seriously you haven't read about Peshwa Bajirao till now. Under his leadership Marathas finally replaced Mughals as the most formidable power in subcontinent. But can't blame you though the kind of leftist version of history we learned in school I didn't even knew about Rajendra Chola or Krishnadevraya instead are forced to recite praises of Khilji, Babur and Aurangzeb.
Quintessential Bollywood treatment of the the subject matter. Trailer shows it is a typical escapist fare.
Would have liked something with more substance, Marathas and Peshwas though not as benign as depicted in popular discourse still deserve far greater exposure on International Stage. They were instrumental in fall of Mughals and only the vagaries of fortune and untimely deaths of the scions left the Marathas fragmented and susceptible to British.
Bhansali will be forced to make movie on Ghiyasuddin Balban to restore the secular balanceIntolerance will rise with the release.
I never prefer to watch an indian movie on big screen unless its directed by Bhansali. The efforts he puts in movie sets, its picturization and cinematagrophy is mind blowing! If not for the hero or heroine, one must watch the movie for picturisation. The way Bansali makes it larger then life visuals are treat to eyes when seen on wide screen.
It's a love story with a periodic backdrop more like Jodha Akbar. We had Secular people writing articles why India shouldn't win cricket world just because Modi is PM, wonder how they would react if people start making movies about exploits of Marathas and Sikhs.Quintessential Bollywood treatment of the the subject matter. They were foresighted enough to share power with the chieftains but again behaved atrociously towards Jats and Rajputs which frustrated their attempts against United Hindu opposition to Islamic Rule and British later on.
