I agree with what the article has to say. Altaf and Bal Thakaray are two thorns from the same tree. Removing them, though their opponents would want this would ensure that one would prick his fingers because they have the support of a group of erudite yet uneducated people...
As a Pashtun (Pakistani-no Pashtun is Afghan) poet once said:
Sow flowers to make a garden bloom around you,
The thorns you sow will prick your own feet. (Rehman Baba)
But the people of Pakistan have sown so many thorns, including the Pashtuns for whom this was written that I believe we will be pricking our fingers for the rest of our lives and here I do not just speak about the religious bigotry angle... I speak about the ethnic angle too. 3 top political parties do not believe in Pakistan as said by their leaders or members.
As a Mohajir by birth (Though I do not call myself that at all initially due to Nationalist reasons and later because of the divisive power of ethnicity) I will try to answer Spartacus to the best of my ability. I was going through the thread and many posts made me sad. But on account of limited time I will answer only one.
The sons of those who escaped Indian mobs with only the word Pakistan on their lips have now become so low, so racist to their fellow countrymen it really hurts. And I have to admit it is one of the primary reasons I tried to “quit my race” and find a new one albeit unsuccessfully in Pakistan’s ethnically charged atmosphere. I was told I was a donkey trying to be a lion... those words have a sting to them after an year or so passing...
In my in-progress research paper I have written about a number of tools ethno-nationalists like to use. My time on an Afghan dominated Pashtun forum also helped deeply and I hope to complete this report with an entire set of solutions which I wish to present to our delinquent Pakistan government. I will type the ones I see in your post in bold Spartacus and label them with a *.
*Self-victimization.
We are the victims... we were terrorized, we were attacked, we were killed... surprising that Muhajirs seem to be at the very top of the National hierarchy yet my community has become so good at whining. Every community shouts the same rubbish. According to a talk with a Punjabi friend even they have joined the fray. He said he was hosting a “party for Punjabis”
I have a friend, still cries about her father who the MQM killed. Another friend lost an uncle to the MQM because he refused to pay the extortion fee. All he said was we actually support MQM, we couldn't believe MQM was involved in this kind of thing. And they shot him the third time because he was delaying them with their speeches. My uncle, very famous guy with heavy contacts established a restaurant. MQM thugs began to come around demanding free food (for like 30-40 people) and extortion. Despite his contacts with the army Altaf managed to shut the place down for his refusal. Anyone in the business community knows what the MQM is.
Now if that is what our great lion of Muhajirs is doing with his own then I will cheer an operation Clean-up a thousand times until this flotsam is cleared. You shouldn’t be worried though. Every police officer that took part in those operations is dead anyway. By 10 years we will clear Karachi as a Mohajir zone and 20 years we will clear the other races out of Pakistan and hand it over to India in a silver platter as Altaf wants.
You mean by forming a political identity have a separate political party exclusively for Mohajirs and be a part of the National trend of creating ethnic politics because Mohajirs have always been in Pakistani politics. I can name a few but you know how ridiculous this is and this is a fact that cannot be denied (I mean why MQM has to be the only political party). Though I suspect you mean that our awakening basically means setting fire on Pashtun carpet shops causing a loss of Rupees 5 Million to National economy and ordering Sindhi Raksha drivers at gunpoint to join our rally to make it appear larger.
For the past 30 years we have been controlling Karachi and oppressing everyone else. Not only that. Our language is the National language and it is being imposed on every other person, even the Punjabis (Punjabi is not even taught in Punjab! A dying language!), our poets are Iqbal and Mir Taqi and that is what we teach to the rest of the country... We don’t teach them about Mir Chakar and Mir Gwaharam’s, we don’t tell them about the Talpurs, no one knows Rehman Baba or Pir Roshan's (secular) Roshaniya or Ahmed Shah Durrani (who was born in Multan & is hence Pakistani)
For this I would like to whole-heartedly apologize to the Sindhis, Balochs and Pashtuns. Pakistan is actually a Muhajir-Punjabi empire. Many young Punjabis usually have the brains to admit this, but we Muhajirs produce such brilliant sons that they have added to the misery.
*Self-gratification.
Conceited haughtiness and supercilious arrogance. A mark of every ethnic group today in Pakistan where 3 major Pakistani political parties have publically stated they do not believe in Pakistan or hold other things above it.
There is nothing suggesting the state will collapse without Urdu-speakers. In fact I would love to see the ones justifying Altaf’s speech to Indians calling partition an error leaving for good. Then lets see if “Pakistan collapses” or gets stronger.
We Nationalists are beyond the race issue. Every race thinks it is superior. We say the contributions of each and every race are valuable. Instead of teaching our kids that we muhajirs made Pakistan and made 90% of the sacrifices we should have told them that we collectively as Pakistanis made sacrifices and each race has rendered supreme sacrifice for its formation and NO RACE has done more than the other. But we are little Taliban who, to defend Altaf would jump into a river of fire like a Bollywood hero (Just see how people defend his partition speech which according to our Nationalist proposed laws should be punishable by death) so why would we teach them that?
Good at least you admit. Have you seen the list of directors for radio Pakistan About 30% of the directors are Muhajir (compare to Urdu-speaking population of 8% of total Pakistani-highly inflated that also because question asked in surveys is language NOT ethnicity) There were 2-3 Sindhis and Pashtuns. And guess what. NO BALOCH. So the Punjabi didn’t steal from the Baloch. We did him very badly too and my relatives are very proud of it. You should see them in the drawing room talking about kicking them out as if Karachi is a baap ki jagir, a fountain from which only the benevolent (albeit extortionist and murderous) ‘Prophet’ Altaf Hussain can drink.
Inconsequential. And Hazrat Quaid E Azam, the lion of Pakistan was not Mohajir. He was Pakistani first second and last and he refused to call himself anything else. Do you know how many times people asked his religion? Are you shia? Are you shia? It was cacophony of clamorous Mullah-cult shouts that rang across the Himalaya mountains but he didn’t once say he is Shia. When he didn’t even state his religion you think he would have proudly called himself Muhajir?
According to a speech he called for Pakistanis to abandon provincialism (I guess he didn’t know the retards from his own race would exacerbate already existent ethnic tensions by failing to integrate and calling themselves Muhajirs. In that case he would have called on us to abandom ethno-fascism.) Of course not that I expect you to care about Quaid E Azam anyway. Altaf called the partition the biggest blunder in history so he clearly doesn’t believe in Jinnah.
Father of Nation - YouTube
Ironic isn’t it, one of the people who fancy themselves as better Pakistanis who formed Pakistan (alone, as they say) are now rallying behind a traitor who calls the partition the biggest blunder in history. Bet the Indians would be loving this. I wish I had been shot in the head before seeing this day. And 5 ppl thanking a bigoted post.
This is rather fallacious. Though I admit the highest percentage of rioting and casualties took place in Punjab it is childish to say that there was no rioting in other areas. 400-500 Muslims were killed outside Lucknow. People from Barey gaon (A village outside lucknow) have very harrowing tales from partition.
We can’t shift all blame to Punjab. We were murdered brutally and as my book Badal states an injustice leads to a series of injustices. When Muhajirs, many who had lost loved ones in their villages, came from India they launched massacre after massacre upon hapless Hindu citizens who should have been Pakistani today and could have helped us cull the terroristic monkeys.
Unfortunately we love to poke fun of their customs as a hobby. What can I say anyway... I have transformed in 3 years, the Nationalist cause enveloping me like a second skin. I wish we could spread it to everyone else.
*Evasion & shifting blame.
We Urdu speakers were culled like slaughter animals in India during the partition and in our case even after it. Our people there are still fighting court cases with their government which hasn’t given their local Indian muslims ownership of property rightfully theirs and taken by force from them in 1947. I have direct contact with the Azad Deccan Movement which states the population of Hyderabad (in AP) in 1947 was 60% Muslim, rest other religions. This was systematically reduced in a genocide in 1948 operation polo to 40% to give Hindu’s an advantage. A lot of the members are seeking independence from India.
Now since we suffered so much we were like angry bulls. There is an entire report that a caravan of Muhajirs that arrived (had lost women and children to Sikh hordes) and the first thing it did was massacre Hindus in self-righteous rage. This Punjabi-this, Punjabi-that is a deceptive untruth and an attempt to blame another community for our wrongs though Punjabis should be willing to admit they too did murder Hindu civilians. In fact even so-called good people like us were complicit because we knew people who took part in rioting and informed no one. The police wasn't properly formed isn't a good excuse for not reporting murder of Hindus.
In any case there are some man enough to apologize. Not to the Indians... but to the Hindu brothers and sisters in Pakistan. They are part of us.
After reading 4-5 posts filled with the same ethno-jingoistic rubbish I do not find it surprising (according to your profile) that you live in Nazimabad (Very close to my area) where our immediate family’s conversations consist of kicking Pashtuns and Baloch out of the city (even though there is the miniscule possibility that our ancestors may be Pashtuns!) other than calling Shia’s Kaffir.
For 60 years we haven’t been able to decide that Karachi, a city with less than 5% of Pakistan’s population belongs to everyone, of course we are bound to kill each other for the rest.
Pakistan’s predicament is the mindset of its people. Oscar has rightfully stated that we are a godamn Yugoslavia though I fail to understand why he had to thank the post. God forbid we break, because if that happens I will die a martyr for this land, even in my sickness.
I hope this comment which I hope to incorporate into my paper:
1) destroys the myth of non-existent “oppression” of Muhajirs
2) Destroys the myth of Altaf being the spokesman for all Urdu-speakers.
3) Reveals to the world what I plan to refer to in my report “the victim syndrome” a mindset detrimental to Pakistan.
4) Exposes the ability of the ethno-fascist to thrive on divisions in society and destroy National unity.
If you after hearing all this refuse to call me a ‘Muhajir’ I have no issue because I am admittedly Pakistani first second and last and if anything after that a Nationalist willing to take the bullet for his country which as my years as Nationalist leader prove has now become a crime.
But I am indeed the son of a family that fancies itself Muhajir. I refuse to take part in the division and I wish for the downfall of MQM, ANP and PPP each having made known anti-Pakistani sentiments.
