The PAF operated barely two squadrons of B-57s at it's peak;
it's pilots and navigators were awarded a total of 15 SJs and 2 TJs for gallantry in both wars.
No. 24 Squadron was unique in the sense that it was raised as part of that compromise, manned by both US and Pakistani aircrew, and had aircraft on strength that were Pakistani- and US-owned.
The squadron was raised on 5 Dec 1962, with Sqn Ldr Mohammad Iqbal as its first OC and with a skeleton staff of pilots, navigators, and maintenance crew. The squadron was equipped with two specially modified RB-57Bs (S/N 52-1536 and 52-1573) between Dec 1962 and Feb 1963.
