Average Pakistani wealthier than Indian and twice wealthier than a Bangladeshi : Credit suisse

This is middle class housing in Pakistan, not the elitist or upper class. Bahria town Lahore.

This is i guess again middle to upper middle, Bahria town. House ownership, also counts in the wealth, not just per capita income, also other assets like farm land, gold, real estate and a host of other things also counts...

No surprises here. The GDP figures that you see so often being quoted are what? They are the recorded size of a economy divided by population. The operative word being 'recorded'. Pakistan has one of largest unrecorded economies in the world. Therefore what you see with the official figures are incorrect. It's like a iceberg. You only see what's above the water.

This can best illustrated by using the iceberg analogy - below.

2n65ft5.jpg

Just because you don't register the mass of the iceberg below the waterline does not mean it does not exist. It is there. It is real. This phenomenon exists in every country. All countries including for example United Kingdom has shadow economy. However what is significant about Pakistan is the size, the proportion, which is significantly larger than other countries like India for example. The result is the true GDP for Pakistan is far higher.

You might ask does it matter? Yes, it does because it feeds real people, with real housing. That is why Pakistan does not have millions of destitute sleeping on pavements, or millions pulling rickshaws like animals just to eke a miserable living. Any visitor can see that in Pakistan in particular when they visit both countries. Don't get me wrong I thing Pakistan also has 'Ganga hungry' in certain districts in Sindh for example. However the scale in India is staggering. Entire swathes of some states are 'Ganga hungry'.

That said and before Pakistani's expand their chests some sobering up is in order. The only and I repeat the only reason Pakistan has fared better despite India shining with it's industries is simple. Pakistan has mass exported workers abroad. Just look at the size of Pakistani diaspora in the West. All those ex pat Pakistani's who number less then Indians in absolute numbers but if you take into account the relative populations far greater percentage of Pakistani's are working abroad.

The result of this is huge direct remittances which are the largest industry in Pakistan. I believe the recorded figure exceeed $20 billion last year. Don't forget this is net 'profit' to Pakistan. Can somebody tell me what other industry even comes close to making that amount? Non.

Then you have the remittances transeferred by unofficial means. You also must include the trickle effects of diaspora. Like we all use airlines, custom duties, airports, taxis and go build houses in Pakistan or give poor relatives financial support. The aggregate effect of this on Pakistan economy is probably greater than TATA, Birla, Reliance group in India combined. There could be 10 employed directly or indirectly for every foreign ex-pat/worker inside Pakistan.

However Pakistan can't keep on living off this manpower export industry forever. Population in Pakistan is increasing and those regions which used to absob Pakistan migrants are tightening borders. This gravy train can't go on forever.

*In short India's garbage is starving away, shitting in the open streets while their equivalent in Pakistan have migrated to Europe, America or have jobs in Middle East. This might explain why India has good reputation because it's garbage is hidden away in the Ganga swamps whereas Pakistani garbage is sat in Luton or Middle East and on show to the world.

Best comment.

Right now, I am earning in Dirhams in a government job and still finding it hard to pay monthly installments of one Bahria town plot and some of my relatives who are small businessmen in Pakistan are also paying same installments.

I think people in Pakistan don't disclose their income. But in some years you see them buying expensive properties on cash. I always wondered why. Now I know the reason, it's because of unrecorded economy.

of I found out the price myself ..

http://www.zameen.com/Plots/Lahore_Bahria_Town-509-1.html

pic 1 .. it's a flat , 1,112 sq feet 35 lakhs, bahria town lhr, ... in delhi it will be 90 lakhs (INR) = almost 1.25 crore PNR
pic 2.... 1,125 sq feet house ... rs 95 lakhs lol .... in delhi it will be more than 3 cores (INR) and much costlier in Mumbai ..

tum log bohot piche ho ...

stop giving the pictures tell us the cost and area

The house here will cost you about, 1.5 o 1.75 crore, its is in Bahria town, Lahore, similar housing in Rawalpindi, many areas, in Lahore different phases and different price relating to different size of the homes.

Also similar housing near Karachi. My point is people here tend to live in better appointed homes on average, compared to Indians again talking of 'on an average' here. This has been said so many times foreigners visiting India and then Pakistan...no bragging or boasting here.

Higher prices actually means very few people can afford it, people in high income group, this is the reason of per capita housing is very bad in India...hence the better average wealth for Pakistani people.

i found the price none is reaching crore the pics you showed are all below 1 crore except for the rawal pindi one , which is very big and just 1.26 crore PNR .. you won't get that big house just for 1.25 crore PNR in delhi or mumbai ..

atleast 6-7 crore is the starting for that kind of posh area.

i picked the prices for bahria and all from here .. more over if we cut 1% from them as dealer comission it will also come down .. secondly .. I personally know few dealers so I know the land prices in Bahria or central Lahore...

No.. the market in India is very vast.. you can get 5 Marla house in just for Rs. 95 lakhs(PNR) near Delhi ..The only reason people don't buy it.. because most believe in buying shop with a house.. and in delhi or metropolitan brands have taken over. And shops in central, you forget it.. not less than 600 -700 crore (INr)

.
This is a pretty normal housing colony in Lahore, not an elitist community again people can afford such well appointed homes in Pakistan...

Even the $20 billion remittance is just the ones sent thru official channels, add to that what people send thru friends and families when they visit back home. Most laborer class in middle east dont use banks but people to send money to their families
