Australian Defence Minister says no to Pakistan

Again, Aussies are a primary economy. They are exporting raw materials and value addition within the economy is not competitive so value added goods are imported. This anyway is leading to a services led economy being developed and that is not the safest thing to bank up on. The focus in Australia is to develop technology so that a competency can be derived in the otherwise - rapidly turning - generic market. So there are things to read between the lines there too.

Yes, Australian manufacturing is under pressure and we are moving towards a more service-oriented economy. Which makes the claim for Indian markets all the more incongruous. India wants Australian minerals, not services. It is itself a service-exporter; it does not imports services. And there is already no shortage of buyers for Australian raw material, including India -- even before the uranium sales.

Of course the world will always try to ensure that there is no polarization of wealth. If India was ahead, there would be attempts to ensure that the wealth is shared with the nations that India is doing business with. But that does not in any way means that the "containment" of the type that you are talking about would have been executed. It is conjecture and nothing factual points in that direction.

If you don't accept that America is engaged in China containment, then we can let the matter drop. There have been any number of policy papers, not to mention explicit statements, to that effect from American administration officials.

LoL, can you name just one. I mean just one leg of the relationship where it is prudent for Pakistan to accept China's brotherly love which could yield higher ROI than any other viable alternative available in the long term?

I mean non-Indian centric :)

China is helping Pakistan with civilian nuclear technology which is denied by the West.

.
BUT Pakistan don't need any uranium import, and even if they required (which i don't think so), pakistan has better and close fellows who will happily export uranium to Pakistan. That's looks pretty stupid from Aus side to say the NO for something which haven't been asked from them.

PK ambassador to AUS asked. Aus refused.

. .
Well that's what you think. As I said your upbringing in your native country seems to be the only reason for me.;)

Look bro, if you got e-groped by an Indian, it was surely not me. I am sorry for what you must be feeling though. May be you are writing to the wrong person. :)

.
Hey mavrick its not owr policy as to what are you saying but anyhow you will denay it & i might get an infaraction if i answer you in your language so freind enjoy the goodies till they are there:azn::tup:

Have you not tried tooth and nail to prevent the sale to Pakistan? You mean you can deny that??? Well, you are an Indian, you can deny anything!

.
Sure.. But the decision to not sell Uranium to Pakistan is a decision of today, and the reasons to that is what we were discussing. The ideological thought process of Good terrorist and bad terrorist is kind of off topic here

But that's precisely what international politics is all about, besides didn't the Talibaan and Pakistan get some of the best things from the world when the Russians were bad guys? Even today you take out our corrupt, slave leadership and we rise up above India in any scenario. Just 2 decisions taken a week back have buckled international community, imagine what we can do with honest, patriotic leadership!

I am hopeful, time will change, it always does.

Check again, it isn't they ask for uranium, it's to check why double faces for two subcontinent states?

Also, Pakistan already have 1000s of uranium reserves. We don't need any uranium (atleast) for import. You can check how Pakistan manage to double their nuclear capabilities in just a year or so. And also follow US concerns over pakistan fast uranium enrichment plants.

.
Looks like conjecture to me.. And coming from a country which has leased out its military bases to USA and allows USA to drone attack its territory at will is what I really call duplicity.. No ?? :)

I am not denying that India is helping Vietnam for its own reasons (to do with China) but can you deny that the timing of the actions also serves to signal the US that India is on board with the China containment program?

The Indo-U.S. relationship is not being directed against China in a vacuum. The Chinese have for the last few years taken some sharp positions on the border dispute & in our view, attempted to browbeat us.

That has been my contention all along. That there is rising nationalism in all countries, including China and India, and it will be a tough call to temper that with a peaceful rise. Will either country's ego get the better of their pragmatism, especially with the US adding fuel to the fire?

I'm sure he didn't ask nice :), I mean if India asked us nice, we would dump all our highly enriched uranium all over India! (kidding ofcourse)

.
The PK ambassador to Aus asked for Uranium knowing well that they are not going to sell it to PK, In diplomatic circles this is what is called scoring a point, PK wanted to prove a point that they are being discriminated against by Aus knowing very well that though the sale won't happen per se but will make the Aussies a bit hot under the collar regarding the discrimination against Pk being a muslim country and a non signatory.:rofl: good job PK.

.
Who will sale uranium to a country which is considered epicenter of terrorism in the world ? Aussies took all the right decisions so far .

if you dont need and already have then why asking them??just for matching with india or poking nose every where:lol:

About the first part , thats the main point - times chancge so does everything else ps. a smart person is who changes with it ?and i think u answered your on question in the last part

Yep it was, its called the ALP annual convention. It happens as the name suggests every years. The exportation of uranium was years in the making with ground work done by the previous government. This was not even the most prominent topic of the debate, that went to gay marriage as you might have read in other posts

Gillard's statement preceded the conference and was timed for Obama's visit. The debate pro- and anti-sale has been going on for ages and nothing substantial has changed. All the old arguments on both sides remain exactly the same.

The only thing that changed was a concerted US push to reassert American dominance in the region with an explicit focus on China. Even Gillard the dullard let slip through the real reason by mentioning China in making her case for India.
