Baku Will 'See' Via ASELSAN Tech on JF-17s

jf17_thunder.jpg

Azerbaijan takes an interest in JF-17 Thunder, jointly developed by Pakistan-China and MFI-395 Super Mushshak primary training aircraft. Azerbaijan and Pakistan demonstrates their decision on developing cooperation in defence area in the air first. In October, Pakistan Preime Minister Navaz Şerif had made an official visit to Baku for three days. During this visit, he and Azerbaijan Head of State announced their agreement on joint production and training. Both parties signed this contract in November. Azerbaijan is exxpected to chose JF-17s in place of Mig-21s and Su-25s.

Turkey will contribute on JF-17s, that will replace Azerbaijan's Su-25s which are used in close air support missions. ASELSAN will equip 10 Pakistani JF-17s with ASELPOD Targeting Pod. If Azerbaijan choses Thunders, same pods will indirectly enter in Azerbaijan inventory.

Nope, entire Air Force is going through upgrades, Su-25s won't be replaced, Azerbaijan will either buy SU-30SM as they are cheap now due to collapse of ruble or wait and see if Turkey manages to make a fighter, otherwise JF-17 doesn't provide any improvements over a completely upgraded MIG-29.

Mate, i saw this "Azerbaijan takes an interest in JF-17 Thunder" kind of articles /news for a few times every now and then. But saw nothing from the Azerbaijani side....all these reports come through Pakistanis.....

Are there actually any Azerbaijani reports which says Azerbaijan is interested in JF-17 ?

I noticed pretty much the same trend. The articles and reports are generally one sided. Honestly Azerbaijan isnt the type of country that is in dire need for this type of conventional aircraft anyway. It simply makes more sense to either upgrade existing aircrafts or opt for cheaper and more capable Russian alternatives.

agreed, upgraded MIG-29 with SOMs is more than enough for Azerbaijan, would love to see Su-30SMs tho

You can replace your Mig-21 with JF-17 which also use RD-93 engine, a variant of Mig-29's RD-33 engine .

Azerbaijan Air Force retired MIG-21's a long time ago. They are using MIG-29, Su-24 and Su-25. Also if I know correctly, they are using MIG-25.

Azerbaijan never had MIG-21s, we had Su-17s, Su-17s and MIG-25 were replaced by MIG-29s from Ukraine

Su-24 are retired, Air Force is working on an overhaul program

Is the number of combat aircrafts on wikipedia accurate?
If so, is that number now a bit low?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azerbaijani_Air_and_Air_Defence_Force

The numbers are way higher now, we have more than 30 Su-25s, 11 were bought from Georgia not long ago

helicopter numbers are also way higher
Azerbaijan ordered more than 100 Mi-17s back in 2010

BMP-3M with Vesna-K and 2S31 Vena in the back

Whats the general attitude towards Turkish products from current Azeri political perspective bro? I assume it is not at the level it was before. I always wondered to know from an Azeri.
