Bahrain Defence Expo 2017 BIDEC 2017

I care more about the assault rifle in the background. The car 816 would be an excellent replacement for the Saudi/Egyptian/Jordanian and maybe even the Moroccan and Iraqi armed forces and it's made by a fellow Arab country that would be extremely trustworthy which is why it's extremely perplexing that nobody has ever gotten it except the UAE. Why not?

Visitor of BIDEC 2017, Bahrain International Defence Exhibition and Conference fires with the Caracal CAR 816.

The CAR 816 is a center-fire, gas operated, and rotating bolt system assault rifle, chambered in NATO 5.56 x 45. The CAR 816 is an assault rifle designed for the high-end use of law enforcement and military applications. The weapon is available in semi-automatic and select fire configurations.

The CAR 816 has a full-auto fire control group with a high rate of fire at 850 rounds per minute. It also has specific features including fully ambidextrous controls including the selector switch and in option, an ambidextrous magazine release.

The CAR 816 is based on the design of American-made AR-15 and is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. The operating system is a short stroke pushrod gas piston system. The gas systems are controlled by an adjustable gas valve with three positions.

The position one of the adjustable gas valve is for normal operation. The position two is for operation in adverse conditions, low impulse ammunition, or when the system becomes fouled. The position three is for normal operation with a sound suppressor affixed and allows cycling of the action.

The Caracal CAR 816 is available in various barrel lengths 10.5” CQB, 14.5” Carbine and 16” Carbine Rifle.

@Sharif al-Hijaz @Khafee @Amir_Pharaoh @Gomig-21 @Amun

Do any of you guys know why Arab militaries don't get the car-816? Seems like a great replacement for the AK that is normally used in many Arab militaries.

That's a great question. You'd think it would make a lot of sense to do so, being an excellent Arab built MG. I can only speak for the Egyptian military and this would even just be my opinion based on history and from what I know. But essentially it's been very difficult to replace the AK-47 in the Egyptian armed forces for 2 simple, major reasons. 1) it's a relatively inexpensive and excellent weapon to field a very large army with and it's also 7.62 x 39mm which cuts through infantry like hot knife through butter. 2) It's been the workhorse of the EGY military since it was first exported from the Soviet Union in the early 50's and the Egyptian MAADI MISR was produced in the hundreds of thousands and is the closest of the soviet AK replicas. So being the long-standing classic soldier's weapon with a powerful caliber and one of the best local production copies which makes it very cost effective to make it the standard issue to a very large army, it's very hard to find an equivalent replacement. This is without going into the pros and cons of the ruggedness of the AK vs any other manufacturer.

The other issues beyond those two is that the CAR-816 is basically an Arab version of the M4 carbine, of which is already found quite extensively in many Arab units across the board, from Saudiya to the UAE to Jordan to Egypt. So the 5.56 caliber is already covered in that weapon which can be modified in many many ways with various size barrel lengths and positioned picatinny rails to mount all sorts of scopes and grenade launchers and what have you. And as you've probably noticed, many of the special forces from the NAVY to the SEALs to other tactical units look like they're heavily gearing towards SIGs, at least for the Egyptian forces because it's just an outstanding assault rifle in all aspects. So it's almost a matter of a too late and really nothing different with the exception of being Arab-made to make a radical switch with something that's already been heavily invested and established.

It's a good question. From what I recall there were some issues with the Caracal pistol initially but they have been solved long ago.

The Caracal pistol is used by the following:

The Caracal on the photo that you have quoted bro is a CSR 338 sniper rifle if I am not wrong. I am not sure if it used by any Arab military yet.

@Khafee should know more about this.
Caracal pistol has a bad reputation due to its previous models cracking.

Although they replaced the guns but the bad news doesnt go away easily.

they still have problems with few parts in it being "unreliable in the long term".
And it' s not cheap... with his price you can get a western equivalent combat proven for a long time...

I like the improvisation included in 'THEEB' perhaps Pak army should take a lead and replace its pickup trucks with something like this.
