BAF Receives Advance Chinese Air Def System

So, what we buying something like the S-300?

I heard of rumors that BAF is considering inducting the SU-27SKM.

What is the use of buying something wihich is not effective against SU-30 or Mig-29s?? Are these toys only for show?

Who said they aren't effective against MiGs?

Both ground based air defenses and jets are to be carefully balanced. You can't have too much of one thing.

Dude!!! A few SAMs aren't gonna do much good in case you DO have to face the SU 30s and Mig 29s. The jamming equipment on the Phalcons are enough to disrupt those.

Now I am guessing you are pointing towards India in that regards 'cause no one else flies those birds. Heard of the Harpy drones? They will be used in combat to take out SAM sites. When InAF will enter the skies they will ensure complete air dominance and hence domination of ground combat space.

So unless BD is covering a lot of area with something comparable to a S-300, these are for an occasional aircraft from Myanmar that may enter BD territory. The Sukhois are a different league all together.

They may deter attacks helos but I doubt the system can track and intercept incoming missiles

True. SU-30MKIs backed by AWACS are really a force to be reckoned with. In fact, almost invincible compared to Bangladesh's standards.

What kind of 'missiles' are you referring to exactly?

Point defense systems aren't meant to intercept cruise and ballistic missiles.

The FM-90 is for attacking low lying aircraft such as helicopters and CAS jets. That way, and keeping up with armored formations, it can bring down enemy aircraft (not all). And hence, keep the tanks safe from such threats.

For cruise and ballistic missile defense, you need something like this:

By the way, a proposed sale to the UAE of such a system is worth over $7 billion.

The THAAD is one of the most advanced though and more meant to kill ballistic missiles. As far as cruise missiles go, Bangladesh can look for Patriots or S-300s (if wallet allows). But ballistics, a lot more.

Electronic warfare? Are you sure that Bangladesh is good at that all by itself?

Obviously, an enemy bird flying 20,000 ft in the air won't be identifying targets based on visual identification.

BD is not after offensive weapons. However, it is contemplating to buy a few squadrons of planes like J-10B or Su-35 in order to take a war to the enemy land. Offensive capability is also a necessity.

Yep, one has to take the war to the enemy. Only a fool would believe that he'd be safe from just having SAMs. Doesn't matter if we have FM-90s or THAADs.

I am not sure if we would be offered the J-10B. I don't think we should consider the J-10A or the basic variant of the JF-17. BAF is a small force, so it should go for aircraft that have good technology in them.

Although, I am sure Moscow would offer the SU-35BM (it's a sweet jet), but that's only possible if wallet allows.

Although, I believe our MiGs are free from the problems they experienced earlier (for the most part). They might consider Flankers in the long term.

This thread is about BAF buying a new air defence system. Then you indians came along and decided to ask against whom this will be used. Then you indians decided by yourself that this will be used against you indians. Then you indians decided that this is because of our "hindu hatred mentality".
