BAF signs contract with China for K-8W jet trainer aircraft

DHAKA, June 20, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) signed a
contract with China under G2G agreement for procurement of K-8W Jet Trainer
aircraft at the Air Headquarters today.

Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat was present at the
ceremony, said a press release.

Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Plans) Air Vice Marshal M Sanaul Huq and
Vice President of CATIC Liu Jianhai signed the agreement on behalf of
Bangladesh and China respectively.

Among others, PSOs of Air Headquarters, senior BAF officers,
representative from AFD and MOFA were present on the occasion.

Ambassador of China in Bangladesh Zhang-Zuo and President of CATIC were
also present.

BAF has been flying K-8W Jet Trainer aircraft since 2014.

Further acquisition of K-8W aircraft will certainly enhance and uplift
the training capability of BAF. The contract was signed as part of
implementation of the “Forces Goal-2030”.

We can ask the Pakistani AF bhais who can tell us how many pilots go through advanced jet training (using K-8W) every year at Sargodha and other top schools in Pakistan.

Pakistan will make from K-8W sale as well along China.

So when are they going to place a decent order for serious combat aircrafts ? These endless procurement of training jets is way beyond ridiculous.

Its like you need to get a 45 acp or 40 s&w or a 9mm handgun, but you buy a kiddie 22 handgun which is only good in learning how to keep your arm steady when you pull the trigger.

Having good pilots takes years of training and has more priority than having the latest equipment because the most advanced fighter jet without a properly trained pilot is useless. So a good decision.

K-8 production used to be at PAC Kamra with Pakistan making fuselage parts but with the urgency for JF-17 production the assembly line facilities for K-8 at PAC Kamra have been merged with JF-17 production facilities. K-8s no longer being assembled at PAC Kamra and production shifted to China but it will still be making components and sending them to China for final assembly. Pakistan will also be getting a share of the profits since it's a partner in the K-8.

Just for knowledge
K-8P/E have some western components and US engines. The Honywell engine is 15.6KN each but compared to the WS-11 it's more modern and has DEEC (digital electronic engine control). Its a very popular commercial engine with a good record.
K-8W is improved variant of domestic JL-8 and has no restricted components. Engine is WS-11 which is more powerful at 16.9KN each.

Dhaka signed an intergovernmental agreement with Beijing on 20 June for the procurement of an undisclosed number of additional Hongdu Aircraft Industries Corporation (HAIC) K-8W Karakoram basic jet trainers for the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF).

The Bangladeshi military’s Inter-Services Public Relations announced that the contract was signed in a ceremony attended by BAF Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Masihuzzaman Semiabat and China’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Zhang Zuo, among others.

Well that's one way to fill the numerous airbases being built.

I do not think the air bases are built to house the trainers only. The trainers will be certainly followed by the purchase of jets. As far as I know, at least three trained pilots are needed for each jet.

F7 is different class and its mig21 based technology and K8 is for training only. you can't compare both
