Award for Hasina - French university to honour her for democracy

Awami league neither knows the meaning of secularism nor democracy. This party is more oriented around fascism, thug-ism, Mujib warship-ism and mostly Bharat please-ism.

@ Al-zaker, "Tumne meri dilki bat kaih di".Bravo!!!!!!!

You guys went all they to please your Bharti Hindu master with celebration of foreign poet name Tagore. He was a anti-Muslim bigot.
Many Hindus can be counted as anti-Muslim before 1947. But, I do not think Tagore could be. You always say about his opposition against founding Dhaka University as the reason for that, but you come with a twisted logic. You fail to come with any logical argument to support your views. Come with truth and logic, please.

His name is Faiz Ahmed Faiz. However why Awami give so much importance to foreign poet named Tagore over Kazi?

Difference between you Bengali and us Bangladeshi is that we empower, high light and focus on our own people reside within Bangladesh whereas you are more busy empowering your west Bengali Hindu. Disgusting.

By the way, do you know why in Dhaka University Nazrul's Bangla literature is not taught in Masters level?

@ eastwatch: Tagore always used to hate the muslims, there were many proves in the history. You remember once Bengal was divided by the British on administrative ground, the muslims were benefisiers in many aspects. It was well comed by the muslims of East Bengal. Soon All India Muslim Leaque was formed at Dacca in 1906.

@ This was not at all liked by Tagore. He devoted his all works on the annulment for the partition of Bengal.

@ All the songs which inspired us for the movement of East Bengal to independance state was basically written by Tagore during that time. "Amar Sonar Bangla" was written at that time. The todays slogan of "Joi Bangla" of AL was the slogan of those people who were fighting for the annulment of Bengal. All these were the old records but played for the movement of Bangladesh. The theme of that time and during liberation war was not the same. Know the Bengal history in depth not like AL's Bengal history starting from language movement and finished in 1971.

@ " Ebar tur mora gange ban utheche joi ma bole", "Tura sob joyer dhoni kor".

@ Even he used to inspire/fund two terrorist organisation named as "Unoshillon" and "Jugantur".

Do you expect another 2 year of military rule? But, this time SH is not doing the same mistakes as KZ was doing in her time. SH is slowly distributing the money among AL supporters through tenderbazi to make them happy and active during caretaker. KZ allowed only her two sons mininsters to take away the money. So, she could not master enough party workers during election. This time SH may be a bit stronger.

Are you saying that Hasina's son isn't corrupt? LMAO. The guy has a lot of property in Jacksonville, Florida. Do you know much much that property costs?

True, Khaleda Zia has proved to show poor leadership. Her inablity to control her greedy sons shows this.

But Hasina is certainly no different either.

Neither of the two women have any leadership. END OF STORY.

1. The discussion has strayed into the two leading poets of BD - Tagore and Nazrul. Neither was born in today's geographical limits of BD. Both are master writers, poets and have enriched Bangla language as none other.

2. Firstly let us discuss Tagore. He was not a Hindu; he was a follower of Brahmo Samaj (BS). An icon of BS was Raja Ram Mohan Roy.BS was born in his family with his grandfather as the leader. BS was a movement of protest against Hindu dogmatism, pagan rites, child marriages, widow burning ("satti"), banning of widow remarriage, unity of the creator as opposed to myriads of gods. He and his family were blacklisted by then Hindu society. Marriages with them were banned. Tagore was not accepted as a writer or poet before he got the Nobel.

3. Yes, Tagore was not very kind to Muslims. He was a zamindar (landlord) where his poor serfs were mostly Muslim. In his writings Tagore referred to the Muslims as "jabon" or "melechha" - both derogatory terms. He also wrote for the upper class. Common man does not understand or enjoy his poems or songs. That is why the outgoing leftist govt of W Bengal had nearly banned him.

4. He received the Nobel which made Bengal and Benalees proud. Not only BD but Indian and Sri Lankan (a version) national anthems are written by Tagore. Never-the-less, it has to be said that actually the English rendering of his poem by the then poet laureate of England had won the prize. The leftists also shun Tagore for his zaminadr aristocratic background suspecting him to have been an agent of the Imperial British like Gandhi and Nehru.

5. Nazrul wrote much more than Tagore. And his was all original - not following leads of Atul Prasad or Lalon Shah like Tagore. Nazrul was a freedom-fighter - and he went to jail for this. A soldier (rose to a Havildar during WW I but posted in Karachi all the time), he took upon the task of arousing the subjugated Bengalee Muslims, almost contemporary to Allama Iqbal. When Iqbal declared, "Chin is mine, Arab is mine, Hindustan is mine; the whole world is mine - I am a Muslim", Nazrul called out to break down the prison gates of steel with a Nara e Hayderi. He was a true revolutionary. None before him used Muslim history and words/terms from Persian and Arabic so flawlessly and profusely in Bangla as he. W Bengal also celebrate him, and he was celebrated more under the left govt for his ideas of equality, social justice and freedom.

6. Nazrul is BD's national poet. The regimental song of E Bengal regiment is a song written by him. He is so popular and accepted that no BD govt would ever think of down playing him. Why should they?

7.Perhaps the greatest and most farsighted action that Sheikh Mujib ever took for BD and the Bengalee Muslims was to literally abduct Nazrul from Calcutta and establish him at Dhaka.

By the way, do you know why in Dhaka University Nazrul's Bangla literature is not taught in Masters level?

Maybe because of this:
Nazrul's poetry imbibed the passion and creativity of Shakti, which is identified as the Brahman, the personification of primordial energy. He wrote and composed many bhajans, shyamasangeet, agamanis and kirtans. He also composed large number of songs on invocation to Lord Shiva, Goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati and on the theme of love of Radha and Krishna.[4]

Nazrul was an exponent of humanism.[24] Although a Muslim, he named his sons with both Hindu and Muslim names: Krishna Mohammad, Arindam Khaled(bulbul), Kazi Sabyasachi and Kazi Aniruddha.[25]

Do these bangladeshis come from a parallel universe or what? :hitwall:

Maybe because of this:

Bengalee Muslims generally use Arabic names because of their ancestral ties with the Arabs through Arakan. In recent times Persian or Turkish names came into use. But quite recently totally Bengali names came into use. Nazrul's sons bear Bengalee names perhaps because he was a poet and philosopher. These are not Hindu names one would find in Rig Veda. Bengalee Hindu names must end with titles like Chakravorty, Ganguly, Das,Dutta, Sen,Pal,etc.

There was no historical facts that Tagore hated Muslim. But he certainly did hate Muslim fanatics, same goes for Hinud fanatics. He was spritual not religious and followed Bhramo religion which is different than Hinduism.

Tagore was a Bengali nationalist and did oppose any split of Bengal. He wrote poems about Sylhet as it was not part of Bengal that time. I forgot the name of the poem.

Tagore is not above criticism but he is in a class by himself. Those calling him communal, religious bigot never bother to take a good look at his writings. I can't say that I ever noticed him actively speaking for or against Muslims. Man had his living in East Bengal, he certainly is going to consider that. He was and is probably the greatest writer in the history of mankind but he wasn't saint. He was born with the limitations of a mortal man.

Those that want to get a good understanding of his political views, read “Ghare Baire” (The Home And The World)

He was and is probably the greatest writer in the history of mankind

Mankind!!!! I urge you rethink about what you just said. You are not a deep thinker for sure. Please re consider your consideration.

Well, I think Krishna was a Hindu god.
