial police with state-of-the-art weapons had been under consideration since the new government assumed power.

Meanwhile, the police and other law enforcement agencies conducted various raids in the Dera Bugti area and recovered huge caches of sophisticated weapons from the miscreants.

Is Pakistan supposed to be equipping a police force or light infantry? What about forensics equipment? What about witness protection programs? What about a parallel court system people can appeal to when local courts go bad? What about detainment facilities that aren't open to the harsh desert air that dehydrates prisoners and drives them crazy, egged on to commit suicide by their jailers (as described by B. Bhutto). Finally, what about proper training for the police? Are they supposed to be law enforcement or trained by the Army to be a force for occupation and colonization?

Police in Balochistan has had rifles from WWII still in operation. Its just an upgrade program with 9mm SMGs, Assault Rifles and Machine guns for check posts and asset protection.

a developing country like pakistan has no need for witness protection nor can it afford one. but these weapons will help kill pigs sponsored by foreign pigs.

Balochistan Constabulary, levies and Baloshitan Police are one of the most under-equipped forces in the country, when you come face to face with the Terrorists, they will not be demanding Witness protection program or whether they had torture cells - all of the things come at later stage- first they need equipment to face the militants. If they lack the capability to fight, detain, arrest a terrorist what good is the WP, Judicial System, and the jails.
Once we have achieved this we can move up the ladder.
Let me give you an example.
F.C - is a well trained and capable paramilitary force- you don't need weapons for them(not unless they are hi-tech), what we need for them are the things you have mentioned above -
did I clear that up for you????
Talking about Forensic equipment than we have FIA, SIndh Police, Punjab Police, who would come to assist shall the need arise,
I only agree with your last part - The police training - because thats where they lack.

Regards

I hate to say this but we do need WPP more than anything right now - don't you know the reason many of the mofos are walking out of those courts free??? lack forensic evidence and the eye witness - all blame the 19th century qanun e shahadat and our well trained police on gathering evidence

Screw witness protection, you dont need protection from a dead terrorists or criminal, a criminal killed in Police Muqabla is the best kind of witness protection we can have at this point.

Not all criminals want to be so; some are compelled. Your mercilessness leaves such people - law enforcement's natural allies - with no hope but to continue with their criminal deeds.

That is, if they are REALLY criminal and not simply independent-minded people who have run afoul of a corrupt local administrator, as Anatol Lieven described one such Baloch cheiftain in his book, Pakistan, A Hard Country, a man who used acre-feet of water to keep his front lawn green in the most wasteful way possible while simultaneously complaining that other Pakistanis consumed too much water.

Naturally, the corrupt like nothing better than harassing the innocent who bear just complaints against them.

No, offer improved courts and a witness protection program first. Earn the trust of the people with a reputation for justice rather than execution and then you'll hardly need secret police or shock troops, for then the citizens will come to you.
